I am taking the drug to reduce the acid effect to the stomach lining which has been a concern lately.
I am certain that the missing heart beats are caused by the drug but the doctors are reluctant to accept it. I am not sure if I could replace Ranitidine with another drug to do the same job.
ve had it since about 15 weeks and am 27 weeks now, I take ranitidine tablets plus try to eat little and often, glass of milk helps and not lying flat too
I have 10 month old twin boys that were born 9 weeks early and have suffered from reflux since birth. They have been on domperidine, ranitidine and carobel ever since. We have managed to ween them from the domperidine which seemend to go ok only a little bit of sick. With advice from our paed we have recently taken them off the ranitidine but ever since they have been up all night , uncomfortable and suffering from a sever cough.
What do you ladies take for acid reflux? I'm 31 weeks and a few days and the past three weeks I've been waking up from a dead sleep vomiting from acid reflux. It gets up into my nose. The lining of my throat is burning. I have a cold right now too and asthma so vomiting and coughing is literally killing my throat. I just woke up from sleeping and threw up so badly I peed my pants. I'm so over this. I cant have Zantac because I'm super allergic.
Tums help and you can get a prescription for it. I take ranitidine works like a charm for the most part. But mine was so bad i would puke in my sleep and choke on it.

In order to treat Acid Reflux/GERD I have been taking Ranitidine/Zantac per doctors advice. I started developing various side effects several months ago. To verify the side effects were caused by the ranitidine I would stop for a few weeks and use TUMS instead. I repeated this cycle several times. The symptoms would go away each time I was off the ranitidine for a week or so.
hope it was decaffeinated as caffeine and chocolate are huge triggers for acid reflux! Have they tried any acid blockers vs. supressors which will help to heal any damage done by yrs of this acid ? Just a thought .. I am not a med person at all but my children have suffered from the classic type of severe GERD. Have they ever tried Carafate to coat/heal the esphogus and that may help with the swallowing?
Deepending on how bad your GERD is, the combination is quite common. I take ranitidine and Dexilant (also a PPI). For break through reflux, I take Mylanta or Rolaids. I have also been diagnosed with bile reflux and take a fourth medication for that.
It is best to manage GERD with diet and life style changes if you can. I also take a digestive enzyme and probiotic. I took a double dose of the probiotic for about 2 - 3 months a while back after taking a lot of antibiotics.
I'm a 27 y/o, 6 ft, 205 lbs relatively healthy male. Until recently I worked out regularly, I also eat fairly well, quit smoking and drink sparingly. Any way, my first bout w/ GERD hit me a little more than a year ago w/ nausea after eating.... now keep in mind I've never been officially diagnosed, just something my GP thought might be bothering me and prescribed me ranitidine... long story short, the ranitidine worked fine (150 mg/2x a day) and I was symptom free within 24 hours.
Have had acid reflux for a couple years, controlled fairly effectively with protonix. However, for the past 9 months it's gotten severe, daily, and symptoms are after I eat something, worse in evenings. Have had H-pylori, upper GI, endoscopy--nothing significant. Ultrasound of thyroid too. Nothing works, have tried omeprazole, famotidine, reglan, antacids, ranitidine, and others.
I've had heartburn & acid reflux the whole time. My first baby didn't have it at all. Rumor is baby has lots of hair if you experience this. Try raising your arms above your head for a few minutes, or try to drink a glass of water. Those usually help me. Hope you feel better!
Since I am very much aware of such episodes (had not happened for almost 14yrs), I immediately took Ranitidine (always carry in my wallet). Still didn't feel good so stepped outside of the theatre and decided to walk in the hallway. The pain suddenly increased to 10, Sat down and called 911, was cold and sweating and shivering, within 45secs of talking to 911, seems I had collapsed. I was surrounded by some strangers who had helped me lay flat on a bench with legs elevated.

Yes, all that jezbo said. I am guessing your diagnosis is laryngopharyngeal reflux, a type of acid reflux that affects the throat and voice box. I am on 40mg of Prilosec twice a day, an hour before breakfast and dinner. Still have the lump in my throat. You can look this up on the net and see if it sounds like what you have. Also, do not eat within about three hours of going to bed. I am sleeping on two pillows to prop myself up some, as using only one causes the acid to come up.

I started feeling better, but after the 30 day supply, I began feeling it all come back. Saw GI and he put me on Dexilant 30 day supply and that did not help.
I went back to ENT. She put me back on everything plus methlprednisolone (6 day). I started feeling better for a good month. Even stopped the sleeping pill.
Then I started feeling it all come back. Went to ER after a weekend of suffering.
About 6-8 months ago I started having a lot of nausea especially after eating, acid reflux taste in my mouth, and this has progressed to epigastric stomach pain as well. My GI doc has me on Omeprazole, Ranitidine, and Amitriptaline. I have tried natural supplements as well. Now I am back having more testing completed to see if this is reflux or something else. Can they do a 4th Nissen if it is reflux? Nervous about my options. Any info/help is appreciated

I've been on prilosec since I was 21 weeks.. I'm now 2 days shy of 36 weeks... and my baby has dropped and the acid reflux and heart burn lightened up!
