Hi,
My son has just come out of Intensive Care for the second time and has severe croup. I too am looking for answers. He has seen an ENT, cardiologist, respiratory specialist all with no answers. I can't sleep at night for fear of an attack. He is on pulmicort nebs twice a day, Intal forte, nasonex and maybe singulair if decided by drs this week. Any advice would be so welcomed.
How long does adrenaline last in the system? I had stridor 7 hours ago and rushed to hospital as I cannot have salbutamol. I had adrenaline IM and also nebulised. 7 Hours later my heart rate is still sitting at 120 at rest and I have tingling in my fingers and hands, waves on pain in my left chest (that I had at hospital nothing showed on ecg), and short of breath. Should I be worried????
I would like everyone to know about my son's cure for Vocal cord dysfuntion (stridor) and how doctors should at least give their patients an option in this direction. My son who was 13 at the time could not participate in any sport whatsoever without having an attack. After being misdiagnosed as having asthma, we went to a ENT specialist who correctly diagnosed him, but said he should just resign himself to being inactive. Wow -what a blow!
I have a 5yr old Daughter who has 's had various blood tests done to test for H-Pylori, Celiac, Gluten Allergy all came back NEG. Then she began vomitting and her food wasnt digesting properly so they did an EGD and they did a biopsy for H-Pylori and it was positive. That diagnosis hasnt been the answer to our prayers after 2 rounds of antibiotics and the new symptom of burning in her stomach she is going for another EGD on the 23rd. Maybe she should be tested for H-pylori?

I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:
"Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
In my experience, the anesthetic without epinephrine is shorter acting, but it's been plenty for me for fillings and if it wears off, they can just give you another shot, no problem. I wouldn't worry about that at all.
What you have is probably an expiratory stridor that occurs due to partial obstruction in the lower trachea or bronchi. Tracheomalacia is the most common cause of expiratory stridor. This can happen if there is external compression of the trachea or there is defective tracheal cartilage. The other possibility is a strong gastro esophageal reflux (GERD) which is felt as a sound during expiration. You need to consult an ENT surgeon and rule out the possibility of compression on trachea.
I have been blessed to have Mandy for 26 years but I dread that her remaining years will be filled with these episodes which are very hard to watch. I am desperate for any additional help you may offer and would even bring her to Vanderbuilt if need be.
Any help, advice you could give me and her doctors would be greatly appreciated.

There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
re at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Epinephrine is basically like adrenaline and for an adregenic afibber such as my self it is a definate no-no. I even have to ask for the Epi free form of novacaine at the dentist office.
I would definately see a Dr and tell him my contidions and see what they say.

Just ask to have a shot without it, and they will give it to you. They have to have these shots available (without epinephrine) for people who have serious heart problems, blood pressure problems when having high anxiety like some people have when they go to the dentist.
It is best to call her doctor on this one.
Is she coughing so hard she throws up?
Is her acid reflux well controlled?
Does she have a virus?
There are so many variables that a doctor really needs to assess the cause for effective treatment.

I had similar symptoms for years - the hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, terrible periods and some weight gain. I kept telling my doctor I felt like I was heading towards menopause. The blood test always came back normal. Even up to a few months before my last period, I was sure menopause was just around the corner. The blood test said everything was normal. I have ME/CFS and I hadnt seen the online warnings that for those of us with ME, anethestics with the epinephrine in them can be very bad and best avoided for those of us with this, so I found this out the hard way.
I didnt have any other pain relief except this lidocaine injection so my reaction was certainly from that. It caused me to have a near seizure or a seizure. My legs started majorly jerking, I started twitching all over.
