Avatar f tn Lymphnodes clear and had five weeks of radiation treatment. Tried Tomxifene but made me ill. Dr, recommended Raloxifene. does Raloxifene prevent the recurrance of my type of breast cancer? Marian This discussion is related to Aromatase vs. Raloxifene.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am not Trin but I also have / had PCT. There are specific tests to diagnose PCT which my dermatologist did. AS far as myself and Trin the manifestations were large liquid filled blisters that made a mess nof our hands. The blisters were like a burn that filled with a clear liquid. In my case it did not start with a rash but only the blisters. The blisters hurt so bad, almost to the bone hurt. Trin will chime in here I am sure of that and she is better able to put into words tham me.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.
Avatar m tn Guess I should say PCT skin manifestations return after tx as the PCT is chronic anyway. I also should spell it correctly "porphyria" (I think).
Avatar f tn The next step is cirrhosis so I had to start treatment as soon as my PCT was in check. PCT is chronic, not really any cure, but the doctor said treat the hepc and the PCT will go away and it has so far. If I can answer any other questions, please ask. I feel I am somewhat knowledgeable in this area and will share any information I can. Another one of our memeber GSgirl also had PCT and she may lend some expertise as well.
Avatar f tn If you haven’t begun treatment for HCV yet, this might be something called ‘PCT’ or ‘Porphyria Cutanea Tarda. It typically manifests as blisters on the upper body, particularly in those areas that are in contact with the sun. it is also strongly associated with Hep C. It involves iron management by the liver, and may require phlebotomy, or bloodletting, to help resolve it. Look for small blisters on sun-exposed areas; they may leave small scars as they heal over.
Avatar f tn The medications currently FDA approved as chemoprevention for breast cancer are tamoxifen and raloxifene. Decisions to use a medication as chemoprevention would be made based on weighing the risks and benefits to the individual patient.
Avatar n tn From what you are describing it sounds like an extra hepatic manifestation associated with hepc called Porphyria Cutanea Tarda (PCT). Essentially, what happens is because of the hepc the liver does not process iron properly. See your doctor and have phlebotomy sessions (blood letting) scheduled to treat the Porphyria. Phlebotomy reduces ferrtin levels and generally the Porphyria will subside. Here is a link which explains PCT. http://www.porphyriafoundation.
799705 tn?1238115168 there with are now 3 of us on here porphyria pct. I was wondering how you got diagnosed with the pct but I see you are The sun brings it out. My husband also does not have Hep C and we have been together 20 years. No question is redundant. Welcome to the site!!
394052 tn?1203100849 less evidence was found for raloxifene. the USPSTF found good evidence that both tamoxifen and raloxifene increase the risk of thromboembolitic events (stroke, DVT, PE). they found that tamoxifen increases the risk of endometrial CA. the USPSTF recommends screening for colon CA starting at age 50 in men and women. earlier screening recommendations depend on the patient, family history and medical conditions (ie they are different for conditions such as ulcerative colitis, etc).
Avatar f tn I had PCT, a type of porphyria which caused blisters on my hands due to liver malfunction. PCT does not cause pain except where the blisters were.
Avatar f tn Aside from radiation, you can ask your doctor about other breast cancer risk reduction strategies such as that of hormonal treatment with tamoxifen or raloxifene. Other breast conditions that may increase the risk of invasive cancer would include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). Regards.
Avatar m tn Hi..may I know is there any different type of HCV RNA PCT TEST? Are all the PCR TEST detect the same level of virus? or Cheaper PCR TEST detect slight not as lower as Expensive PCT TEST? Because I found some hugh price differences from lab.
Avatar f tn Use of Raloxifene is intended to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and to decrease the risk of invasise breast cancer or to prevent invasive breast cancer from retuning in women who have had invasive BC. If you have questions or concerns about using it, it would be best to discuss them with the physician who prescribed it. Best wishes...
Avatar m tn It sounds as if you may have porphryia Cutanea Tarda or PCT for short. This is a skin disease that often goes along with hep C. It is important that you avoid alcohol, stay out of the sun and avoid trauma to your skin. Many of these patients have excess iron. A dermatologist can diagnose this fairly easily.
Avatar f tn PCT measurement may add to diagnostic accuracy in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases who present with a febrile illness, especially when highly sensitive PCT assays and specific PCT cutoff ranges are used in a predefined clinical setting (reflecting the likelihood of infection versus an autoimmune disease flare). However, there are limitations when using this biomarker in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases.
Avatar f tn I have hcv type 2 and I also have pct and I was wondering if pct is contagious??
Avatar m tn I also had PCT cause by hepatitis c. You might need a few more phlebotomies or they might be over. Make sure you get copies of all your test results, I didn't and am nw trying to get them. There is another on this list that knows a lot more than me who had PCT, her name is trinity and I am sure she will be replying to you also. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL.
Avatar f tn Four years ago I participated in a trail which was Teleprevir Phase ll, which is now know as Incivek. I received all three meds Teleprevir, Riba and Interferon as this trial was not blinded. I was fortunate that my vl was UND in two weeks and was able to do tx for only six months. This was the reason for the trial to see if people could remain UND doing tx for six months. Up until then people had to treat for a year. I must say those six months were the worst of my life.
