Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk ounces per feeding

milk

Avatar m tn Hi ladies, my milk came in yesterday, quite a lot I made add and I have been pumping ever since. Brandon is being lazy again and not latching on as much as I'd like to. Do you all think I will eventually dry up if I dont continue to latch him on? I have never breastfeed so I am not to experience on this. My mom keeps telling me I wont I as long as I continue to pump regularly. Everytime I pump I get like 2-3 onces per breast. Is that good enough?
Avatar f tn Breastfeeding class is wrong, you should do one breast per feeding. It helps regulate milk production better letting them do one side at a time.
Avatar f tn I am planning on breast feeding abd know i wil have to pump when I go back to work . My question is what kind of bottles are best to use with a breast feeding baby. My huband and I are at a lost for this information. Hope that I can actually breast feed. My mom and sister couldnt dont know if that makes a differnce or not.
Avatar n tn If we are pumping breast milk how many ounces should she have per feeding? How long should we let her nurse on sore nipples and still get enough to eat? Our doctor told us to give two ounces of formula. she weighs 7.5 pounds. 8 days old.
3588173 tn?1357317184 Im sorry for all the breast milk questions but the breast feeding forum is hardly as active as this one. Ive been pumping every 3-4 hours n get about 2 oz give or take from each side per session.
1124862 tn?1303850973 You're feeding first and STILL pumping an additional 4 ounces after every feeding? I'm barley filling my 2.5 ounce tube when I pump after her feeding, and that's pumping both. Now I'm worried after reading all of your posts. Guess I need to step it up on the water and oatmeal, which I'm already having plenty of every day. The other problem I'm having is when I pump after, twice when I've gone back to feed her, there wasn't enough there for her to get full...
Avatar f tn I ask because I never got even three ounces out of a breast when pumping, despite the fact that my son seemed to get more out of me at a given feeding.
2106256 tn?1340814698 it depends my sister pumped straight away n got very painful breasts so she gave up altogther i breast fed on demand untill my baby was 4 weeks then started pumping but it was very tiring do whats bet for you
1210716 tn?1297620883 So my daughter is practically 5 months old now and is starting to take herself off breastmilk. She actually turns away from me when I go to feed her. I've started pumping and giving her milk in a bottle during the day so I can monitor how much she is drinking, and figure out "why" she wants to drink because alot of the time with me if she did breastfeed it would only be for like 1 to 2 minutes before she would pull away.
362119 tn?1223137936 Am I understanding that you are pumping 2-3 ounces of milk/day in "addition" to the milk you produce when nursing? Yes, it WILL get easier as your milk supply increases over the coming weeks. What kind of pump are you using? I recommend you rent a hospital-grade electric pump - this will help extract the most milk possible and will help to increase your milk supply (some of the cheaper pumps or a manual pump will yield noticeably less milk).
639543 tn?1297027634 I started feeding Dameon straight from my breast, then DH decided he wanted to be able to feed him too, so I pumped, and he was able to feed him. It turns out the baby has gotten used to ONLY taking a bottle, because it's easier, not to mention my boobs are so full of milk all the time, it flattens my nipples and he has no nipple to latch onto.
2021990 tn?1398838140 Try pumping when you give birth, if your having a hard time at least then you won't dry out and you can still feed your baby just a little breast milk & still give him formula.
689528 tn?1364135841 I had the same problem! And to anyone who's babies are spitting up breast milk and not formula- don't give up breast milk completely! My son is doing this also and from what I've read its because breast milk is thinner and easier to spit up than formula. Basically I decided instead of completely throwing in the towel and quitting breast milk altogether, I'm just pumping 3 times a day now and feeding him breast milk 3 times.
Avatar f tn i can only get about 2 ounces after 30 min, but i just started pumping today....
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how many oz of breast milk a newborn should get in each feeding ?
2863077 tn?1436670789 Okay ladies, my daughter will be 2 months old on Monday, I am just wondering how many ounces should she be eating? She eats strictly breast milk if that changes anything. Thank you!
9020620 tn?1409884412 My baby sleeps alot so im worried if he isnt getting enough milk. I been pumping milk and he eats about 8- 10 ounces of Milk to calculate how many ounces his getting a day. .do you think thats enough??
11133727 tn?1417112793 i pumped 2 ounces which is what baby eats and on a good day i could pump 4 ounces yet it is pumping both breast and mixing them together. but my son has seemed fine :) i should pump more often but im lazy :p.. i will work on that.
3588173 tn?1357317184 Alright looks like I will be setting a couple alarms during the night to pump.
Avatar f tn Alcohol is metabolized out of the blood (and breast milk) at a rate of about.25 ounces per hour. So as long as you have only one drink and wait 3-4 hours to breastfeed, there is no need to pump and dump.
341551 tn?1266980730 Gina.....I was totally for breast feeding when I was pregnant....and it was so hard for her to get the hang of it while we were in the hospital.....she did finally get it..but favored one side....and I never knew what she was getting and if I was producing enough for her.... Once we got home..its like she lost the concept of latching and gave up...
Avatar f tn So I was planning on breast feeding but I have NO BREAST MILK has this happened to any one else .
Avatar f tn Jake is now 9lbs and takes 3 to 4 ozs per feeding (7-8 times per day). I am now pumping about 4 bottles per day, breast feeding twice and supplementing with 1 or 2 bottles of formula at night. He is an "inefficient" feeder so he was taking almost an hour to breast feed but was fast with the bottle which is what led me to continue pumping and bottle feeding - and the pain of breast feeding OMG.
10720243 tn?1415582269 Nothing has been more depressing than going from making 10-12oz on average to barely pumping 4oz. My baby is only 2 weeks old. I don't understand how my milk supply has run out so fast. I want to cry. I am mostly pumping because my daughter has the hardest time latching. And bottle feeding is a lot easier due to schedules. Do any of you already moms have any tips to up your milk production?
362119 tn?1223137936 is it still normal for him to sleep most of the day?? also....I am breast feeding and was wondering about alcohol and feeding him... is it safe for a small amout? lets say.. one glass of wine?
2129193 tn?1342539411 If you only breastfeed once a day you have a higher chance of losing milk production all together.. Your bony makes as much milk as baby drinks breast feeding is how you keep milk production up.. So stay hydrated and breastfeed as much as you can..
