1565702 tn?1295292830 I am here to tell you that many, many people have stressful situations and they don't smoke. Using the stress level is a crutch and you're justifying your usage, and that's ok if you aren't going to quit. The fact is, the decision to smoke is yours.... you can choose to smoke or choose to not smoke. Help is available, but you have to want to quit, and you have to want help.... Stressful job, bills piling up, student loans, debts....
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.

Avatar f tn How bad is smoking while pregnant?
Avatar f tn My boyfriend and I have been TTC for going on 5 months now. We are both 19.. please don't judge. We are both ready and have been for a long time. I'm worried something may be wrong with me, because I've tried everything I have been able to find. From sex positions, to healthier living. We both have recently quit smoking as well. I've seen all these people around me get pregnant easy, and on accident.
Avatar f tn its sooo easy for a non smoker to say just quit..im a smoker I know. id never smoke around my kids or my young family members. it my burden not therez.
Avatar f tn Good for you I know some people who were pregnant that kept on smoking and doing things they shouldn't be doing you're doing awesome staying sober keep it up

4209753 tn?1351116064 My Doctor put a refural into the health unit that will come and councle me and give me a quit smoking kit but that can take up to a month. Can I have some suggestions on how to at least cut back before than?
Avatar f tn For me, ive been smoking since a very young age. Quit cold turkey when i found out i was pregnant and havent gone back on my decision. No, i didnt pick up a hobby, didnt ask god for help or any nonsense that is supposed to help. Seriously, youll never find something as satisfying as smoking. I love my baby, i loved her so much and i didnt want to force her to smoke just because i wanted to. The first month was hell of course.
1671473 tn?1450592437 m glad to hear that you want to stop smoking. Smoking is so bad for your health and such a bad example for young people around you. My own experience was to just quit one day and that was it. Not easy, but can be done. Of course the difficulty also depends on the type of cigarette and the amount you smoke as well. I'm sure you will get lots better information if you will go to this Forum. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Smoking-Addiction/show/159 Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Yes, you really should see a specialist if you haven't already. I agree 100% with Kathy Jo. It could also be something called Costochondritis which is the inflammation of the cartilage and bones in the chest wall. I've had this condition for about 5yrs since I took a bad fall on my chest. Pain and the urge to raise my arms and crack my chest all the time...it's uncomfortable. Let me tell you what, though.
Avatar f tn They need to explain you can and will live with this disease! What about the people who quit smoking 20yrs ago and find out they have copd. I do not understand. I agree Drs need to stop scaring people. My Dr didn't even tell me, the nurse told me over the phone...all she said was well try to stop smoking. I didn't think it was a big deal until I went on the internet. The internet is a very scarey place.........and its not good for certain people.
1262435 tn?1270311859 Persons with diagnosed CHD experience as much as a 50% reduction in risk of reinfarction, sudden cardiac death, and total mortality if they quit smoking after the initial infarction. Furthermore, the patient who has recently developed a clinical illness is very motivated to change, and several studies have shown that intervention in this "teachable moment" can be very effective.
Avatar f tn I'm not saying that. obviously its not good but its her decision to do what she wants. hearing everyone's experiences help. I'm sick of people downing people because they don't quit when the only know what "studies" say they don't know what real people have to say. smoking is completely up to what you want to do and yes there are risks but not to all. if you ask most doctors they will tell you what percent of children actually are affected.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn s more harm to the baby. I quit smoking when I found out, but my doctor did tell me that if you want to quit you should slowly get yourself off of them.
Avatar f tn Also never smoked in my life, so I admit that it puzzles me how it draws in people no matter how had they try to avoid/quit it. I have no advise besides, thinking of the end goal... A healthy child, and perhaps if it's any encouragement, if something was to happen to your child, you'd hate to blame yourself... all the best mamas... I can only imagine how hard it must be. But you can do it for the little bean that you can't wait to meet!
Avatar n tn Keep encouraging him to quit smoking-it does work eventually in many cases. I recommend going to the surgeon general's website on smoking and looking under some of the clinician's guidelines. Many are easy to read for the average person and give practical suggestions to help people quit (such as asking them what are some things they don't like about smoking, what are some things they feel may get in the way of quitting, what are some personal benefits to quitting, ect.).
784382 tn?1376931040 s anything wrong with smoking pot, but you still have the act of inhaling something in your lungs everyday which makes it hard to stay quit with cigs. I was a pot smoker too. Quit almost 3mos ago. Smoking pot led me to fail my quit each and every time.
Avatar n tn Smoking is extremely addictive, but there are certain things we do for our kid that are very hard, and one of them is being pregnant, taking care of our bodies while pregnant and nursing (and I am not even talking about giving birth!). That is only the start of a difficult life of a parent. So, let me give you the facts that you probably already know, but they are important to repeat. Smoking while pregnant will: Lower the amount of oxygen and nutrient available your growing baby.
Avatar n tn Your so young. Smoking is really bad for u and I think u should try and quit if u can't try smoking maybe one a day instead of a pack a day.
Avatar m tn IF you lived here all your life, that can be a factor. Great you quit smoking! I really hope for both of us that the next scan is unchanged. I am sorry about your mom. Good luck to you as well!
