Avatar f tn Anyone else having the problem of having too much for baby to swallow? I am currently trying to breast feed and pump when she is done eating, still can't keep up with all the milk I have. Any suggestions? My boobs are getting HARD to manage/touch.
Avatar f tn Hello ladies...my daughter is 3 days old and i am breastfeeding...so far its not going to well :/...she's not eating a lot yet and my breast are producing so much milk that I even have to pump.....she is having a hard time latching and I gave in once and gave her a bottle....my breast are so hard and so sore I'm in tears! I was wondering would it be ok to just pump in the nights and bottle feed her and breast during the day?
Avatar n tn I did all the treatments for clogged milk ducts/mastitis, but nothing really helped. The pain would come and go, but my breast never expressed like it had with my first baby. My left breast became noticably larger than my right. I thought the pain and swelling would go away after I stopped nursing/pumping. Six weeks after I stopped nursing and pumping, I was still having pain. I went to the doctor's thinking I might have that kind of breast cancer that doesn't get a lump.
Avatar f tn Im breastfeedinq my bby qurl and my right breast hursts cuz its full.of milk and Ive tried to qive the bby from that breast but my nipple hurts alot and bleed also .. ive tried some nipple cream and puttin warm water ..
Avatar f tn I was told not to pump and dump, its better to wait it out because the alcohol content in breast milk will be the same as in your blood, as youre blood alcohol levels decrease so will the amount in the breast milk and pumping and dumping will just be a waste. My dr told me that its better to just wait it out and to pump a little every now and then and use these test strips from walmart.
Avatar f tn I massaged my breasts in a hot shower and massaged them during pumping to try to unblock any milk in breasts. But what really helped was pumping more often to avoid engorgement. I froze extra milk. At first i fed baby her bottle and then pumped for 7 or so minutes. It was sleep depriving but i tried sleeping during the day to make up for loss of sleep. Then i slowly started to go 5 hours during the night without pumping and my breasts got used to it.
Avatar f tn It will cause you to contract. Your milk doesn't come in until after the baby is born. I'd just wait until baby is born and see how much you're producing. Pumping after feeding will increase your milk as well. If you have too much it's recommended to only express enough to relieve the pain of engorgement, but not totally empty the breast.
Avatar f tn You are supposed to pump every 2 hours for 10-15 minutes per breast. That is what your baby would typically be doing if they were to latch on because breast milk digest quicker and baby eats more often. In the first week you will only supply about an ounce or so, their bellies are still really small. When they are around 3 weeks you will get more milk because their bellies are growing.
Avatar f tn I have been breast feeding and my milk came in and they hurt SOOOO bad! And they are super hard and very tender, is there anything I can do to make them less in pain?
3185867 tn?1348434443 You should feed baby and then only express enough to relieve engorgement. Pumping and emptying the breast will make you produce even more. If you're worried about supply then drain them. Engorgement passes once your body realizes how much milk it needs to make and it regulates. To relieve it express enough to relieve pressure, use warm compresses, and nurse frequently (when baby is hungry or every two to three hours).
1209036 tn?1299178657 yesterday when i was pumping i noticed nothing coming out of my left breast, i took the pump off and noticed that my milk is thick and stringy.....what does this mean and how do i correct it? any thoughts?
202436 tn?1326474333 DD, she never got the latch right so I was pumping and bottle feeding her the breast milk. Last Monday was the last time I pumped. I can tell that over the last several days the intitial engorgement has started to subside. My breasts aren't as full and heavy. Also note that I tapered off of pumping going from 4 times a day down to 3, then 2 then 1 gradually in order to help eliminate massive engorgement.
2020005 tn?1628125976 I forgot how to treat engorgement, it seems like pumping will only make me produce more, any input?! My little girl is 3 days old, very fortunate to have a ton of milk but getting a littttle swollen haha!
Avatar f tn It's only on my left breast. She latch good and I also pump as well.
Avatar f tn My LC suggested waiting until 6 weeks before Introducing a bottle because pumping can trigger extra milk production & cause painful engorgement in the breasts. She also said that because babies have an easier time getting milk from a bottle, they may be more prone to refusing the breast if a routine isn't established first.
285896 tn?1237211227 m producing so much milk...by the time I pumped and emptied the right breast when I moved on to the left breast the right one was full again. The specialist said most women have the opposite problem not making enough milk, but i'm shooting it out everywhere. I'm engorged all day & all night and its not a good feeling. I can hardly pick the baby up; just to have him bump into them sends chills down my spine. Then my nipples are so cracked im getting blood in my milk when i pump.
Avatar f tn t the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....
4678041 tn?1360105479 ve breastfed so was just curious how long does it take for the fullness n engorgement feeling to go away n for ur boobs to feel softer but still full of milk lol if that makes sense. TIA..
Avatar f tn Hi, The pain could very well be from your daughter's bumping into your breast.Nerves behind the nipples are very sensitive and it will probable take some time for the pain to subside. If this pain still persist, you should see your doctor to rule out the complications of clogged milk ducts including breast engorgement and mastitis. And don't think that your problem has anything to do with breast cancer though.. Hope you'll feel better soon. Take care....
1205562 tn?1554747006 Of course there are other ways to increase milk supply such as Mothers Milk tea, napping, double pumping, making sure you're drinking plenty of water, etc. Remember this: if you do chose to drink a beer, dark beer (Guiness for example) is the kind to drink, and you don't need more than 1.
435985 tn?1249067908 just talked with the lactation consultant and we have a plan to take baby off the breast for 24 hours and pump instead and give her milk that way. Let the nipples heal and engorgement go down. So if anyone else is having issues, might also help to do that.
Avatar f tn Refridgerated cabbage leaves, cold packs, tylenol, a warm shower. If you pump it will easy the pain but more milk will come in to replae what you've pumped.
Avatar f tn How long did you try for? It took me 6 days for my milk to finally come in and get engorged. When pumping colostrum I never got a lot either but baby doesnt need a whole lot in the beginning. Also a lot of women dont respond to a pump well but have a good supply and baby is a lot better at getting everything out.
Avatar f tn You should not pump if your having problems with engorgement. Pumping signals your body to produce more because it thinks baby is eating more. Best thing to do is warm sports and hand express a little bit just to relieve some pressure.
Avatar f tn I did that and I had to supplement with formula in the beginning and still produced a more than adequate supply of breast milk cuz I did everything above and after 8 wks I was breastfeeding my son exclusively. Just keep it up and ull get the hang of it. Also try to relax and once ur breasts fill up with milk, feed baby and or pump so u don't suffer from engorgement. Goodluck!! I'm sure it will work out just fine for u.
Avatar f tn You can also express milk manually by squeezing them which can be painful and breast milk is what I used to call liquid gold, because I didn'twant to waste it. I found out about cabbage leaves 4 babies ago browsing the internet. Check it out, you may find it, and it may bring you relief. I sure hope so. I remember the pain of engorgement like yesterday!
Avatar f tn Ok. Is it true if you place lettuce on your breast it will increase the milk flow?
Avatar f tn It will make your milk come in more, and make it worse. Her milk is just coming in, and pumping tells your body to produce more! And more means engorgement and more pain.
