976897 tn?1379167602 s no problem taking beta blockers when your resting heart rate is 66. If it was in the high 40s or lower it could be a problem. Resting heart rate isn't very affected by beta blockade, but the heart rate during stress and exercise may be. Anyway, there are lots of other alternatives than beta blockers, such as AT2 blockers, calcium channel blockers or if they fail; antiadrenergics or alpha blockers.
Avatar m tn t betablockers slow the heart rate? My heart rate while jogging, lightly, is around 145-160, but my resting heart rate is often between 55-65. Could the betablockers slow my resting heart rate too much?
Avatar m tn I am a 31 year old male, 6'4, 195lbs. I visited a cardiologist in April 2010 because of palpitations during exercise. I had an echo done: trace mitral and tricuspid inefficiency, EF 53%, borderline global hypokinesis (my left ventricular motion is borderline reduced, but structurally normal). Overall, the doctor said I was fine but hypertensive, so he put me on 10mg of Ramipril for my BP. Recently, I've had continued issues with anxiety during exercise and palpitations.
Avatar n tn Plavix works much like a blood thinner to keep blood cells from sticking together and forming additional clots. The Metoprolol and Ramipril are both used to control your blood pressure by slowing down your heart rate and keeping your heart from being "over worked". These can be difficult to get used to and can cause fatigue, dizziness and a feeling of being disconnected.
Avatar f tn Thats exactly what I mean, but, when it speeds up it seems to go rather fast.
1567714 tn?1318573193 Welcome and thanks for your question. I am sorry to hear of your issues, however I don't think there is a connection between your low heart rate and high BP. You are on two BP meds, a beta blocker to slow your heart rate (Atenolol) and an ACE inhibitor to relax your arteries and allow them to absorb each beat a little easier (Ramipril ). Do you know if your doctor has added a diuretic to these? If not, I would ask about one to help with the fluid retention.
1020296 tn?1251475359 doctor prescribed some medicines which includes baclofen, ramipril, clopidogrel, amolodipine , atenolol, atorvastatin and escitolopram. after taking medicines her pulse rate has gone to 45-50 range and blood pressure is still 160/120. I'd like to ask why pulse rate is going low..is it due to side effect of medicines..
Avatar n tn If your blood pressure goes high, that puts a strain on the heart which may provoke different sorts of irregular heart rhythm. Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia which may be a consequence. Ask your doctor which arrhythmia you suffer from. It may also be that something is stressing you when the blood pressure is high, and that "something" also is causing arrhythmias.
335873 tn?1264913469 I have metabolic syndrome and most of the aspects of it are under reasonable control with meds except my BP. The Toprol that I'm on keeps my heart rate low, generally in the 60s even when my BP spikes. I monitor it throughout the day with cuffs that are properly calibrated. I find that when my BP spikes my Diastolic can hover around 100 while my Systolic can be in the 130s-140s. My doc would like to have me on Ramapril but I'm on Allopurinol for Gout which could have a bad interaction.
Avatar m tn Nonetheless, to be on the safe side I was given a nuclear stress test - everything turned out just fine, my cardiologist said my heart is perfectly normal. The only problem was the high heart rate - when I went to get on the treadmill my heart rate jumped from 90 bpm to 145 bpm. This is definitely from the anxiety - I was terrified of the test and treadmills make me very uncomfortable. Moreover, at home my heart rate never makes a jump like that, it usually goes from 60 bpm to 80 bpm.
Avatar m tn There are better ways to aim at blood pressure when there is no issue with the heart, such as a good ace inhibitor like Ramipril. 5mg of Ramipril sorted out my BP because the Bisoprolol didn't affect it, unless I was overdosed. I think you are wise to question the decision. What have they decided is your average blood pressure during the day?
1635396 tn?1301883247 It dilates the vessels, and I have been on that medication for more than 7 years. A beta blocker is more appropriate for stablizing heart rate, but some beta blockers have some beneficial affect on blood pressure. Thanks for your question, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that works by slowing down the heart rate and relaxing the blood vessels. It can certainly cause the sensations you describe by slowing the heart rate to the point that his circulation to his extremities is impaired. There are many options for BP meds, you should discuss them with his doctor. There is also a class of drugs called ARBs that also work by relaxing the blood vessels and are a bit more effective at doing so without slowing the heart rate.
Avatar m tn all experts/members I am 64 year old man who is on medicine for HIGH BP, Diabetes and irrglar heart beat. I am taking Atenolol 25mg(OD),Ramipril 10mg(OD),Amlodipin 5mg(OD),ecospirin 75mg (OD),Telmisartan 40 mg(OD) for HIGH BP. I am taking Metformin 500mg(BD), Glimpride 1mg (BD) for diabetes beside taking Ayurveda medicine. I get -irregular heart beat every now and then which lasts for 24 hours.
Avatar m tn I have always been active and my cardiologist did discuss athletes heart as a potential, but I am dubious of this. My resting heart rate is about 55bpm for sure, but I simply don't do enough strenuous exercise to warrant this. I cycle to and from work about three to four times a week (15 mins each way) and I cycle once a week for about two hours. I used to do weights and kickboxing but not for the last year or two.
Avatar f tn I have heart failure - don't know if it is congestive or not. .I have prosthetic Mitral valve,bi-ventricular pacemaker and understand it is pacing all time. In AFall time. I am confused by the drug RAMIPRIL. The leaflet in box and details in British Formulary list WEIGHT LOSS as a side effect (I have lost 6 kilos). On the Internet there are many letters regarding weight gain but nothing about weeight loss. Why is this?
Avatar f tn side effects that beta blockers in general may cause (low blood pressure, cold hands/feet, low heart rate, in some cases depression) - some of them are desired effects though, it may be that you have a reaction towards Metoprolol in general. Beta blockers differ in how much they affect different organs - for example, depression caused by Metoprolol may happen because the drug enters the brain. Atenolol, for example, does not. Magnesium does not reduce heart rate very much.
Avatar m tn Taking Ramipril In morning for several years. Recently started taking Laxido & banana (for breakfast). About the same time started coughing frequently but intermittently & became slightly breathless when walking. 2 days ago doctor called Emergency as I had persistent chest pain & burping. No heart attack but abnormal ecg, which however improved after being in A&E for several hours. Wondering if Ramipril + laxido + banana too much potassium?
Avatar f tn more and more i see ramipril 2.5 ordered to help kidney function...could you elaborate for my own knowledge please...
Avatar f tn Decrease the resistence with medication (ramipril), the heart may reverse the remodeling with rest and return the heart to proper size and that can increase the EF....my experience. If your heart condition cannot return to normal, the heart's functionality can be sufficient as evidenced by many individuals who do well with a lower than normal EF. There are compensating factors that help the system cope with a weak heart, and with the proper life style, proper diet, exercise, etc.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with low ejection fraction 35-40, but has no symptoms. He is 67 years old, runs 6 miles a day and has blood pressure of around 110/70 to 118/80. He was discovered to have LVEF during an echocardiogram performed to determine whether he had a bicuspid valve (which he does not) because it runs in the family. Cardiologists have since put him on BP meds to address what they are calling heart failure, even though he doesn't feel like he has heart failure.
1542723 tn?1294447438 Hello everybody, I read a post by Ed which mentioned something about his tooth decay and heart medication. That got me thinking because of late ( well soon after my Heart Attack ) I have been having all sort of dental problems. Post MI my gums bleed ( the sink looks like a bloodbath! ) but more then that I have had two fillings, one cap and at least five visits to my dentist all in space of six months.
