Ranitidine vs pepcid

Common Questions and Answers about Ranitidine vs pepcid

zantac

Avatar m tn In order to treat Acid Reflux/GERD I have been taking Ranitidine/Zantac per doctors advice. I started developing various side effects several months ago. To verify the side effects were caused by the ranitidine I would stop for a few weeks and use TUMS instead. I repeated this cycle several times. The symptoms would go away each time I was off the ranitidine for a week or so.
Avatar n tn Many doctors do require their patients to go off H2 blockers (a specific type of antihistamine. H2 blockers inclue Zantac (ranitidine) and Pepcid. I cannot recall the chemical in Pepcid at the moment. Another questionable med is Elavil (amitriptyline). It is an antidepressant but has some antihistamine qualities. Every doctor is different on these meds. Many don't want to cause issues with going off of these meds.
Avatar f tn Tums or pepcid works best for me.
Avatar m tn Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Prop your self up and try pepcid once in the morn and once a night I have taken this my whole pregnacy and it helps a ton
Avatar m tn You can layer different types of reflex meds. I take Dexilant 60mg mid afternoon and ranitidine (Zantac - and H2 blocker like Pepcid) at bedtime. I have severe asthma and difficult reflux as well. The reflux exacerbates the asthma so it must be very well controlled. I will also take a calcium-magnesium product like Rolaids for flares or when my diet has not been the best for reflux. I recently doubled my probiotic.
Avatar m tn I went to the ER that weekend and the doctor gave me Pepcid because he thought I had Gastritis. It helped a bit but my abdominal pain, bloating, heartburn, food feeling stuck at night, and belching continued. Two days I went back because when I went to bed I had trouble breathing the doctor gave me gastrointestinal cocktail and my abdomen felt cured but it was only temporary. She also told me to take tums. My gp called me and I went three weeks ago. I did the blood, stool and urine test.
Avatar f tn ve suffered with acid reflux and heartburn through out my whole pregnancy.. i am 39+3 ...tums did nothing for me. My dr. Said i could take zantac or Ranitidine 150mg. I take one in the morning and another at night.
Avatar f tn I'm on Nexium, 20 mg a day, and have been for 5 years. Within the last six months they diagnosed me with PVCs, 8500 a day on average, when I never had them before. Naturally I'd like to get rid of the scary things. But how can you just go off Prilosec or Prevacid without getting acid rebound? I'd like to get off it because too little stomach acid can cause anemia, osteoporosis, and B12 deficiency. PPIs have been implicated in all of these.
1916673 tn?1420233270 Hi Tony, The only anti-nausea med that Oliver has been taking since his release from the pet clinic on April 9th, is Pepcid AC. Dr. Schultz recommended this because he vomited once while he was hospitalized. I give it to him every morning. Because of his size 3.7 lbs he is given 1/4 of the pill. So far he has not vomited. I'm crossing my fingers and Oliver is crossing his paws that his up coming blood test on 6/21 show that all is normal.
Avatar f tn My Dr. prescribed me Pepcid because my heartburn is so severe It is causing extreme nausea. It was so bad I thought I had the stomach flu. Anyhow the only one the store had was the maximum strength. The Pharmacist said it was ok. Anyone else take this?
Avatar f tn Pepcid ac works very good and fast!
338416 tn?1420045702 Since Copaxone is a copolymer, histamine H1-receptor antagonist may not work well. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists, like cimetidine (Tagamet) or ranitidine (Zantac) and famotidine (Pepcid) might actually work better. I know, it sounds goofy, but the histamine response causes the acid pumps in the stomach to turn on. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists are becoming pretty common in the treatment of allergic reactions not controlled by typical antihistamines.
Avatar f tn I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with 60 days left to go (due April 9th) my heartburn is really really bad. i have tried everything my dr has suggested and everything ive read nothing is working... like for example sitting up higher when sleeping eating smaller meals nothing an hr before bed. Nexium doesn't work my dr has me taking pepcid in the morning and at night with tums. Milk doesn't help water all day long ... The list is really endless...
7923170 tn?1412999504 I have really bad heartburn and after taking two tums I drink room temperature water and it seems to help after a bit. Hope that helps!
Avatar n tn I am suffering from a form of reflux which I am told is caused by a nerve believed to be in my stomach, I can only drink water as anything else triggers more acid.I take 300mg ranitidine and 20 mg nortriptyline the former for acid the the nortriptyline to try and numb the nerve.I was discharged from the hospital in 2004 and have carried on with this problem which no one else seems to know anything about.
Avatar n tn Some times people require both a proton pump inhibitor ( PPI - like Aciphex) and an H2 blocker (Zantec, Pepcid...) taken at strategic times during the day to really control their reflux. For example I take Dexilant (PPI) around 2 PM and ranitidine (generic Zantec at bed time). I initially started taking Dexilant in the morning, but was having break through symptoms in the late after noon, so my dr told me to take it in the early afternoon.
Avatar f tn ve been paranoid ever since I learned that Ranitidine had been recalled due to a link to cancer. Is a 2 month dose of Ranitidine something to worry about?
