I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.

The medications currently FDA approved as chemoprevention for breast cancer are tamoxifen and raloxifene. Decisions to use a medication as chemoprevention would be made based on weighing the risks and benefits to the individual patient.

less evidence was found for raloxifene. the USPSTF found good evidence that both tamoxifen and raloxifene increase the risk of thromboembolitic events (stroke, DVT, PE). they found that tamoxifen increases the risk of endometrial CA. the USPSTF recommends screening for colon CA starting at age 50 in men and women. earlier screening recommendations depend on the patient, family history and medical conditions (ie they are different for conditions such as ulcerative colitis, etc).

Aside from radiation, you can ask your doctor about other breast cancer risk reduction strategies such as that of hormonal treatment with tamoxifen or raloxifene. Other breast conditions that may increase the risk of invasive cancer would include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). Regards.

Use of Raloxifene is intended to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and to decrease the risk of invasise breast cancer or to prevent invasive breast cancer from retuning in women who have had invasive BC. I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.

I have been told by Oncologist that have 5 times risk factor for breast cancer. Am on raloxifene. Last nite I noticed some dimpling on the biopsied breast abt 1" from incision scar. Just had a manual exam by the Oncologist and don't want to seem like a hypochondriac, but should I see him again. He felt nothing during manual exam, but the lump that was removed was not palpable either and only detected by mammo.

Other forms of treatment post-operatively would include additional radiation therapy, or hormonal treatment with Tamoxifen or Raloxifene. All of these additional treatments are aimed to lessen the chance of recurrence as well as prevent the future development of frankly invasive cancers. Regards.

Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.

The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?

People with schizophrenia doesn't realize that they are hearing stuff aren't there, and they usually response to these hallucinations as if they are real while they aren't. I've noticed that you're posting too much about it, and no you don't have schizophrenia. And you aren't showing any symptoms other than hallucinations. Schizophrenia jsmt only about hallucinations it's about losing touch with reality.

I am curious to this question, If someone does not have any family background of schizophrenia and they are the only 1% of the population that gets schizophrenia anyways, how can it be just genetic? This is depressing.How can they prove that a child has 30 40 or 60 percent chance of getting this disease? Because I sopposedly had schiz now I find out whether or not I have it I probably can't adopt and they say I should not have kids.

Also he/she wants to know why that everyone is telling he/she not to ever have kids because he/she would not be allowed to adopt he/she has thought this thru and decided since he/she was only the 1% of the population that gets schizophrenia without inheratence that it may be ok to have children.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia? I've been told by doctors that there are many similarities, and that sometimes Bipolar can even become Schizophrenia over time, if its not treated properly. Is this true?

While I'm sure that people with Schizophrenia may experience some of the symptoms you described, that doesn't mean that you have Schizophrenia. Those symptoms can also be caused by Severe Depression. What is your age? It is very, and I mean VERY rare for anyone to develope Schizophrenia after the age of about 20. Depression and Schizophrenia are two very different illnesses.

I suggest that you discuss with your oncologist regarding additional treatments like tamoxifen or raloxifene. These two drugs are proven to further decrease the chance of the cancer recurring on the same or the other breast and I believe would be of great benefit to your mother. However, these drugs have side effects that I believe are manageable and should be discussed well with the oncologist. Regards.

I believe that you are a candidate for risk lowering strategies such as taking hormonal agents (raloxifene or tamoxifen), or surgery (mastectomy). All of these should be discussed with an oncologist or surgeon. Regards.

Yes schizophrenia doesnt have any mood changes but there are a whole spectrum of conditions in between such as bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective disorder which involve both psychosis and mood changes. Sometimes certain concerns such as psychosis can increase over time become more apparent or are more in need of treatment. Bipolar with psychotic features is generally defined by psychotic thoughts or auditory or other hallucinations occuring only during mood swings..

If your really scared of having schizophrenia because of anxiety could you make up the schizophrenia symptoms yourself?? For example if someone with anxiety fears of hearing voices could they imagen the voices themselves in their head and think they have schizophrenia even do its just them imagining the voices because their so anxious???
