Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk hind milk

milk

Avatar f tn Yeah depending on what you eat and everything can change the color but most dont notice because of breastfeeding and not pumping. Also there is a difference in milk (foremilk and hind milk). The foremilk is kind of like getting a drink and the hind milk is all the fatty stuff to fill the baby up so you need to make sure you pump long enough to get both kind (you should feel a let down kind of feels like pins and needles mine did).
689528 tn?1364135841 I had the same problem! And to anyone who's babies are spitting up breast milk and not formula- don't give up breast milk completely! My son is doing this also and from what I've read its because breast milk is thinner and easier to spit up than formula. Basically I decided instead of completely throwing in the towel and quitting breast milk altogether, I'm just pumping 3 times a day now and feeding him breast milk 3 times.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to pump first, then feed because of the whole "hind milk" thing. When pumping, the first milk the comes out is watery, then it gets thicker. My almost 4 week old falls asleep while nursing, so if I don't get all the watery milk out first she doesn't get to the hind milk/thicker milk so she wakes up sooner. I haven't gotten to the point where I store milk, if I make 2 bottles, she usually takes them the same day. We are still figuring this thing out.
7826135 tn?1394734754 When you do pump, u can pump before or after feedings. The hind milk (milk in the back basically) has mire calories so maybe pump before on one breast, give that breast to baby. Then offer other side and pump 2nd side after feeding to balance the calories. I always nurse between 10-20 min on one or both sides depending on what my son wants.
Avatar f tn So when I bring my babygirl from the hospital I'm Going to be alone ! How of then do I bathe her ? When does she stray tummy time ? When can I put her on the play mat? I'm plannin on breast feeding and I need to start pumping right away ! When do I pump ? While I'm feeding her ? After before ? If I breast dead what will my schedule be looking like?
Avatar f tn When do breast milk starts coming out the breast I had my baby on the 29th no milk still
Avatar f tn Thats how my milk always looks, its the seperation bw foremilk and the hind milk. It seperates in the frigde right? Thats totally normal, just shake and warm in a cup of warm water before using. Also, Im pretty sure that pump and dump isnt really make sense unless your drunk or under influence, when you do it, once alcohol leaves your system, it also leaves breast milk. So you only dump when the alcohol is likely in your system still, at a rate of 1 drink per hour.
Avatar f tn I will tell you that my son that we supplemented with bottle (and I did both breast milk in the bottle but hated pumping so we switched to formula) as well as breast fed weaned earlier than my other son. I also had those lumps occasionally. My doctor told me to massage them a bit. I did. And that got better. Hang in there mama. It's a beautiful thing to have this time with your baby.
Avatar f tn With my first child I did breast feeding for a year, but when I tried transitioning her from breast to bottle, it was A PAIN! She refused to take the bottle, so now I want to try to do both.. I bought a breast pump, so I'm wondering how does the whole freezing your milk process work? How long is it good for? How do you unfreeze it? Or boil it? Thank you for your time!
676912 tn?1332812551 If you become uncomfortable between feedings, I recommend pumping off the excess milk. This will help you be more comfortable, plus you can start a stock pile of milk for later one when you may be away from your baby.
Avatar f tn I would not recommend pumping before your milk supply comes after the baby is born it could cause you to go into preterm labor. I'm having my second and after my first I never stopped lactating even when I stopped breastfeeding. I still would leak collosum (don't know if that is spelled right) especially when he would cry.
8526246 tn?1405601876 How long after pumping is breast milk good for without refrigerating or do I have to refrigerate right away? I want to pump and feed without having to refrigerate and thaw but not sure if its not ok to do so.
Avatar n tn I had my baby 5 days ago and im pumping and i only get a half an ounce each breast if that.. Will my breast supply increase??. I want to produce more milk what do i do?
3588173 tn?1357317184 Alright looks like I will be setting a couple alarms during the night to pump.
7058746 tn?1393435420 I had my baby last week 31weeks 5 days and started pumping and I get alot of milk and I just freeze take it to.
Avatar f tn im pumping out my milk but its colostrum. i wanted to know when wikl my milk come in.
Avatar f tn I have been pumping and storing breast milk for my princess and it seams like the amount is slowing down what can I do to get it back up I do not want to give her formula at all!
Avatar f tn Pumping doesn't stimulate milk production like natural breastfeeding does. Try hand stimylating with pumping every hour, using warm rags around your breast to make the let down reflex easier, and eating certain foods and even some teas can help the body produce milk.
Avatar f tn Also if I get the freezer bags to freeze my milk because I tend to carry a lot of milk. How long is the frozen milk good for and how do you defrost it.
14975014 tn?1437675913 They need that for a few days and when your real milk comes in, your baby is ready for it. You have to remember that your milk is made exactly for the baby, pumping before hand messes all that up and isn't good for either of you.
Avatar f tn Ok so I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I just got my breast milk today. I decided to squeeze my breast because it was hurting . and I started leaking . what do I do . I'm a ftm. I'm only 19 and do I pump? Or do I just leave it alone ?
Avatar f tn Well it wouldn't really be breast milk coming out it would be colostrum.. But that's nutritious for baby too.. Pumping may bring on contractions though so I wouldn't do it since you're only 33 weeks.
1123420 tn?1350561158 I really want my baby to have breast milk for the first month or so, but really can't imagine actually breast feeding, so I was thinking about just pumping it.. I don't know the first thing about it. So is that any different, does it break the bond? Does it hurt any less? I have absolutely no idea, so if you could help me with these questions, or let me know other things that I need to know, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!!
Avatar f tn ) Have you tried pumping? If your already breastfeeding it would be much cheep er a deep your supply up..
