676912 tn?1332812551 I am going to, in the end, do what I feel most comforatble with, but I'm just trying to get opinions from other people. My son had a hard time when we moved last year when I was still pregnant, and I know what he went through, of course that doesn't mean that my daughter will be the same way.
Avatar f tn but is it too early to start pumping at 4 months
Avatar f tn By pump do you mean pumping breast milk? The first liquid that comes out of the breast is colostrum not milk which is vital in aiding a healthy strong immune system in new borns.
Avatar f tn t latch so i suggest setting yours up before your milk comes in and start pumping once it does come in because the stuff that comes in before your milk is very important for baby to have so just let baby nurse until your milk is in then pump
Avatar f tn Recent information I've read (from WIC) encourages you to wait until 6 weeks after baby is born to start breast pumping. They say otherwise it interfers with milk production and bonding with baby since they'll prefer the bottle over your own breasts.
Avatar n tn Its not breast milk that she's getting. Its colostrum. Which is the first thing the baby will eat after birth until your milk supply comes in.
Avatar f tn t come in until a few days after baby is born so right bow all you would produce is small amounts of colostrum, while colostrum is good for baby, pumping before delivery can send the message to your brain that this is all the milk you need to produce and even after your milk comes in your body will still have that message that you don't need that much and increasing your supply will be very difficult.
8489354 tn?1405627762 I ended up donating all the extra milk to a local group, but it was a pain to have to pump all the time in addition to nursing so I wouldn't end up with an infection.
14975014 tn?1437675913 If you pump before birth then your body is going to make real milk. But you don't want to give your baby that milk from the start. They need the colostrum first. It gives them the antibodies and protein they need plus it's gentle enough for their digestive system. They need that for a few days and when your real milk comes in, your baby is ready for it.
Avatar f tn When did you ladies start lactating? And if you start early before the baby is here should you pump? Or no?
Avatar f tn That's why they say to use nipple stimulation to help start labor. So pumping would be like nipple stimulation on crack lol! Your welcome hun!
Avatar n tn I have actually heard to start pumping right away and you can even start before the baby is born. It doesn't ruin your supply if you start pumping early.
Avatar n tn when did you guys start breast pumping?
Avatar f tn When you pump you pump into the bottles attached to the pump and pour the colostrum/milk into storage bags or whatever you chose to store your milk in.
7058746 tn?1393435420 Its only colostrum at this stage, milk doesn't come in until after the baby is born. It can't hurt to pump and save though as colostrum is very important. Just be careful as pumping can cause contractions so if you feel any twinges to stop.
9842459 tn?1411688168 You should pump straight away an feed the very small amount of colostrum to your baby it is liquid gold.

Avatar f tn Milk won't even come in until a few days after birth :). You'll have PLENTY of time to pump and freeze.

7845638 tn?1395841467 Yeah once your baby is born start pumping & trying to breastfeed so that your breasts can get familiar with their new job. I had a lactation specialist at hand. So i know what I'm telling you.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of pumping beforehand.. ?? Im curious as to why you would want to? To build up stock in your freezer is all I can guess? I was always told and read that Baby should get the colestrum first, it has all the antibodies in it. Is that going to be just as potent thawed out?? Sorry for all the questions when you're the one asking to start with!!! This is just totally new to me...?!!?
