Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic symptoms what are

psychotic

Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
574118 tn?1305135284 t know whether i am cycloth... or BP2 or BP1 but sure i had psychotic symptoms so may be BP1. But again my 1st mania occurred only under AD's as well as all the other 3 manias. But the latter weren't true mania just hypomanias for a few days but still due to AD's which I rushed in time to kill. Now this time my 2nd full blown mania stayed for 7 months now which is nonsense and my AP's are greater in dose than before. Can a mania stay that long or perhaps i changed from cycloth...
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
Avatar f tn In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood. In psychotic disorder medication is a very good way to treat symptoms. Therapy is always a plus.
Avatar f tn There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD). It is also possible for people to develop psychotic-like symptoms amidst a severe depressive episode ("psychotic depression"), as a reaction to medication, and substance abuse.
Avatar f tn No family history of bipolar disorder. Also, what would treatment be? Surgery? Expected recovery time? What are chances mania will recurr?
12268405 tn?1427853361 Hi Tanner. Well, I'll tell you what I know. You actually can have depression and have hallucinations when your depresion is severe enough. That is not unheard of. Hallucinations can happen in other conditions besides schizophrenia. I also had paranoia. It can happen with depression, especially when you aren't sleepig very much. I have had psychotic breaks with the depression cycle of my bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar n tn While Benadryl can be used in a pinch, the more common (more potent) agents are Cogentin (Benztropine) and Artane (Trihexyphenidyl). Those are both anti-Parkinson agents that are used to reverse EPS. The half-life of Risperidone is 20 hours. So approximately 1/2 of the administered dosage would be eliminated in a day. Without knowing the actual dosage given, it is impossible to give you an exacting time frame.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar f tn Another psych consult possibly isn't a bad idea (but what if you don't like what they have to say either?). Some therapists aren't as good as others and some aren't always a good fit for us. Perhaps you could ask if you could try another therapist. Sometimes you need to give them a fair chance too though. Have you looked up the dsm-iv for bpd? Does that seem remotely relevant?
Avatar f tn Yes there can be causes of psychosis other than schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders or other factors that would worsen it that are physical. A person at all times should make their psychiatrist aware of any physical disabilities or disorders they have or especially inherited tendencies in the family.
Avatar f tn I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors. I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. But after I had it I have never got back up to baseline yet since and I seem to relapse easily to varying extents.
222267 tn?1253302210 there is say " tell me what you eat (meds) and i tell you what you are". So perhaps is what you are taking. OR perhaps you are not taking any meds AT ALL so your symptoms are the natural ones that BP encounter in general and that ours are oppositely intricate due to swallowing meds. If i were you I wouldn't try to understand. Trying to understand too much will lead you nowhere . Besides, you may catch OCD and worries for no reason.
603015 tn?1329862973 Can anyone tell me as I try to understand what has been happening to me if you are aware of the following I experienced some sort of voices in my head, it was very brief but for the first time in my life a week after I had come off the AD when I was apparently rapid cycling I had other voices in my head.
Avatar m tn I am a 31 year old married guy and I have been suffering from the following psychiatric symptoms since last 10 years.I have an underlying cause of depression bcoz of failing in the career front , actually being an engineering dropout with seeing no hope for the future and also being a stammerer / stutterer resulting in tremendous anxiety lasting since last 14 years or so.
6653958 tn?1395759593 I am still having ups and downs, but no extremes yet. That is what I want, to feel still, but not go psychotic. Then my therapist said that it is normal to feel like normal is odd, I have only known extremes all my life. My doc said I may End up On seroquel or depakote, but she believes in low a dose as is effective and only add another med after an honest try of one at a time. I'm glad I've held out so far, I have been able to manage with lithium, though the first month was rough.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else like this and what can be done. And which the psychotic features am I on my way to having a breakdown of some sorts?
Avatar f tn I'm honestly not sure as to an exact answer to your question but I believe clinical studies showed years ago that what people used to term a "midlife crisis" was actually a later age onset of symptoms. Anyway, I've made a good recovery from schizoaffective which clinically is a step further than bipolar with psychotic features as in bipolar with psychotic features a person has delusions and hears voices during moodswings and in schizoaffective disorder its all the time.
Avatar m tn Has anyone on this forum ever had a psychotic break? What are they like? Can you control or remember them? Are there some people more prone than others? Can some people not have them? I'm afraid of these, as I don't want to harm anyone or myself, please help!! Any answers? Could I have had one before thinking it was a real bad panic attack?
