psychotic

Avatar n tn And if you have suicidal urges you need to see a psychiatrist right away. Depression with psychotic features is when a person has psychotic thoughts only during mood fluctuations. With schizoaffective disorder psychotic thoughts or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) can occur at any time. But as to how to look at it I'd say look at it as I do, I am a person with a psychiatric disability and I need treatment as part of my recovery.
Avatar n tn My wife has been identified with delusional paranoia. She is scared about the world and feels very insecure. She fights with me severely, mainly on issues related to girls. She fears that I may deceive her. Is this a serious problem that requires medication? We met a psychologist and he prescribed medication (oleanz 2.5 and Feliz S 5mg), but she is not willing to take them saying it will have some adverse side effects. Can this problem be solved by counseling or other methods?
1965148 tn?1354978634 can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.
717440 tn?1292743742 Thanks for explaining that for me... so now I'm certain that I don't have hallucinations, but I think I might be delusional... if I think/believe something, then I'll argue until it doesn't make sense any more, y'know what I mean? Is that being delusional?
Avatar f tn I find an increase in paranoid / delusional thinking and other psychotic/ anxiety symptoms too just before a period. The GP wanted to treat it with a contraceptive injection, but I refused and am now trying to control it with alternative methods, although I do take an antipsychotic for bipolar anyway which must help a bit. My CPN said that she has come accross several examples where this has happened to people, so you're not alone.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar f tn I have a sister who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, another who is hypochondriac who has hidden her diagnosis from everyone but I know for a fact that she is both paranoid delusional and psychotic, a son who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, an aunt who has some kind of mental disorder and takes the same meds as the first three ... Olanzapine. My grandmother died of encephalitus of the brain. My father suffered from depression.

12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
524802 tn?1212366968 I am a recovering alcoholic, OCD, Bipolar with psychotic (sp?) tendencies (I can't remember if I was classified BP I or BPII). I relate to the anger. I relate to wanting to end it all. But I got help. It can be done. You don't have to live that way. But you do have to follow a treatment plan. YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR MEDS! Sometimes it is easy to get hooked on the high that your own brain can create and anger can give you a high just as much as pure euphoric mania can.
1360950 tn?1277656603 Antipsychotics are often used as mood stabilizers, and some of them are really very effective for that purpose. Many patients who have never had psychotic symptoms (patients with depression which has not responded to just an antidepressant, for instance) are finding that the addition of an "atypical" or newer antipsychotic can be helpful. This is an example of the problem with names in pharmacology.
899491 tn?1243773627 Bipolar with psychotic features is not that rare. When a person has bipolar with psychotic features they have psychosis specifically during moodswings. When a person has schizoaffective as I do they experience psychosis all the time (as I did before my current recovery). The whole spectrum of bipolar to schizophrenia is linked up and they are just learning how.
1840891 tn?1431547793 He doesn't sound bipolar. Lying is not a symptom of bipolar. If he isn't lying and does believe what he is saying then he is delusional which could be from drugs or alcohol.
Avatar m tn what are your numbers with reference ranges ?? what treatment you have ?? regarding the psychosis , I would suggest that you see a psychiatrist ,however ,theoretically hyper can cause mental impairment so does hypo, but again ,in the case of psychosis your ability to judge is not in it's best ,so consult with a specialist ,and let him say what is the actual cause of the psychotic symptoms you have !! don't wait !
Avatar f tn I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs. With Wellbutrin, I had a psychotic break that manifested itself in extreme, delusional paranoia. It wasn't pretty. With Celexa, I cycled much harder; it really wasn't until I ditched the Celexa completely that my moods stopped swinging dangerously. My moods still swing, but no where near as bad as they were with Celexa.
Avatar n tn If so, he could be going through severe withdrawal and suffering a psychotic break from it. It might be worth mentioning to the docs at the facility, just so that they're aware of the possibility.
Avatar n tn There are a variety of neurotransmitters involved. Its complex. However, as for psychosis, the thinking up until now was that the brain of people with schizophrenia was overactive in the area of dopamine receptors. All antipsychotics work by lowering the amount of dopamine. However, lowering dopamine, creates a condition clinically similar to Parkinsons' known as tardive dyskinesia which I have in severe form. That doesn't mean people shouldn't take treatment.
Avatar f tn Not wanting to sound crazy myself, but did you ever do a history check of the area to see if there is anything similar accociated with the area maybe dating back in time? I know a few spiritualists who see a lot of things I don't see. If we were to committ them all on the grounds of what they claimed they could see there would be no room left in mental hospitals. Don't get me wrong here. Not saying your mother is not delusional. She may well be.
925572 tn?1246540031 This is slightly off subject but I recently had a cold and took Nyquil. I became psychotic and delusional until it wore off. Just a warning. No one ever told me.
Avatar n tn A person from my family went undiagnosed for many years despite strange behavior, only when she had a psychotic episode did she allow us to take her to a doctor and was diagnosed with paranoid disorder. The symptoms fit her "usual" symptoms (i.e. those she's had for years) - relatively coherent delusions of being disliked, plotted against, of her flat being bugged, someone stealing things when she's out.
Avatar m tn As a bipolar 1, on no meds, I know the feeling of guilt and shame that comes with acting crazy around people. Mostly, I tend to go off in the mountains, but sometimes, I have done some pretty embarrassing things. My psychotic break was about 18 months ago now. It took a good year to fully recover. I so relate to you saying that you "thought" you were doing better, but were likely still manic or affected by your break or bipolar.
Avatar n tn There are so many different varities of bipolar as well from cyclothymia (mild bipolar) to bipolar with psychotic features to schizoaffective which is schizophrenia with aspects of bipolar (what I have and have recovered from). Too complex to discuss in a post but I'd answer specific questions. Go to "Depression Central" (for all mood disorders) for more comprehensive information. Its a great resource.
Avatar m tn t think that this is normal but i have been trying to avoid telling my doctor because my mom said he might try to put me a psychotic medication because I sound delusional but I know what I see what should i do? I'm 25 years old.
Avatar m tn I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it. Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
605458 tn?1539228808 And I surrendered my license intentionally after I experienced a manic episode and acted on delusional thoughts. I put myself and my patients in danger. I wanted to be sure that during another manic episode I wouldn't get another nursing job thinking I was OK. Since I have been on disability I have had some very serious episodes with psychotic features, delusional memories, paranoia, and auditory hallucinations, and have been very close to acting on false beliefs.
