Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with low ejection fraction 35-40, but has no symptoms. He is 67 years old, runs 6 miles a day and has blood pressure of around 110/70 to 118/80. He was discovered to have LVEF during an echocardiogram performed to determine whether he had a bicuspid valve (which he does not) because it runs in the family. Cardiologists have since put him on BP meds to address what they are calling heart failure, even though he doesn't feel like he has heart failure.
Avatar f tn ACE inhibitors are used for treating high blood pressure, heart failure and for preventing kidney failure due to high blood pressure and diabetes. ACE is important because it is an enzyme responsible for producing the chemical, angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes muscles in most arteries, including the arteries of the heart, to contract, thereby narrowing the arteries and elevating blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I have heart failure - don't know if it is congestive or not. .I have prosthetic Mitral valve,bi-ventricular pacemaker and understand it is pacing all time. In AFall time. I am confused by the drug RAMIPRIL. The leaflet in box and details in British Formulary list WEIGHT LOSS as a side effect (I have lost 6 kilos). On the Internet there are many letters regarding weight gain but nothing about weeight loss. Why is this?
Avatar m tn synchronizing the pacing (beating) of the heart when the native electrical system is damaged allows for the heart to beat in its more natural way, preventing worsening heart failure over time and leading to recovery of ejection fraction in many patients. I hope that helps. Maybe you should see a new cardiologist?
Avatar f tn Hi there. I have kidney failure (Gfr generally between 40 and 50 but recently closer to 40), and also crohns which has been in remission for years but has recently been shown to be very active. My problem is for about 12 months now I have been prescribed ramipril for my kidneys and high blood pressure, but in the last few months and weeks (it seems to me since crohns has become active) it is making me feel absolutely terrible.
634169 tn?1222626752 Ive also been told I've got mild heart failure. I had heart attack which left me with severe heart failure had heart scan and now it's mild which is good news but also im still in shock I think with every thing I've been threw. Im 36 year d single mother of three children and very very scared as wot my future holds fir me.
Avatar m tn Your mother should contact her doctor to rule out any serious problems such as heart failure. Also, there could be side effects from the medication so if there were added medication or an increase of medication that could be the problem. Also, there could be a respiratory problem that should be ruled out. Years ago I had a dry cough due to heart failure, but it usually happened at night while in an inclined position.
Avatar n tn I am trying to get some answers regarding the treatment of an elderly male in the UK. He has been diagnosed with heart failure and has a leaky valve and some irregular heart rythums. At the moment he still gets breathless after walking up a few stairs and I'm not happy with this situation. He also has a persistent cough which may be linked to his medication. He does have some water retention in lower legs.
Avatar f tn Decrease the resistence with medication (ramipril), the heart may reverse the remodeling with rest and return the heart to proper size and that can increase the EF....my experience. If your heart condition cannot return to normal, the heart's functionality can be sufficient as evidenced by many individuals who do well with a lower than normal EF. There are compensating factors that help the system cope with a weak heart, and with the proper life style, proper diet, exercise, etc.
Avatar n tn This person should cut out as much salt in the diet, and will prob be put on bisoprolol and ramipril...give it a year or so, they' ll be much better. I know, because it happened to me last May 2012. I'm so much better now. But I've worked hard on staying healthy. I.
Avatar m tn You are lucky you have caught it early, before the bp caused other problems and heart failure. The heart should return to near normal over time, once the BP is controlled.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed at age 31 with an EF25-30%, it may feel like the end of the world and yet it's not really. You will have to adjust as all who came before you and those that will follow after we are gone. Your case doesn't sound like a typically defined CHF case. But I can bet there treating you just the same. What to expect is the unexpected, keep a log of how you feel and what your capable of doing.
Avatar f tn 5mg everyday, for to treat the diabetic nephropathy, i can get ramipril in my town but its 5mg ramipril capsule in the chemists, and his medications are over, so should i let him take the 5mg ramipril? my big concern is would the dose cause hypoglycaemia or any other effects as the dosage will be double the dose hid doctor prescribed? please help me on that, i will be grateful...thank you.
Avatar m tn and everything came back normal. Also, my cholesterol is 137. I was taken off of the ramipril and put on 12.5mg of metoprolol twice a day. I started Monday and my heart rate hardly ever goes above 60 bpm; even standing and when I walk at a normal pace it stays in the 70's. I can't go for long walks without being exhausted, though today I was happy that I managed to get my heart rate up to 102 (at that pace it normally would have been at 118-124). I'm feeling tired often.
Avatar n tn If your blood pressure goes high, that puts a strain on the heart which may provoke different sorts of irregular heart rhythm. Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia which may be a consequence. Ask your doctor which arrhythmia you suffer from. It may also be that something is stressing you when the blood pressure is high, and that "something" also is causing arrhythmias.
Avatar n tn Plavix works much like a blood thinner to keep blood cells from sticking together and forming additional clots. The Metoprolol and Ramipril are both used to control your blood pressure by slowing down your heart rate and keeping your heart from being "over worked". These can be difficult to get used to and can cause fatigue, dizziness and a feeling of being disconnected.
Avatar m tn Taking Ramipril In morning for several years. Recently started taking Laxido & banana (for breakfast). About the same time started coughing frequently but intermittently & became slightly breathless when walking. 2 days ago doctor called Emergency as I had persistent chest pain & burping. No heart attack but abnormal ecg, which however improved after being in A&E for several hours. Wondering if Ramipril + laxido + banana too much potassium?
Avatar m tn It seems to be fairly common with Hypertension that if it goes on for a while at those high levels, then the heart slowly begins to enlarge, function becomes impaired and with heart failure being part of the complications. I am no doc but generally the heart improves function in the months following the reduction in blood pressure. The prognosis should be good as long as things are closely monitored and the meds are continued as prescribed. The EF often gets better in time also.
Avatar f tn What do you mean by speed up and slow down? Do you mean heart rate variability? If so, this is normal and actually a good thing.
Avatar f tn Some of these medications should be uptitrated by his cardiologist to allow for the maximum dose as he tolerates them (namely, Ramipril and Metoprolol). His Plavix should continue for either several months up to 1-2 years depending on the type of stent he received at the time of his percutaneous coronary intervention (bare metal stent vs. drug-eluting). As with most medications, daily compliance with all of these is imperative for maintaining healthy cardiovascular fitness.
Avatar f tn This morning I woke up feeling very faint and shaky, I also felt as if I would fall forward. I am a heart patient, and take beta blocker (low dose) and ramipril. My bp was up but not very high, my pulse and sats were normal, any ideas as to what caused it, should I have seen my gp?
976897 tn?1379167602 How is your heart rate? Can you do beta blockers? Magnesium and potassium affect blood pressure. Foods like blueberries, oatmeal, beets, baked potatoes and bananas are full of magnesium and potassium. I would definitely talk about this BP issue with your doctor. As astute and well informed as you are about anything heart related, I am sure you will make a good decision after being given options. 145/105 is probably too high for someone who has had heart problems.
