Avatar f tn I just wanted to be sure that because I have been diagnoised with breast cancer and have gone through radiation treatment that the Raloxifene will be as affective as Tamoxifene in keeping the cancer from recurring. Thank you for your input.
Avatar f tn Use of Raloxifene is intended to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and to decrease the risk of invasise breast cancer or to prevent invasive breast cancer from retuning in women who have had invasive BC. If you have questions or concerns about using it, it would be best to discuss them with the physician who prescribed it. Best wishes...
Avatar f tn So I feel comfortable waiting for the flashes to settle down before trying the Raloxifene and if needed, Effexor. Dr also gave me a back-up prescr for Clonidine, which she says is good for flashes. I'm going to ask her about Celexa and Lexapro in lieu of Effexor. I don't want to take any of that cr*p. I always seem to get the bad side effects from any meds I try. The only bad thing about waiting to start the Evista is that I have already jumped from osteopenia to osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn The medications currently FDA approved as chemoprevention for breast cancer are tamoxifen and raloxifene. Decisions to use a medication as chemoprevention would be made based on weighing the risks and benefits to the individual patient.
492898 tn?1222243598 Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive. Hormone receptor positive breast cancer is depended on estrogen hormone for multiplication and growth and it is rational to block the hormones on which the tumor cells are feeding. Contrary to many people’s belief; hormonal therapy is a more effective form of breast caner adjuvant therapy compared to chemotherapy.
394052 tn?1203100849 less evidence was found for raloxifene. the USPSTF found good evidence that both tamoxifen and raloxifene increase the risk of thromboembolitic events (stroke, DVT, PE). they found that tamoxifen increases the risk of endometrial CA. the USPSTF recommends screening for colon CA starting at age 50 in men and women. earlier screening recommendations depend on the patient, family history and medical conditions (ie they are different for conditions such as ulcerative colitis, etc).
Avatar f tn Atypical cells may be the early stages in cancer development, and having these may increase your risk of developing invasive breast cancer in the future. Aside from radiation, you can ask your doctor about other breast cancer risk reduction strategies such as that of hormonal treatment with tamoxifen or raloxifene. Other breast conditions that may increase the risk of invasive cancer would include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). Regards.

Avatar f tn Is Strattera a better stimulant drug for ADD than the others as far as not making schizophrenia symptoms worse? I am considering trying Strattera and have heard that it is the only non-narcotic available for ADD. I also have breathing problems and faintness at times which is a concern with ADD drugs and schizophrenia drugs as well... If anyone has tried this drug for ADD and has Schizophrenia and has had no problems with it I'd like to know about YOUR experience with it before I try it...
1351968 tn?1278205300 Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia? I've been told by doctors that there are many similarities, and that sometimes Bipolar can even become Schizophrenia over time, if its not treated properly. Is this true?
Avatar n tn I have been told by Oncologist that have 5 times risk factor for breast cancer. Am on raloxifene. Last nite I noticed some dimpling on the biopsied breast abt 1" from incision scar. Just had a manual exam by the Oncologist and don't want to seem like a hypochondriac, but should I see him again. He felt nothing during manual exam, but the lump that was removed was not palpable either and only detected by mammo.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comments... it's much appreciated! God bless you, too!
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with OCD for 2 to 3 years now and on Zoloft. My initial fear used to be I was becoming a murderer and now it is that I'll develop schizophrenia. Im constantly paying attention to my perceptions and senses, making sure I'm not hallucinating hearing or seeing something. For awhile now I've had optical illusions where I'll see something out of the corner of my eye and think it's something else.
Avatar f tn You should talk to your doctor about this idea. A lot of times psychiatrists simply don't want to diagnose people with schizophrenia because of the stereotype and the emotional stress just the diagnosis can have on the patient. However, you seem to be aware of yourself and that's not always typical of someone with schizophrenia. If you are concered you should just talk to the doctor. It's not a death sentence and you may not even have it!
918275 tn?1254068752 Can anyone tell me what the difference is between Psychosis and Schizophrenia? I am kind of confused about the two. Any Insight would be helpful.
Avatar n tn For atypical hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), it is best that the margins are at least 5-10mm from the edges. This would ensure that the recurrence will be low. The best way to deal with a close margin is to do another resection procedure, with a wider margin. Other forms of treatment post-operatively would include additional radiation therapy, or hormonal treatment with Tamoxifen or Raloxifene.
Avatar f tn I am 5 weeks pregnant and the father has paranoid schizophrenia, among other things. He has been pretty abusive after about the first month of our relationship. He is now in jail and back on his medications and seems to be doing a lot better. I didn't find out I was pregnant until after was arrested.
Avatar n tn careful observation, medications to decrease estrogen, or some women might opt for surgery to remove the breasts (prophylactic mastectomy). Decisions are made after discussion and weighing of risks and benefits for the individual patient. Several factors such as estrogen receptor status, age, and menopausal status, risk factors (strong family history, BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations) are taken into account in this risk/benefit discussion.
Avatar m tn Hi Again, Sorry to post this so soon after another question, but its another 4 weeks until I see my PDoc so wanted some advice. My main fear is that I have schizophrenia, and I know that being paranoid can be a part of this...so here is my symptoms. Recently at work or home, if I am making a coffee or cup of tea, and I use someone elses milk (Steal in a sense!) for a moment I worry about the possibility that perhaps someone 'may' of put LSD (Or a drug) in it.
Avatar n tn My sister has autoimmune thyroid disorder and psoriatic arthritis. A brother has ulcerative colitis and years ago had Schizophrenia. I suspect a genetic HLA B27 connection to Lupus but as yet no one seems to have any knowledge.
Avatar m tn They can for some people cause temporary cognitive confusion which can be difficult but each person responds differently to each medication. Marijuana can temporarily worsen the symptoms of bipolar, schizoaffective and schizophrenia (among other psychiatric disabilities) and make it harder to treat so they are best avoided.
719301 tn?1230345094 Risk factors include family history of schizophrenia, trauma, stress, malnutrition, viral infections, use of psychoactive drugs etc. Brain cyst is not related to catatonic schizophrenia, but there could be stress and trauma which could have led to catatonic schizophrenia in your case. Check this link for further information on this. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn People with schizophrenia doesn't realize that they are hearing stuff aren't there, and they usually response to these hallucinations as if they are real while they aren't. I've noticed that you're posting too much about it, and no you don't have schizophrenia. And you aren't showing any symptoms other than hallucinations. Schizophrenia jsmt only about hallucinations it's about losing touch with reality.
Avatar m tn oh and today i was driving and all of sudden i felt like im dead..i felt like i'm just seeing the world around me but i dont exist..it was a really strange feeling..i thought like im empty and i just have two eyes..is this something that anxiety might cause?
Avatar f tn Hi I am 12 weeks and this is my first child I have a bipolar mother and a brother with schizophrenia what can I do to prevent such conditions ?how much should I take colic acid or omega3 per day?
Avatar f tn I am curious to this question, If someone does not have any family background of schizophrenia and they are the only 1% of the population that gets schizophrenia anyways, how can it be just genetic? This is depressing. How can they prove that a child has 30 40 or 60 percent chance of getting this disease? Because I sopposedly had schiz now I find out whether or not I have it I probably can't adopt and they say I should not have kids.
Avatar f tn If its not censored why are there words left out? I do not understand that.and ....idk does not make any since. Anyways have a good day. I thougt someone would know the answer cause this is one of the web sites where some people who know someone with the problem type to each other for support. Type in schiz where it says search medhelp and you will see. Have a good day.
