Avatar f tn As with other neuroleptic drugs, a symptom complex sometimes referred to as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) has been reported. Cardinal features of NMS are hyperpyrexia, muscle rigidity, altered mental status (including catatonic signs), and evidence of autonomic instability (irregular pulse or blood pressure). Additional signs may include elevated CPK, myoglobinuria (rhabdomyolysis) and acute renal failure.
Avatar m tn The syndrome has a characteristic picture but can be mistaken for other illneses in some patients, particularly those with neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Treatment consists of discontinuing medications which may contribute and in moderate to severe cases administering a serotonin antagonist. An important adjunct treatment includes controlling agitation with benzodiazepine sedation.
Avatar f tn Hello verna2 Tardive Dyskinesia is a neurological syndrome caused by the long-term use of neuroleptic drugs. Neuroleptic drugs are generally prescribed for psychiatric disorders, as well as for some gastrointestinal and neurological disorders. Tardive Dyskinesia is also sometimes referred to as: Linguofacial Dyskinesia, Oral-facial Dyskinesia, TD, Tardive Dystonia and Tardive Oral Dyskinesia. Have you been on any of these medications?
Avatar m tn Tardive dyskinesia is a neurological syndrome caused by the long-term use of neuroleptic drugs. Neuroleptic drugs are generally prescribed for psychiatric disorders, as well as for some gastrointestinal and neurological disorders. Tardive dyskinesia is characterized by repetitive, involuntary, purposeless movements. Features of the disorder may include grimacing, tongue protrusion, lip smacking, puckering and pursing, and rapid eye blinking.
Avatar f tn The combination of Savella and methadone can theoretically cause an increased risk of serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome, but the chance of that is quite remote. Have you had any symptoms of it? Mild symptoms may include increased temperature and heart rate, shivering, sweating, dilated pupils and intermittent tremors or twitching. It can also become severe and sometimes life threatening.
Avatar f tn I got alarmed because they say if you have this then you should stop the meds at once as one might have developed malignant neuroleptic syndrome. I got very alarmed and phoned my psychiatrist who said this syndrome comes with fever. I took a pill of benzo and it stopped so he said it could be anxiety. I am very aware of the side effects of what i am taking but many if not all the drugs do too.
Avatar m tn Monitor patients for risk of suicidality. Screening for bipolar disorder; serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)-like reactions; abnormal bleeding; hyponatremia; activation of mania/hypomania; diabetes; discontinuation of treatment.
Avatar f tn It talks about abnormal muscle movements, uncontrolled spasms, depression and thoughts about suicide, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and Parkinsonism... It also says that I might go through withdrawls once off the meds or have life lasting side effects when it comes to the spasms... On the back of the print out it clearly states, "tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
520191 tn?1355635402 You can but it increases the risk of developing neuroleptic malignant syndrome or tardive dyskinesia as well as other things such as diabetes. Antipsychotics I've heard so far are usually only prescribed for mania or anxiety in terms of mood disturbances or as an adjunct to an antidepressant if one has treatment resistant depression or something of the like.
Avatar f tn It is therefore indicative of injury, rhabdomyolysis, myocardial infarction, muscular dystrophy, myositis, myocarditis, malignant hyperthermia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. It is also seen in McLeod syndrome and hypothyroidism. The use of statin medications, which are commonly used to decrease serum cholesterol levels, may be associated with elevation of the CPK level in about 1% of the patients taking these medications, and with actual muscle damage in a much smaller proportion”.
Avatar n tn While it would be uncommon, there are some published reports that tardive dyskinesia can develop after a single use. The other major concern is neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). You can Google each of those to read about them. It's difficult to speculate here, as you don't know what the dosage was, or what else it may have been combined with. The antidote for Risperidone-induced EPS is an anticholinergic.
449440 tn?1206887304 Hello. Prozac will not help for the OCD. It is only an antidepressant. I suspect the depression has come after the OCD. In most cases, the depression in OCD is a reactive depression. You treat the OCD effectively and you have treated the depression. Fluvoxamine is a good option for you to consider for the OCD. It is recommended for co-existent OCD and Trourette's syndrome. Addition of a dopamine antagonist (Neuroleptic) helps.

460830 tn?1347219306 I went to this MedHelp site and was told what probably happened was that the combination of the two drugs probably caused her to get Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. I read also that NMS can be caused from otherr drugs, such as Phenergan & Reglan; that really shocked me, because in at least my last 2 surgeries: hysterectomy in 2001 and Right mandibular salivary gland removal in 2002, I was given Phenergan and Reglan just before surgery! Scary, huh?!
1052851 tn?1307741160 My GP switched me over to Zeldox, as I was gaining weight rapidly on Quetiapine, however the side effects from Zeldox, such as not being able to sleep, vomitting, feeling like my throat was closing, shakes, dizziness, severe heart palpatations, I got off the Zeldox and went back on the Quetiapine. What is the ingrediant in Zeldox that would cause these hyper side effects?
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm just trying to do some research for my friend ... She's been on Quetiapine (an atypical antipsychotic) for about 2yrs, but previous to this she was diagnosed with borderline hypothyroidism. Suddenly, she has fallen really ill and blood tests have confirmed minor hypothyroidism (T3 levels around 9)... but the symptoms look like hyper!

Avatar m tn Pills are long gone although people have been pressuring me in recent times to go back on them. I was doing some further research and a lot of the effects of the drug on me seem similar or closely related to Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, the drug would make me very weak and fatigued and I'd be put to sleep almost immediately, I could hardly walk to bed once it went into effect.
