Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with low ejection fraction 35-40, but has no symptoms. He is 67 years old, runs 6 miles a day and has blood pressure of around 110/70 to 118/80. He was discovered to have LVEF during an echocardiogram performed to determine whether he had a bicuspid valve (which he does not) because it runs in the family. Cardiologists have since put him on BP meds to address what they are calling heart failure, even though he doesn't feel like he has heart failure.
Avatar f tn ACE inhibitors are used for treating high blood pressure, heart failure and for preventing kidney failure due to high blood pressure and diabetes. ACE is important because it is an enzyme responsible for producing the chemical, angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes muscles in most arteries, including the arteries of the heart, to contract, thereby narrowing the arteries and elevating blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I am confused by the drug RAMIPRIL. The leaflet in box and details in British Formulary list WEIGHT LOSS as a side effect (I have lost 6 kilos). On the Internet there are many letters regarding weight gain but nothing about weeight loss. Why is this?
Avatar m tn It has also been proven that putting an ICD (defibrillator) and/or pacemaker into patients with an EF of 35% or less with a wide QRS on EKG (which is reflective of damaged electrical conduction in the heart and is permanent after things like a heart attack) reduces mortality in patients with systolic heart failure compared to those who do not get those therapies. The physiology behind that is two fold: 1.
634169 tn?1222626752 Ive also been told I've got mild heart failure. I had heart attack which left me with severe heart failure had heart scan and now it's mild which is good news but also im still in shock I think with every thing I've been threw. Im 36 year d single mother of three children and very very scared as wot my future holds fir me.
Avatar m tn Years ago I had a dry cough due to heart failure, but it usually happened at night while in an inclined position. There were other symptoms that included faster than normal heart rate and shortness of breath. Thanks for sharing and if there are any followup questions you are welcome to ask.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I have kidney failure (Gfr generally between 40 and 50 but recently closer to 40), and also crohns which has been in remission for years but has recently been shown to be very active. My problem is for about 12 months now I have been prescribed ramipril for my kidneys and high blood pressure, but in the last few months and weeks (it seems to me since crohns has become active) it is making me feel absolutely terrible.
Avatar n tn I am trying to get some answers regarding the treatment of an elderly male in the UK. He has been diagnosed with heart failure and has a leaky valve and some irregular heart rythums. At the moment he still gets breathless after walking up a few stairs and I'm not happy with this situation. He also has a persistent cough which may be linked to his medication. He does have some water retention in lower legs.
Avatar f tn A year ago, I was diagnosed with CHF (conjective/chronic heart failure). My heart capacity was 7%. Both the left & right side of my heart were severely damaged, with all 4 valves leaking and my heart extremely enlarged. A year on and the right side has improved with the right subscribed medications; my heart has shrunk only a little, but has shrunk, all 4 valvues are still leaking, but not has severe and my heart capacity is now 46%....
Avatar n tn The fact that the heart is at 50% is a good sign because the average norm is 60% anyway for left ventricular failure. This person should cut out as much salt in the diet, and will prob be put on bisoprolol and ramipril...give it a year or so, they' ll be much better. I know, because it happened to me last May 2012. I'm so much better now. But I've worked hard on staying healthy. I.
1165186 tn?1262979929 It is good that this was diagnosed early. The overall treatment of cardiomyopathies is focused on treating heart failure. Continue your medications, watch your weight, eat healthy and have regular follow-up with your doctor.Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn You are lucky you have caught it early, before the bp caused other problems and heart failure. The heart should return to near normal over time, once the BP is controlled.
Avatar m tn Im the same im 36 years old had a heart attack which has left me with severe heart failure but has now gone to mild but im finding it all very hard and it's affecting me mentally.
Avatar n tn My guess is because you had a heart attack in the first place. There must be some risk factors you have that lead to a heart attack, high BP or high cholesterol. Perhaps there was no damage but your heart was weakened and you now have a reduced EF%. In any case, as Ed says it would be helpful to know what you're taking to answer intelligently.
Avatar m tn Taking Ramipril In morning for several years. Recently started taking Laxido & banana (for breakfast). About the same time started coughing frequently but intermittently & became slightly breathless when walking. 2 days ago doctor called Emergency as I had persistent chest pain & burping. No heart attack but abnormal ecg, which however improved after being in A&E for several hours. Wondering if Ramipril + laxido + banana too much potassium?
Avatar m tn In terms of the diagnosis, the cardiologist has referred only to hypertension but having read and aligned the symptoms of the enlarged heart and impaired function, is it not heart failure.....? Also, what is the prognosis for an enlarged heart caused by hypertension, especially in someone of 40 years of age.....can the enlarged heart and function return to normal over time with the medication? Thanks for any insight.
Avatar f tn I take ramipril for my blood pressure.
Avatar m tn This sounds more like chronic heart failure to me, nicotine is the worst thing for it. My doc would add a diruetic to what you are taking and go for 130/80 pressure.
976897 tn?1379167602 s no problem taking beta blockers when your resting heart rate is 66. If it was in the high 40s or lower it could be a problem. Resting heart rate isn't very affected by beta blockade, but the heart rate during stress and exercise may be. Anyway, there are lots of other alternatives than beta blockers, such as AT2 blockers, calcium channel blockers or if they fail; antiadrenergics or alpha blockers.
Avatar f tn There is a difference between having heart failure and being "in" heart failure. People can have heart failure and with proper medications, diet, etc. feel pretty decent. But then they can occasionally slip into heart failure with the shortness of breath, fatigue, edema, cough, etc. And that needs to be treated more aggressively by the cardiologist. If he's feeling bad again, he needs to go back to the doctor.
Avatar m tn I checked my BP five minutes later, 118/71, pulse 72, and no symbol. I have also noticed that when I first start jogging I can hear my heart pounding in my head, but it goes away. I'm a little worried, and I am contemplating calling my cardiologist back and seeing what he thinks about me wearing a Holter monitor. Is it possible that the Ramipril is lowering my blood pressure to much and that is causing an arrhythmia? Is it the hypokinesis?
Avatar n tn Was the ramipril reduction ordered by your doctor?? Ramipril it is important to avoid cardiac remodeling. Low BP and dizziness can be due to hot weather. The other effects can be due to worsening of your HF.
