Pumping breast milk to start labor

Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk to start labor

milk

Avatar f tn By pump do you mean pumping breast milk? The first liquid that comes out of the breast is colostrum not milk which is vital in aiding a healthy strong immune system in new borns.
Avatar f tn That's why they say to use nipple stimulation to help start labor. So pumping would be like nipple stimulation on crack lol! Your welcome hun!
Avatar f tn I would not recommend pumping before your milk supply comes after the baby is born it could cause you to go into preterm labor. I'm having my second and after my first I never stopped lactating even when I stopped breastfeeding. I still would leak collosum (don't know if that is spelled right) especially when he would cry.
Avatar n tn when did you guys start breast pumping?
Avatar f tn but is it too early to start pumping at 4 months
14975014 tn?1437675913 If you pump before birth then your body is going to make real milk. But you don't want to give your baby that milk from the start. They need the colostrum first. It gives them the antibodies and protein they need plus it's gentle enough for their digestive system. They need that for a few days and when your real milk comes in, your baby is ready for it.
Avatar f tn Im at 35+4 and my milk has been in for a little over a month. I was planning to start pumping so I would have a good supply established by the time my LO arrives. Also I'm having a tubal and from what I've read on here the recovery is anywhere from 5-10 days. If I'm down/on paid killers I won't be able to give my LO that milk so I was thinking to already have some frozen so others can feed him for me.
Avatar f tn Thats weird because my doctor said nipple stimulation and breast Pumping provokes contractions because your body releases a hormone that causes contractions. I was just breast Pumping the other night and i started to get contractions.
Avatar f tn Don't start pumping until after you have your baby and your milk comes in
Avatar f tn I was told to pump my breasts to jump start labor. I am a ftm. I am worried because I heard that your milk won't come on correctly if you pump before the baby is born. Can anyone who has pumped before birth tell me their experience? I really would love to breast feed and I don't want to mess anything up.
Avatar f tn t come in until after you give birth. Pumping can lead to labor due to nipple stimulation. Not sure about freezing the colostrum :) I would consult with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Might want to ask a doctor this could make you go in to labor .
8489354 tn?1405627762 s have to work for the milk when nursing and bottle feeding is no work and they get frustrated n refuse breast if u start too early. However, I did start pumping after 2 weeks to help my milk supply increase. I just waited after 30 days to introduce bottle.
Avatar f tn If it is your first and you pump prior to birth it can cause mastitis, which will not allow you to breastfeed for your first or any after. AFTER the birth of your first it does no harm bc your body is already producing real milk and not colostrum. Pre-birth is just colustrum anyway. My bfs sister got mastitis bc she wanted to prepump beford her first was born. She dis not listen to her doctors advice and she says she has missed out on so much she feels.
Avatar n tn Pumping before the baby is born can cause preterm labor you are not suppose to pump till after your baby is born
Avatar f tn The only thing that I could think of it complicating is that when it gets close to your babies due date the nipple stimulation could bring on labor. Just to be safe I would ask your Dr.
Avatar f tn You will start producing colostrum immediately after labor. Its best to get baby nursing within the first hour of birth to get skin to skin bonding time going and get milk production flowing. It takes about 3-4 days for your milk to start flowing. It also helps if You're pumping on a strict schedule. That'll help your milk come in faster.
7385294 tn?1412105739 Well what you might be pumping is the "pre-milk" which I can't think of the name for it right now. And the baby really only drinks that until your milk supply comes in, hours/days after birth. I don't think your actual breast milk will come from pumping? So I don't know if there's an actual point to it (you might have to Google that) Nipple stimulation has been known to bring in contractions, and causing labor in the long run. Just do whatever you want to do.
Avatar f tn Oh and she is only 38 weeks 2 days
7498971 tn?1391425105 t really get anything out of your breasts before then and it can cause preterm labor. Once baby is born and you start pumping you can use breastmilk storage bags to keep milk in.
Avatar f tn Has anyone expressed and frozen colustrum before? I want to start pumping to donate breast milk for my friend's twins who are in the NICU. I'm due in 3 weeks but they need it now. I want to give my baby my colustrum to help her immune system get the best start possible since we live abroad in a place that has tropical diseases, so I'm wondering if anyone has done this.
Avatar f tn Thanks that actually made me,feel better, :)
Avatar f tn t come in until a few days after baby is born so right bow all you would produce is small amounts of colostrum, while colostrum is good for baby, pumping before delivery can send the message to your brain that this is all the milk you need to produce and even after your milk comes in your body will still have that message that you don't need that much and increasing your supply will be very difficult.
Avatar f tn You are going to cause your self so many issues pumping while pregnant. You can start premature labor. You can mess up your milk supply. Your body doesn't produce the hormones to let your milk down until two or three days after baby is born. Those first days of nursing are to teach you and baby how to adjust and learn together. There is absolutely no reason to pump now.
Avatar n tn Pumping needs to be done every 2 hours to be effective for milk production. The expression of milk or colostrum can start labor so you should be careful.
