Avatar n tn In adition, as time passes and your have multipl,e low blood sugars, the brain is dedprived of oxygen during the low glucose episode and slowly, permanent damage to the brain can result. I agree with some of the other comments that you should be testing your blood sugar both before you eat and after (even on an hourly basis to begin with).

508203 tn?1233234804 I had my Glucose Tolerance Test on the weekend (saturday) and got very sick afterwards. It is now a couple of days later and I am still feeling sick and fatigued, I feel just awful. I got my results back and it was all normal!! My doctor told me the test shouldn't have made me feel like this, but the hospital said that it can be a normal reaction (although it should be out of your system in 24 hours.
Avatar f tn If not, then might be a glucose thing, those items are high in pure sugar, and might be a diabetic sort of thing where the sugar processing part of the body isn't working right. Then some people develop allergies as they get older, stuff they could eat before becomes an allergy thing. Or could be they trigger too much acid output in your tummy. Sorry I cannot know for sure, but maybe my ideas will steer you to the right doc to find out what's wrong.
Avatar f tn Some types of sensory neuropathies occur and progress very slowly, others sort of wax and wane (with flare-ups) and some are progressive. One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes, and sometimes only glucose intolerances, or abnormal rises in blood sugar after a glucose load can be the only indication (this is called a oral glucose tolerance test.
Avatar f tn t drinking water like I should have been and I know Biotin is water-soluble and since I have been out of school for the summer I am not as active. I know someone may say that water and lack of activity may be the cause, but they have never ever been before. Does anyone think that withdrawal from that much Biotin could be the cause of my anxiety because there is no other link between the anxiety I had three years ago and what is happening now?
Avatar m tn Could it be that doing a low carb diet, made your body get the energy from the proteins and fats, and since the body didn´t get the energy from glucose, the little carbs you ate, kept on circulating in your blood? and released through urine?
Avatar f tn In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn It is based on Rothera’s reaction principle and on the development of colors, ranging from buff-pink for a negative reading to purple when acetoacetate reacts with nitropruside. It also detects acetone but not beta-hydroxybutyrate. Interference can be produced by the use of expired reagents (degradation with exposure to moisture in air). The test only measures acetoacetate but no other ketone bodies such as beta-hydroxybutyric acid (Rebound Ketosis).
383382 tn?1323487391 She will record the time and return to collect blood and urine samples at 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours for a total of 5 blood and urine samples. You will not be able to eat or drink anything except for water throughout the duration of the test. You should be encouraged to drink water, however, because frequent urine samples will be needed Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn (The experiment was to prove the relationship between glucose levels and size of baby.) He is now a young adult and is smart and healthy in every way. And huge. So no damage was done, in spite of the frequency of my traumas during that time. In any event, I happen to agree that your baby is just fine. Your wife should probably try to make sure she tests every 2-3 hours just to catch glucose lows when they are happening while tightly controlled.
Avatar n tn I compensate by testing a couple of hours after my first sip of coffee and compensating with a tiny bit of insulin if glucose levels are rising. I believe that in my case, my body starts producing adrenalin when the caffeine kicks in. And adrenalin can make sugars rise. So I suspect that this effect is different for different people. Just check often while drinking coffee so you can catch it and compensate if glucose levels rise.
Avatar n tn re having, drink enough pure water (not too much) and live a healthy life. Excercise daily and take a moderate amount of supplements. And do some detox once in a while.
Avatar m tn It can also be due to kidney stone. The treatment is usually by antibiotics, and increasing your intake of water. Do discuss this with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. Avatar f tn I had to fast too, I did the 3 hour one, and by time the 3 hours were up, I was about to pass out! Because of all the sugar the glucose has and the insulin working to get rid of it! Luckily I passed with perfect numbers!
6810737 tn?1385004768 She goes to the vet twice a week to have dextrose with vitamins and potassium put her on her. We put sugar in her water to make sure her glucose level doesn't go down. I wake up at past midnight to feed her. But she's still having seizures. Does anyone have a shih tzu that experiences this? Do you have suggestions on how to cure this? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Some cancers, like lymphoma, hormone disorders like carcinoid syndrome and hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) and some neurologic conditions like strokes, autonomic neuropathy, and post-traumatic syringomyelia can also cause night sweats. Medications like aspirin, acetaminophen, niacin, tamoxifen, Viagra and antidepressants are often linked to night sweats. Avatar n tn The night before, I ate an apple and steak and the next day all I had to eat was a couple of crackers and water. The entire day I was urinating constantly and was extremely thirsty, but when they took my blood sugar I believe it was at 67. When I had the GTT 7 months ago, I was a few points away from being a Type 2 diabetic, and I'm pretty sure I suffered from low blood sugar during the test as well.
Avatar n tn It is usual to have such an initial reaction to metformin. Suggest you start off with just 1/2 or 1/4 tablet per day and then slowly increase to the recommended dose based on the resolution of your symptoms. If this doesn't work, you can ask your dr for slow release version. If your urine glucose is HI then you blood glucose must be way higher. if the meds don't bring your sugar down fairly quickly please ask your dr about insulin!
Avatar n tn Your kids will probably be very healthy and normal. Most of us do have very normal and healthy pregnancies, and for most of us, we have better control than ever before during this time because we so want to make sure everything is right. So you are going to develop some good habits that might actually protect you for the rest of your life. My two kids are grown and both are healthy, and I am complication-free as a grandmother now. I throw that in to encourage you.

Avatar f tn Hi girls. So I am a little worried this morning because I woke up feeling extremely shaky and light headed. And also EXTREMELY tired and my heart feels like it's working rather hard. Now, exhaustion is not new in pregnancy, but mine has certainly been severe. I sleep 10 hours a night and an average of 2-4 during the day, sometimes more.
Avatar f tn I had a glucose test 3 weeks ago and it was in the normal range, never had a history of high levels. I woke up this morning with a boil on my inner thigh and my sister said it could be a symptom of diabetes. I also had a cbc that was normal. Is she correct? Could I go from normal glucose level to diabetic level so quickly? I am a bit nervous now. Thanks in advance!
