1052851 tn?1307741160 And I will add that schizoaffective disorder is schizophrenia with a mood disorder which in my case is bipolar. In schizoaffective disorder a person experiences psychosis all the time whereas in bipolar with psychotic features it is only during moodswings. You could ask your psychiatrist more about it and we have some websites linked up for information. One that's not linked up that you could find some clinically accurate information on in addition to Medhelp is Schizophrenia.
Avatar m tn Antipsychotics control mania just because they can. Anticonvulsants work because they discovered bipolar disorder is a chronic inflammation in the brain that prevents uptake of omega 3 which explains why people with bipolar disorder benefit from taking doses of it.
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hi there - Thanks for the suggestion. Seroquel is an anti-psychotic medication, so feel free to use the anti-psychotic meds value on the tracker to track your use of Seroquel.
Avatar m tn Hi Tammy, seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic and is often prescribed for bipolar disorder to address psychotic symptoms and for it's mood stabilising properties mainly antimanic, although it also has some anti-depressant effects. It is also prescribed for other things such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, GAD or severe insomnia (because of the sedation, and in smaller doses). It can be sedating at first, but usually this lessens as you get use to it.
Avatar n tn God bless you for reaching out to us. I was finally diagnosed last month at the age of 49 with Bipolar Disorder II and Ehlers-Danlos Hypermobility type. Throughout my life I knew things weren't "right" but forged ahead anyway. I was so fortunate and blessed to have found a husband who was so calm and peaceful, he let me do my things but would rope me back in and encourage me to find the true issue. The most important thing is to remember that you are not alone!
Avatar m tn Was it for depression or bipolar or schizophrenia? Unfortunately, while those medications do often work well for the disorder, they do often have sexual side effects. Not for everyone but that doesn't matter since it happened to you. Have you talked to your doctor about it? You could talk to your psychiatrist that prescribed them or your primary care doctor both. I'm sure this is really frustrating. What's hard to understand here though is the drug is long gone from your system.
Avatar f tn last year the baby i was 33wks preg with was stillborn, i called him marcus after that i fell into deep depression understanably i think, then was diagnosed with bpd, and put on quetiapine and sertraline, i have been trying to get preg since sept 2010 but nothing has happened, when i got preg with marcus it only took 2 months and i wasn't on any drugs of any kind, now i'm wondering if the drugs i am on now are affecting my fertility?
Avatar f tn I have just weaned off quetiapine slowly under medical supervision due to physical decline in health. I have been off it now completely for 2 days and have not slept at all since. I also have nausea and vomiting. But my question is how long until I will be able to get to sleep again? I am Bipolar 2 and am worried about getting unwell without sleep. All I have read says it could be 1-2 weeks. How does one manage this with a mood disorder and with trying to work etc??
Avatar f tn I don’t have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder so I don’t believe I should be on this medication to begin with but I know I am on a very low-dose. As well I have been on clonazepam for 14 years, 2mg in the morning and two at night. I have tapered myself off of the clonazepam so I’m down 0.25 mg at night and one in the morning. I really want to come off of the quetapine and I was wondering how to start coming off of it?
Avatar f tn Does anyone find serequel/quetiapine is helpful within stabilising there moods.. My psych keeps going on about it as bein helpful but I never found it helpful with my mood swings, but wondered if it was just a dose thing? She's reluctant to put me on moOd stabilisers because im a big overdose risk apparently.. Advice?
Avatar f tn Remember that leaving your bipolar untreated also has risks and side effects, like the fact that death by suicide is pretty high in bipolar disorder. So with meds, you go for whatever option ***** the least (and you can add treatments to deal with side effects, like taking fiber supplements for constipation that comes with some meds). And every med on earth has side effects.
Avatar m tn ve been taking quetiapine and lamotrigine to treat bipolar disorder for about 1.5 years. My doctor says the cause of my dysfunction is that I have low sex drive, and it makes sense. Is there any suggestion?
1052851 tn?1307741160 I recently switched over from Quetiapine to Zeldox, as I had gained 30lbs in 2 mths with the Quetiapine, and this was affecting my self confidence, as well as not being able to fit into my jeans. I studied up on Zeldox, and it was promoted to give you the benefits of Quetiapine, but with minimal weight gain, so after discussing it with my Dr., I thought I would give it a try. The first month, I could not sleep.
574118 tn?1305135284 //www.psychiatrictimes.com/bipolar-disorder/content/article/10168/46826. It put the ends at MDD and Bipolar I... schizophrenia was not mentioned. Schizophrenia is not a mood disorder and will not be included in bipolar spectrum disorder, should that ever come to pass. The spectrum refers to sub-threshold bipolar within the MDD-BP I range. I googled wave theory bipolar and the ONLY thing in psychiatry I found was your post. All other entries were about engineering.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I am currently on 200mg Quetiapine and 30mg Cipralex in the morning. 100mg Quetiapine at noon, and 300mg Quetiapine at night, along with 50mg Clonazapam. I tried taking Zeldox, as I gained a lot of weight from the Quetiapine, but the Dr. made it an add on and kept me on the Quetiapine as well. I had very bad side effects, and got off the Zeldox immediately. I told my doctor about it, and she changed the Zeldox, which was 80mg daily to Abilify, which I take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at noon.
1748829 tn?1338037041 Patients with a history of major depression or significant depressive symptoms including history of suicide attempts, or bipolar disorder or psychosis, should be referred for expert psychiatric diagnosis and management prior to treatment initiation.
Avatar n tn I have bipolar and I've been on antipsychotics (quetiapine) for 5 years and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I've tried to stop taking them previously and I can't sleep at all and my moods and emotions goes pretty crazy which also affects my relationship very negatively. I have spoken to my doctor but he didn't really help me much. I really don't want the pills to hurt my baby. Does anyone have any experience or advise regarding this please?
644988 tn?1236364548 Update. Hi. My dissociative moments have receded and I've ha a week or so of being in agood mood and really productive; more so than for over a year. I increased my bedtime dose of quetiapine but found I was feeling "wired" with irritability and anger in the afternoons/evenings. My sleeps are short (five to six hours at the moment despite the increased quetiapine). In view of this, I've re-added a morning dose of quetiapine and now things seem better..

574118 tn?1305135284 Hi, sorry if some of what I wrote was repeated but I'm using my phone instead of a laptop. and it's a nightmare it has a mind of it's own but I still can't bring myself to get my laptop (I know, lazy ;-D) I was given Cod fish oils by the Maudsley hospital, London a psychiatric teaching hospital. They were part of a recent study and they asked if I was willing to try them as they can have mood stabilizing qualitys when used in bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I have Bipolar, but for a while I have been stable (as much as I think you can be), but I have horrific tiredness. I'm 20, was diagnosed with BP 2 years ago, and I've had this fatigue since I was about 14. Every single day I am tired, although it obviously varies from bearable to completely debilitating. The fatigue affects literally everything in my life; I'm not able to do anything I want to do and I can't get a job.
