Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic thinking

psychotic

Avatar n tn And if you have suicidal urges you need to see a psychiatrist right away. Depression with psychotic features is when a person has psychotic thoughts only during mood fluctuations. With schizoaffective disorder psychotic thoughts or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) can occur at any time. But as to how to look at it I'd say look at it as I do, I am a person with a psychiatric disability and I need treatment as part of my recovery.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
1115572 tn?1258804496 Seroquel is the only anti-psychotic with the risk of causing cataracts. There are of course other options. As for antipsychotics they can cause diabetes but that can be managed with a proper diet. You may have acquired cataracts from another cause than the Seroquel but if you did its not from the onset of diabetes. Its a seperate cause and there are many other antipsychotics, the 3 newest with the least risk of weight gain being Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris.
899491 tn?1243773627 My bipolar symptoms was in remission for a very long time since 1994! I do have occasional problems but its easily fixed with adjusting my med's. But this episode was different. When I had my relaspe all the familiar sensations reared its ugly head and its very frightening handling this monster inside me. After experiencing the good, bad and ugly of mania I slid into a deep depression. I felt that familiar disjointed feeling like I did not own my own body.
Avatar n tn I am having lots of sleep problems while tapering from Risperdal but I am not even thinking about taking help of any anti psychotic to sleep. Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.
Avatar n tn When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features.
Avatar m tn Thank you very much for your amazing answer, Ive been on prozac since February, the scary thing is that I read it may cause schizophrenia, thats why Im scared of taking an upper dosage, but many assured me it has nothing to do with this, and knowing Im already 24 years old, they said Im not in danger.
1965148 tn?1354978634 can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.
Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar f tn Not every breakdown is psychotic. I had a complete mental breakdown about 16 years ago or so which lead to 3 years of crushing depression - my illness course leaves me prone to this type of breakdown. However not being on meds? Dont know - i went nearly 15 years not on meds and i thought i was fine until I wasnt and went psychotic manic, so you might be fine for a long time as well. And I wasnt fine, I was hypomanic and looking back had at least 3 mini breakdowns and burnouts in that time.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
603015 tn?1329862973 I would not of course know the specifics. I would then speak to my psychiatrist. But if someone is completely psychotic they lose track of reality completely. As well a person's awareness they that have a psychiatric disability can be completely lost. I did once before I recovered stop medication and of course have to sign myself into the psychiatric hospital. But I remembered that experience and never did that again.
Avatar m tn i hallucinated and heard voices because of very stressful high anxiety. if you realize it's anxiety, then thats what it is. schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder. When you're psychotic you don't know what's real and what's not. The fact that you can separate reality and dellusions means you're not schizophrenic.
Avatar f tn I find an increase in paranoid / delusional thinking and other psychotic/ anxiety symptoms too just before a period. The GP wanted to treat it with a contraceptive injection, but I refused and am now trying to control it with alternative methods, although I do take an antipsychotic for bipolar anyway which must help a bit. My CPN said that she has come accross several examples where this has happened to people, so you're not alone.
Avatar f tn No. There are many disabilities that are not reversible but it could be said one "recovers" from them. A person with epilepsy who takes anti-convulsants most often (though there are some people who do not respond and still have seizures) does not have seizures again. That is correct that a fair amount of people do have some moodswings with treatment for bipolar.
Avatar m tn For a long time i am thinking thoughts that i am a bad person and no one likes me. i also wake up feeling guilty about things for no reason everyday, like i upset someone the night before but actually didnt upset anyone. thinking people are talking about me when i am out and stuff. i have had depression a while ago and tried to commit suicide during that time i also drink alot now it seems to take the anxiety away.is this a sign of schitzophenia or some other similar illness. thanks.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from OCD since 9 years and I had taken various types of SSRIs (prescribed by psychiatrists) during last four years I was on a high dose of Lavox with some psychotic drugs and and Clomaphranil. These drugs cause me to have a lot of sleep , I usually sleep about 12-14 hours a day. During these four years I had done nothing, I had not watched any movie,TV show not any game, sports and even had not participate in any type of social activity.
Avatar f tn I now know I always had behavior that was unusual and somewhat abnormal since I was a child, first started having psychotic thoughts when I was 13 and then at the age of 18 had a full psychotic break. I never really felt like myself until I started that treatment in clinical study but once I did could look back and see that I always had behavior patterns and obsessions that were markedly abnormal.
Avatar m tn made me a real lame conversationalist, I think some of it had to do with anxiety as well as the psychotic element, because I was very conscious of not being able to do this which just exacerbated the problem for me anyway. I got used to asking open questions and letting the other person do the talking!
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar n tn I have been having some neurological disorder like symptoms that I need to get seen for and I believe the invega medication is causing this. This scares me into thinking that adding more medication might make whatever this disorder is to become that much worse. Any advice guys?
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
