Reasons for low glucose levels

Common Questions and Answers about Reasons for low glucose levels

glucose

Avatar f tn The most common cause of small fibre peripheral neuropathy listed is diabetes or glucose intolerance. I have permanent nerve damage from B12 deficiency and insulin resistance/impaired glucose tolerance. I've never had abnormal fasting glucose levels but my glucose went too high however after I drank a glass of glucose (2 hour oral glucose tolerance test - OGTT) which showed I had impaired glucose tolerance.
Avatar n tn Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels. However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels.
863754 tn?1239144755 My aunt is in the hospital, as I type this, fighting to stay alive. After speaking with the doctors about her condition, I've discovered that they have absolutely no idea why she's dying. I'm posting here in the hopes of saving her life. For some reason, her blood glucose levels won't stabilize. They'll give her a shot of glucose to get her levels up, but in the matter of a few hours, it's back down to around 50 or 60 and they have to give her another shot.
Avatar m tn 140 is the American measure.
Avatar f tn I would go off by what they say. And I would inform them it is that low.. are you on any medicine for blood sugar?
Avatar f tn There are a lot of reasons for memory loss but that includes stress, not enough sleep, too low or high blood glucose levels and to a lesser extent low magnesium. Also the diabetes drug metformin is known to cause low vitamin B12 levels. Low levels of B12 also cause memory loss, fatigue and many other health problems.
Avatar n tn It may be a good idea for your boyfriend to wake up and test his glucose levels. If his sugar levels are too high or too low, a coppery odor may be present in his sweat, and this may be the root of the problem. If this be the case, he needs to correct the glucose problem, which is dangerous to his health. If this is the odor problem, normalizing his glucose levels will stop the odor.
910435 tn?1296748610 "I had a blood test done and it shows my glucose level to be low at 68 (range 80-110)." Are we to assume this result was after 8-10 hours of fasting? And by the way, normal fasting blood glucose ranges are 70-99 mg/dl. A level of 110 mg/dl is considered prediabetes. "Is it normal for your glucose levels to be low at certain times during the day,1.e., if you haven't eaten for a couple of hours, etc?
Avatar n tn Has anyone mentioned that you might be borderline diabetic? With you hemoglobin A1c at 6.1/6.2 and a blood glucose at 108 (assuming this was fasting) - that's the first thing that comes to my mind.... Another thing that strikes me with the "tired, no energy" is pernicious anemia - vitamin B12 deficiency...........
Avatar n tn _i am worried about all the conditions i am developing i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 years ago, my levels of glucose are always up & down i also take some (anti depressants) (trozadone & prozac) along with my glyburide & glipizide) i just had a blood test done and i was diagnosed with Low T @ 200 is this the reason why my penis gets soft while am doing sex w/o ejaculating or my sudden change on 1 minute sex activity .?
Avatar n tn After meals, glucose levels up to 140-something are considered normal. Your little one was probably crying so hard when his glucose levels were low because he felt bad... when glucose levels drop below about 70, we feel pretty awful. The high reading over 200 certainly is way above where the normal level should be, so I agree that he should be checked by a pediatrician.
Avatar m tn Repeat dosage ONLY if necessary and recheck your levels. If your levels remain unchanged or low do not take anymore tablets, instead go to ER for proper care. Ask to have your thyroid [TSH, T3 & T4] and pancreas insulin production tested too.
Avatar f tn As you are experiencing loss of breath and you have the shakes too, it may be that your iron levels are low. When the blood sugars fall quite low this too can make you feel shaky. Make an appointment to see your doctor so that he can run some blood tests and try and find out if there is an underlying medical problem that needs attention. Let me know how you get on.
250084 tn?1303307435 No, that's not what I was saying. I was saying that ribavirin doesn't severely impact the blood glucose levels that you'd get with a finger stick testing or when you get fasting glucose levels at the lab. I think finger stick testing when done with an accurate meter are sufficiently accurate and reliable. Hemolytic anemia does, however, impact HbA1c levels so those readings can be, and often are, inaccurately low.
Avatar f tn jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar f tn My levels bounce all over the scale (from as low as 60 to as high as 190+). Most of my fasting glucose levels run between 100-120. After I had done this for about a month, I presented it to my doctor's nurse practitioner, who agreed to send me for a glucose tolerance test. Results came back normal, with hemoglobin A1C at 5.6 (high normal).
Avatar n tn I am a long-time type 1 diabetic (36 years on insulin) without complications. I don't think that it makes any difference whether your child eats regular meals or variable meals with snacks as long as you know how to count the carbohydrates and adjust insulin accordingly.
Avatar f tn N if it gets too low than eat one of those just always keep something around in case it does get low BC u be needing that sugar. Just look on the packages of how much sugar is in the food u eat. U will get a handle on it. I do know some juices u got to watch out for. U can ask ur primary doctor about it BC they usually can help u more with it.
Avatar n tn I have been newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago. My blood sugar during the day has gone down into the normal range of 80-120. When I wake up in the morning, my blood sugar is raised to generally about 170. I am eating the recommended diet, no sugar,no pasta, rice or bread low carbs, but I don't understand why if during the day I am in the normal range, why it would rise at night?
Avatar n tn have you tested your glucose levels when these symptoms hit you? You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
233382 tn?1193658141 The inability to control his muscles was probably due to the very low glucose levels. That kind of temporary symptom is very common with severe hypoglycemia. He should absolutely always have some sports drink such as Gatorade with him. If he notices any kind of loss of muscle control, loss of coordination or the knee problem you write about, he should test his glucose first of all, for the problem is probably hypoglycemia.
