127596 tn?1210922622 Hey, everyone. I hope all is well. I quit smoking two weeks ago. It was one of a series of actions I've recently taken to lose weight. I always thought quitting smoking would be one of the last things I would do in my quest to shed some pounds - but this time around, it seemed like the sensible to thing to do. I quit smoking because I bought a bike and realized I couldn't bike very far without gasping and wheezing like my grandmother in the morning before her first Marlboro.

Avatar n tn I smoked for 2 years. I know not a long time but this is how I quit. Ok I started just smoking half then I'd go down to a half of a half. I also chewed gum everytime id get an urge. And I wouldn't smoke that first one in the mornings. Id wait as long as I could then smoke. You could try eating sunflower seeds too. Hope that helps. Good luck! Princess.

Avatar f tn m not a smoker but, When my mom quit smoking she did what my grandpa always said to do If you have a sore throat. It sounds nasty but my mom says works! And I know it works for a sore throat. You drink a tablespoon of vinegar and then right after a tablespoon of honey then drink plenty of water. The vinegar kills bacteria in your throat while the honey soothes it. Hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn my sister quit while pregnant by imaging her baby smoking. I dont know how helpful that will be for you, I would say ask your doctor, they will usually have info on how to quit or get help quitting.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking 5 days ago and I am feeling like my breathing is somewhat shallow. Also, my lungs feel like they are being squeezed, I dont really know any other way to describe it. Also, in my upper back area, pretty much opposite my lungs, hurts as well. Is all of these symptoms normal for quitting smoking? I havent started the horrible coughing stage yet but my lungs do feel like stuff is loosening in them. Sort of like bronchitis. Does anyone know when that will start as well?
1262435 tn?1270311859 Persons with diagnosed CHD experience as much as a 50% reduction in risk of reinfarction, sudden cardiac death, and total mortality if they quit smoking after the initial infarction. Furthermore, the patient who has recently developed a clinical illness is very motivated to change, and several studies have shown that intervention in this "teachable moment" can be very effective.
Avatar f tn I started smoking when I was about 10, quit when I was 50. Got a carton for my 13th birthday. One of the 50 times I quit smoking I was sitting there wearing a patch on each arm, chewing a piece of Nicorette, puffing on a Marlboro all at the same time. It's rough!! It finally took. What bothered me the most at first was people smoking, but I made an oath that I would never be a reformed smoker that looks down their nose at smokers. One of the times I failed we went to the Casino.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking the day after i found out too. I was a smoker for 5 years until september when i found out i having a baby. To me its all in the mind, and you have to be strong and know that you dont need it , its bad for you and your baby. My husband helped me get thru it , my baby my family is too important to me than a cigarette. Just remind yourself that your strong , you dont need it, its all in the mind. Whats in the heart is what matters.
427279 tn?1210919821 Well, obviously I want you to quit smoking, just as much as I would like to quit, but I have "heard" of some pretty serious side effects from that stuff....One being major depression....Did you read up on it or talk to the doc about it? Honestly, I did start taking it a few months back and by the end of the first week I stopped because I was having certain "thoughts" that I have never had....I didn't like that feeling at all....
Avatar n tn It's tough, I'm 16 weeks, 4th pregnancy, and I know I will get s*** for this but haven't been able to quit, not with any pregnancy. Have cut down to one sometimes 2 real cigarettes a day and and e-cigarette here and there throughout the day. Both my primary and ob agree that since I can't quit quit, and I was a pack or more depending on the day smoker that it's ok to do what I'm doing. All of my baby's were born full term, healthy, and healthy weight.
Avatar f tn My experience may not be quite accurate as I quit smoking weed as well so it wasn't just nicotine I was dealing with. I am also a poor sleeper and Never sleep through the night, but once I quit smoking, I would say it took maybe 2wks to notice I was sleeping much better than I ever did when I WAS smoking. And that's the SHORT answer LOL.
Avatar f tn On ur quest to quit smoking. Tea tree oil chewing sticks and black licorice root (which can be purchased at a health store) help greatly to calm the urges to smoke. It can take 8 min for the strongest urge to subside. Chew on a black licorice root, don't hang out with ppl who smoke for awhile. Find out what ur triggers are and replace them with new, healthier habbits. And most of all, don't feel guilty if u relapse, u can always try again. Dev new coping methods.
Avatar m tn then she started smoking again in 2001, needless to say after not wanting any, being around her for a couple yrs smoking it reawoke my smoking disease. So, smoked on and off in 2003, quit for 2004. Then she died in 2005 not from smoking at 41. So I felt justified to bury my grief in cigs. since then i have struggled on and off. even stopped for 2.5 months after surgeries and started again each time. Now back to one or 5 a day or none for a few days, but it keeps coming back.
Avatar n tn I wanted to learn how to cope with the anxiety and depression, which I know is related to my menstral cycle, but all the therapist appears interested in is the marijuanna addiction. I know smoking pot also causes anxiety and depression, but that is not what is suddenly causing my to be unable to function. I want to quit pot as well, but if I try when I am this emotionally unstable I know it won't work.
315 tn?1230998574 s a TOTAL health issue now. You want the chemo to work, so just quit smoking and you will be SO THANKFUL you did! I quit 29 years ago. I can't say it was easy, but it was not impossible. I put them down and never picked them up again. I can't stand to be around cigarette smoke now. It literally makes me sick. You have my best wishes. Enjoy your chemo break.
784382 tn?1376931040 s anything wrong with smoking pot, but you still have the act of inhaling something in your lungs everyday which makes it hard to stay quit with cigs. I was a pot smoker too. Quit almost 3mos ago. Smoking pot led me to fail my quit each and every time.
