Ramipril and metoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Ramipril and metoprolol

altace

Hi, can you tell us the difference(s) between Altace (ramipril) and metoprolol? What different effects do they each have that are different from each other? Are there any long-term bad side effects to ramipril? And your opinion to a combination of aspirin and Plavix to decrease the bloodclotting potential of just aspirin alone? Thank you. Ross I.
Also, my cholesterol is 137. I was taken off of the ramipril and put on 12.5mg of metoprolol twice a day. I started Monday and my heart rate hardly ever goes above 60 bpm; even standing and when I walk at a normal pace it stays in the 70's. I can't go for long walks without being exhausted, though today I was happy that I managed to get my heart rate up to 102 (at that pace it normally would have been at 118-124). I'm feeling tired often. Are these side effects temporary?

There are better ways to aim at blood pressure when there is no issue with the heart, such as a good ace inhibitor like Ramipril. 5mg of Ramipril sorted out my BP because the Bisoprolol didn't affect it, unless I was overdosed. I think you are wise to question the decision. What have they decided is your average blood pressure during the day?
So, my cardio took me off of the ramipril and put me on 12.5 mg of metoprolol twice a day and in addition to my 12.5 of HCTZ. However, after a week of feeling exhausted, having a resting heart rate consistently in the low 50s, and not much higher otherwise, I complained during my follow up. My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better.
I had been taking Ramipril for years. Went to a new Dr. who changed me to Quinapril twice a day because he said it was better for kidneys and added Metoprolol ER 50mg / day because my pulse was always around 90. My BP was usually 120 / 80 with the Ramipril. It's now down to 105 / 65 and my pulse is down to 70. BUT I can't stand how gassy the Metoprolol makes me. I am walking around passing gas all day without being able to control it.
Jon They have me on Plavix,Metoprolol,Ramipril, and if my insurance company approves it Crestor. I keep feeling worse every day and I feel it must be the meds. Will I ever get used to them. Before my heart attack my BP was fine and my cholestrol was good, however I have a family history of major heart problems.

I am 28 years old and I currently take metoprolol for high blood pressure, I have read that some blood pressure medication can cause nipple discharge, do you know if meteprolol is one of these? There was no signs of CAD, my heart structure appeard to be normal and the only thing the Cardiologist told me was that I had mild Diastolic Dysfunction which my cardiologist prescribed Metoperlol for in addition to the ramipril that I already took for HBP. . Is this something that I should be concerned about.
Could you please tell me how the following drugs work on reducing blood pressure?
The next day after I left the hospital my cardiologist performed nuclear imaging with stress test and the results were normal (no dead heart muscle or any dark area in the pictures). Ecg also looked normal as well. I've been on Ramipril, Metoprolol, and Aspirin since. I was told to go back and see him in a month. Yesterday suddenly I felt very dizzy and fainting and for a few minutes my heartbeat went way up. So, I went back to the ER to get checked.
Ramipril 5 mg once daily (Altace) Simvastatin 20 mg Once daily (Zocor) Metoprolol Succ er 50 mg tasan Once daily (Toprol) Ecotrin 81 mg Once daily (ASPIRIN) I additionally take Centrum Vitamins Of late I have observed that I am lacking general focus and concentration (like my brain goes to sleep). I feel mental tiredness. I have to tell my brain to be alert when I make mistakes counting money bills etc. I have a suspicion that this is due to the side effect of one or more of the above drugs.
My Mom is 70 yrs currently at nursing home with her right leg paralyzed. She has been experiencing severe rectal pain for more than a month now. She is eating regularly but cannot sit for too long. She's not constipated and does not experience pain during bowel movement. Nothing found on her rectal exam, nothing on ultrasound of her reproductive system, found normal results on colonoscopy except for two polyps that were removed and is undergoing analysis by a pathologist.

All was pretty normal with the exception that I have mild diastolic dysfunction which a cardiologist told me is not considered heart disease. I have high blood pressure and take Metoprolol to lower my heart rate and also ramipril. Recently I have had a couple of EKG's that have shown non-specific ST abnormality but no one seems to be concerend about this. Most recently (last couple of months) I have noticed that I get alot of what feels like skipped heart beats.
I've had horribl3 experiences with beta blockers in the past and swore I would never take them again. My primary care doc put me on metoprolol 25mg once a day. It lowered my heart rate ...but, it makes me feel horrible. It makes me feel weak, anxxious, dizzy. I tried cutting back to 12.5mg and my heart pounding started again....no tachy but heart pounding. Tonight I went back up to 25mg cause i couldn't stand my heart coming out of my chest....and it was only in the 80s.
Following surgery and recovery I lost 37 lbs and have kept it off and I was put on a drug regimen of metoprolol and ramipril (ace inhibitor). After 6-months we cut the amount of metoprolol in half. My typical blood pressures for the last 2-years have run 115/65. Suddenly in the last 2-weeks my pressures have shot up and I'm now running as high as 170/100. My stress test is clear.

My mom just got out the hospital after being brought in for heart attack like symptoms (severe chest pain, arm numbness). She previously was on metoprolol 100mg twice daily, hydrochlorothiazide 25mg daily, fish oil, baby aspirin and lipitor 40mg daily. The ambulance/er gave her nitro x2 doses, baby aspirin, and enalapril. She was admitted to the cardiac unit the same day. Her bp had significantly spiked, noticable up to 184/126 at one point.
I take metoprolol for PVC's and SVT. The major side effects I've experienced are TIREDNESS and, because I already have low BP and vasovagal syndrome, it has made me more prone to passing out then I have been for years. The metoprolol knocks you on your butt when you first start taking it. It also caused me to have really weird dreams when I did sleep. My heart rate went from an average of 65 bpm to 55 bpm with 12.5mg/day. I take prozac for the anxiety that was caused by PVC's and SVT.
I'm not sure how much significance that really has, but they seem to think it was important. I am taking metoprolol 50mg twice per day, ramipril 2.5 mg once per day, lipitor 10mg once per day, plavix 75mg once per day and coated aspirin once per day. I use the nitro spray as needed and also have the nitro patch (.8mg?).
