Common Questions and Answers about Reasons for delayed period other than pregnancy

period

Avatar f tn My period is nearly two weeks late. I took two pregnancy tests on July 20th. Both came out negative. I have not gained or lost a lot of weight recently. I have also been a lot more stressed than this, and still had a regular menstrual cycle. If it makes any difference, I just started have sex in early July, but all protected. Condoms were checked before, even during, and after to make sure they didn't break. What else could cause my period to be so late, or miss it altogether?
Avatar f tn When your period is delayed the first thought is always the chance of pregnancy if you have had unprotected sex but there are also other reasons your period is delayed such as stress, hormonal changes etc. I think you should take a preg test, if its negative maybe wait a week to see if your period comes as you may just be having a longer than normal cycle. If it still hasn't arrived its probably a good idea to see your doctor for a blood test.
Avatar n tn Hello.
Avatar n tn So did you get your period, but 6 weeks late? If so, there could be many reasons for that. Sometimes ovulation is delayed and when that happens, your period will be delayed too. It could be because of stress, too much exercise...or you could have been pregnant and had an early miscarriage (but if it was a miscarriage, I think you would have known). There are a number of other reasons too why ovulation is delayed sometimes. Are your cycles normally regular?
Avatar f tn Hi there, Gynaecosid is used for Amenorrhea, when your period is absent for other reasons than pregnancy. Though one week after periods and 1 week before periods is considered as sage period for sex there are chances of pregnancy. You should have ruled out pregnancy before taking gynecosid.Since you have not had your periods it is best to get evaluated. Delayed periods can be due to hormonal imbalances, stress, ovulation disorders etc.Consult a doctor. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar m tn Hello, Apart from pregnancy, there are many other reasons for a delayed period. The other causes are hormonal imbalance like in PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome), stress, obesity, malnutrition, anemia, hypothyroidism, illness, etc. The only way to know whether you are pregnant is to get a pregnancy test done. You can do a home pregnancy test by using a pregnancy kit easily available at chemists. Also, it is suggested that you see a gynecologist who will examine you.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy, stress, dietary changes, a lot of exercise, illness, and hormonal issues can all cause a delayed or missed period. Reasons for a delayed period are certainly not limited to these, though. To determine the exact cause if pregnancy is not a possibility and you are still waiting for this missed period, you may consider going to the doctor to get some tests done.
Avatar f tn Hello, Delayed or missed period is known as amenorrhea. Apart from pregnancy, there are many other reasons for a delayed period. The other causes are hormonal imbalance like in PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome), stress, obesity, malnutrition, anemia, hypothyroidism, illness, etc. Consult a gynecologist and get these causes ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn I'M 20 YEARS OLD AND MY PERIOD IS DELAYED FOR 11 DAYS INCLUDING NOW... WHAT CAUSES IT TO BE DELAYED THAT LONG? EVERY MONTH OF MY PERIOD.. I WAS ALWAYS DELAYED IN 3 DAYS.. LAST FEBRUARY 2012.. MY PERIOD APPEARS ON 29TH DAY...AND ON MARCH.. I WAS EXPECTING IT ON 31ST OR APRIL 1.. BUT it didn't came.. and UP TO NOW.. I'M DELAYED FOR ALMOST 11 DAYS.. I'M EXPERIENCING THIS VAGINAL DISCHARGE UP TO NOW BUT NO BLOOD AT ALL...
Avatar f tn Gynecological conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and uterine cysts or polyps, can also bring about alteration in menstrual cycle. However, pregnancy is still the most common cause of delayed or missed period. So if there is a history of any unprotected intercourse then pregnancy should be ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn The slow thyroid throws off hormones and then periods cease or are infrequent. Other reasons for not having a period exist as well. Best to see your doctor to discuss why you aren't menstruating.
Avatar n tn blood work doesn't lie. if if came back negative it could be something else going on. Stress is a pretty common factor when you are late.
Avatar f tn The ONLY way to get pregnant is if a penis enters your vagina and sperm comes out. Or if he pulls out and some of the sperm gets on the opening of your vagina it can swim up and meet an egg if and ONLY if you are ovulating. Please before you do anything sexual take a sex education class. And if I am coming off as rude I am sorry.
Avatar n tn Hello, First of all, I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests. Apart from pregnancy, there are many other reasons for a delayed period. The other causes are hormonal imbalance like due to birth control pills, PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome), stress, obesity, malnutrition, anemia, hypothyroidism, illness, etc. If pregnancy is ruled out then these causes should be evaluated.
Avatar f tn Irrespective of whether you are not yet ready to get pregnant; if you don't take precaution then there's every chance it could happen. The only way to know for certain is to take a test, or you could wait 9 months and see if you have a kid. There are other reasons that your period may be delayed, so you need to rule out pregnancy for starters. I'm not sure how long you have been with your partner, so try to eliminate reasons why your period hasn't arrived.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have missed my period for 4 months now, (No spotting, Nothing). I have taken urine and blood pregnancy tests recently and both are negative. My breasts are swollen, and I get headaches. I have seen my doctor 3 times and she tells me to wait for a period because 'sometimes it just happens'. I feel there's something wrong with me. Is this normal? Can someone please offer some advice or something, It's stressing me out.
Avatar f tn Agree with the other poster. A penis must go inside the vagina for pregnancy. This would not lead to pregnancy. But buy some condoms for next time in case you get more carried away.
Avatar f tn s my first time to have almost 100days delayed now. I had unprotected sex More than 2 weeks ago but u I did 4x pregnancy test all negative even no faint color on supposed 2 lines to be considered as pregnant. I had maybe 3x only nauseous within this time. My food pattern didn't changed or any other pregnancy symptoms though I have hot feelings especially in the night during my work. I gained weight as well a lot though no food cravings at all.

821963 tn?1245925448 i hav done home pregnancy test twice in two weeks , the result is negative . now what should i do , what can be the other reasons for a late period ??
Avatar n tn This happens to lots of women though--- they have an extremely long cycle out of the blue. Reasons for a late period include illness, weight gain or loss, stress, changes in routines, the holidays, new exercise regimes, etc. If you have trouble with your thyroid, this is a common cause of long cycles. So, I'd see if you get your period soon and if not, then go ahead and see your doctor. I had periods every three to four months for about a year and a half due to a slow thyroid.
Avatar n tn There are many reasons that Your period could be delayed one reason could be pregnancy, another could be stress there are few You could re test if you are still worried and your period does not come as some people do not show in a urine test until much later or you should go to your doctor for a blood test
1100851 tn?1345729474 Hi, You need to rule out a pregnancy if there is the slightest doubt. There are many other reasons for delayed periods like - anaemia, unexplained or sudden weight gain or weight loss, hypothyroidism, and polycystic disease of the ovary and stress. But you will need to get investigated. A scan may be done. Consult your Doctor. Take care & good luck.
