Three to four years ago, my pediatric had prescribed me 300 mg Ranitidine for heart burn. A few months later, a urgent care physician had prescribed me the same medicine. In total, I've taken two bottles of Ranitidine (approx 2 months worth of tablets).
I've been paranoid ever since I learned that Ranitidine had been recalled due to a link to cancer. Is a 2 month dose of Ranitidine something to worry about?
I have just been reading all the comments about itching and MS ( I was diagnosed in 2004) Had no idea that itching was a problem with MS. I have been itching intensly for about 5 days. But my itching is NOT localized as most of the comments suggest, but it is all over. Have also had raised red spots, but not until I start scratching. Like the scratching produces the red spots (what I think of as hives) Have been to the dr. twice. 1st time steriod shot. 2 days later not any better and dr.
Now i am doubtful that i am pregnant as i removed my copper T recently. I am under treatment for stomach inflammation. i am taking ranitidine 150 twice daily for the last 2 months and buscopan when i have stomach pain. i take antacid when have heartburn if i happen to eat anything which is not suitable for my present stomach condition. pls tell me, is it safe to take those medicines if i am pregnant? or do i have to abort if i am pregnant? i am very much worried....thanks in advance.
A couple years ago he also put me on 20 mg Omeprazole to take once a day for 14 days, after which he said I could start taking the Ranitidine again if i still had the heartburn.
Back in April I noticed that the lower part of my buttocks and the inner thighs were itching. I developed red bumps that have remained there for now almost 4 months. The bumps are red and are rather large... they are raised from the skin, more like hives - they are not smooth and are rather bumpy. They itch specially at night. At times while I apply some cortisone paired up with antihistamines, they will calm down and go dormant... but only to come back again on the same spots.
Some studies have linked EBV with Hashimoto's, but there's nothing conclusive. Some doctors have felt that Fibromyalgia is, basically, un or under-treated hypothyroidism, since Fibro and hypothyroidism share many symptoms and many/most of the symptoms go away if the patient is treated adequately with thyroid hormones.
Getting terrible indigestion for most of the day, everyday and its driving me insane. I burp hugely one after the other and it makes me feel quite ill. Anyone got any tips?
To verify the side effects were caused by the ranitidine I would stop for a few weeks and use TUMS instead. I repeated this cycle several times. The symptoms would go away each time I was off the ranitidine for a week or so. I also noticed when taking TUMS that I only need to take less than one tablet for it to be effective (say about 500 mg /day. Occasionally 750mg). One question I have is would it be better to only take Tums instead - even if I need to use ~500mg each day?
Hi I have had severe Hives for 2 mos. This is the worse outbreak I've ever had, and my last case of Hives was 9 yrs ago. I was in the ER 2x this past month, put on IV steroids, antihistamines & Ranitidine. I had extensive blood work done for a multitude of alleries- all negative, Lupus, Lympoma, Lymes disease, CAT scan, all negative. I've done 2 rounds of Presnisone (which helped greatly), but 2 days after the last Prednisone pill- boom the hives came back bad.
The next day I went back to the doctor and she said the x Ray showed I had lots of stool and prescribed Miralax and ranitidine because she thought the abdominal pain was caused by acid. I took Miralax for two weeks and it stopped the bloating I had a follow up on April 7th. Before the follow up I went on that Monday because I had blood in my stool the emergency Doctor of the clinic said it was an anal fissure and increased the miralax to three caps.
Well Nexium is a Proton Pump Inhibitor and Ranitidine is a H2- receptor antagonist, which means they doe the same job but at different parts of the process. There is no huge risks, but why spend money on both drugs when the Dr could simply increase the dose of one?
ve now progressed to difficulty swallowing and for the first time this morning, fairly severe heart burn that I took some gaviscon for. Can ranitidine stop working? Should I try something else?
Any advice would be helpful... it's been 5 weeks of misery and it keeps me pretty anxious (I'm not necessarily miserable, just wondering when it will all end) and frustrated to the point that I'm on the verge of tears at times.
Thank you so much for responding. Yes I do take suppressive therapy, but at times I do forget to take the pills which I know is a problem. I have some hormonal issues when I have my monthly period as well, which I know contributes to the EM. I went to the doctor today and had a well woman check up and they suggested I also go to a dermatologist. They gave me a script for Valtrex, not the generic form, to see if that may make a difference. I certainly hope so.
The pepcid ac duel action chewables (expensive but are great!) are the best for me with 150-300mg of ranitidine a day if I'm not watching my diet. I'm convinced most people get heart burn like me because of a sensitivity or allergy to gluten. People just won't commit to not eating wheat barley and rye flour and all the foods that contain it...yes, flour tortillas, bread, beer, pizza crust,pancakes and most everything else that's bad for you.
Anti-histaminic and/or Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist (may be added if not controlled by antihistamines) will help to relieve the symptoms. You can go for the long term therapy; side effects will not be matter of concern except for mild sedation and sometimes headache. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist for more info. Please help. I’m on ranitidine 300 2x’s day. This has been months daily worse. Thought I had kidney stone. Ck’d no Stones. Pain under rib. Pain is from under left rib to kidney. I am gassed up, with loose stool. I have slimy discharge anally. I’m wondering if it’s the ranitidine causing. Urologist has no clue. Reg Dr wants me to have colonoscopy. What is is, what do I do. I might go to area Hosp. ER tomorrow. Tied of constant pain. Father had cancers. My PSA was high recently. Please help.
I took this for several months and took 24 pills of it for gastritis like symptoms. I also have mental health issues. Its not helping reading zantac can cause all of these cancers colon, kidney, bladder, lung, liver etc etc etc.... So anyone who took this medication gets tested for all these cancers how? This is ridiculous!
Zantac or the generic ranitidine, my Dr gave me the ok on Monday because everything I eat gives me bad heartburn
