Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk ounces

milk

362119 tn?1223137936 Am I understanding that you are pumping 2-3 ounces of milk/day in "addition" to the milk you produce when nursing? Yes, it WILL get easier as your milk supply increases over the coming weeks. What kind of pump are you using? I recommend you rent a hospital-grade electric pump - this will help extract the most milk possible and will help to increase your milk supply (some of the cheaper pumps or a manual pump will yield noticeably less milk).
9020620 tn?1409884412 My baby sleeps alot so im worried if he isnt getting enough milk. I been pumping milk and he eats about 8- 10 ounces of Milk to calculate how many ounces his getting a day. .do you think thats enough??
3588173 tn?1357317184 Alright looks like I will be setting a couple alarms during the night to pump.
Avatar f tn i can only get about 2 ounces after 30 min, but i just started pumping today....
Avatar f tn Does stress make your milk supply decrease? I have been under lots of stress and the past few days I'm barely getting 2 ounces out when I pump vs. the 5-8 ounces I usually get. Does stress have anything to do with this?? I don't want to have to give little man formula...
Avatar f tn A baby stops drinking breast milk when there full...usually the breast produce according to how muxh they eat. I used to pump my breast milk to make sure its all out so that you continue producing...and also pump the breast that the baby didnt eat from to prevent engulgement...it can hurt like hell lol. It takes time and practice but have fun...eat healthy and drink lots of water. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn If we are pumping breast milk how many ounces should she have per feeding? How long should we let her nurse on sore nipples and still get enough to eat? Our doctor told us to give two ounces of formula. she weighs 7.5 pounds. 8 days old.
Avatar f tn t eat from. While pumping massage and compress toward your nipple to help get most of the milk out. Also remember If you aren't pumping much don't worry because a pump isn't and indicator of how much milk you are making the baby is more efficient. Start freezing as soon as you pump or when you get up to 2 ounces. Breast fed babies only need 1 ounce per hour or 2 every 2hrs. 24ozs in a 24hr time period. A good pumping schedule is every 2 hours during the day and 3hrs at night.
Avatar m tn Hi ladies, my milk came in yesterday, quite a lot I made add and I have been pumping ever since. Brandon is being lazy again and not latching on as much as I'd like to. Do you all think I will eventually dry up if I dont continue to latch him on? I have never breastfeed so I am not to experience on this. My mom keeps telling me I wont I as long as I continue to pump regularly. Everytime I pump I get like 2-3 onces per breast. Is that good enough?
Avatar f tn So I was planning on breast feeding but I have NO BREAST MILK has this happened to any one else .
Avatar f tn t the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....
3588173 tn?1357317184 Im sorry for all the breast milk questions but the breast feeding forum is hardly as active as this one. Ive been pumping every 3-4 hours n get about 2 oz give or take from each side per session.
Avatar f tn Drink LOTS of water, breastfeed and pump frequently- If pumping, each session will bring you fewer ounces, but with the extra pumping sessions each day, the total ounces should Increase each day. I also heard that Fenugreek and Mother's Milk Tea helps produce more as well.
639543 tn?1297027634 It's very normal to be engorged for the first few weeks after your milk comes in, it will slow down once your body knows how much it needs to produce. I agree with tired, take advantage of the good supply, stock up while you can!!
Avatar f tn Put her to the breast more often. What makes you think you aren't making enough?
10720243 tn?1415582269 Nothing has been more depressing than going from making 10-12oz on average to barely pumping 4oz. My baby is only 2 weeks old. I don't understand how my milk supply has run out so fast. I want to cry. I am mostly pumping because my daughter has the hardest time latching. And bottle feeding is a lot easier due to schedules. Do any of you already moms have any tips to up your milk production?
Avatar f tn Also, when I pumped I would have to look at a picture of my baby in order for my milk to let down. Go buy mothers milk tea it has that fenugreek or whatever it's called to help lactation. Also try to get in touch with your local La Leche League. Breastfeeding can be tiring at first but you will get the hang of it! You are still a good mama cow!! And I had mastitis after my first pregnancy. It blocked my ducts and I had to have the infection cut out.
Avatar f tn I ask because I never got even three ounces out of a breast when pumping, despite the fact that my son seemed to get more out of me at a given feeding.
6337597 tn?1396556014 Cabbage relieves the pain. Put it in your bra. It stinks but it works I'm told.
1209036 tn?1299178657 00, 3:00, 6:00. I would like to be able to pump at least 3-4 ounces each session so I do not have to supplment at all!!!
Avatar f tn Pumping is not a good indication of how much milk you are producing. Pumps never do as good a job as baby. If you have a baby scale you could weigh baby before and after to get a more accurate idea of how much he's getting.
Avatar f tn If it's formula, they usually have you start at 2oz and work it up as baby gets older and hungrier. If your baby is bigger, they may want 3oz to begin with. Not sure if it's different for pumping and breast milk though.
1210716 tn?1297620883 So my daughter is practically 5 months old now and is starting to take herself off breastmilk. She actually turns away from me when I go to feed her. I've started pumping and giving her milk in a bottle during the day so I can monitor how much she is drinking, and figure out "why" she wants to drink because alot of the time with me if she did breastfeed it would only be for like 1 to 2 minutes before she would pull away.
Avatar f tn When my son was born I was having an issue with him staying latched however I found out later on I had a real fast letdown and just being born it was to fast for him so the nurses had me hand express and that wasnt working well and my son lost to much weight so they brought me the pump and bingo I had milk already at 1 day and was pumping ounces so I fed him breastmilk from bottle at 2 days old he gained weight right away and when I went home I continued to nurse and would pump every 2 hours or
2021990 tn?1398838140 Try pumping when you give birth, if your having a hard time at least then you won't dry out and you can still feed your baby just a little breast milk & still give him formula.
