Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Avatar n tn Seroquel is only going to treat bp symptoms, not the cause. He definitely sounds like he needs it for his psychotic behavior, but I think he needs something more. If I were you and could commit him until he can get stable on meds and quit drinking, I would do it.
Avatar m tn The biggest loser is my son he has seen neglected by her and has seen her violence and he is starting to mimic her. As of Dec 13 our lease is up and I am moving out with my son. Her family probably will not take her back and I feel bad but I can not take anymore of her violence towards me and my son. I do feel guilty that I am leaving her with very little but I have tried and feel that I got to take my sons health as my most important issue.
1965148 tn?1354978634 Hey Elinah, I have experienced two psychotic manic episodes after being put on antidepressants. They both lasted at least a week. It started out as a feeling of increased euphoria, racing thoughts, confidence boost, insomnia and impulsiveness. These symptoms progressed and got more intense as time went on, and after a few days my thoughts began to turn sinister. I started having hallucinations and hearing voices telling me to kill myself and others.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...

Avatar f tn Violence is a crime. The persons committing the violence need to seek professional help. They also need to pray God give them grace to overcome that. Someone will end up in jail.
Avatar f tn Many of what you have described are bipolar symptoms - the rage, the paranoia and yes sadly even the violence can be traits but you need to get a diagnsosis from someone new who does not have a preconceived idea of what you have and wont lok further as it seems this one has. Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn My question is should I see medical attention or are the following symptoms basic side effects from being choked and slapped: my ears hurt, my face aches, my neck hurts especially when I swallow and my head is killing me. Please help, I really don't want to go to the hospital and have to relive that again.

Avatar f tn Anger can be a manifistation of depression but is usually considered more to the manic end of the spectrum. When you are depressed you may be angry but you likely lack the energy to do anything about it. He could just be angry about being sick and taking it out on the nearest person. Rage also produces feel good endorphines and can be a way of self medicating. It can become a form of addiction. She needs to encourage him to go see his psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn Children with ADHD usually do not exhibit psychotic symptoms or reveal a loss of contact with reality, whereas children with bipolar disorder may exhibit gross distortions in the perception of reality or in the interpretation of emotional events. There are 3 levels of bipolar. Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Cyclothymia. Lithium is usually used to treat bipolar because it treats depression and mania but it cannot be given to a child under 12. I have never used drugs.
Avatar f tn I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors. I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. But after I had it I have never got back up to baseline yet since and I seem to relapse easily to varying extents.
Avatar f tn Within FEP patients, decreases in cortisol and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio over time were directly related to the improvement in depression . . . negative . . . and psychotic symptoms . . . . Perceived stress significantly correlated with DHEAS . . . and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio . . . in controls, but not patients, possibly reflecting an impaired hormonal response to stress in FEP patients. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood. In psychotic disorder medication is a very good way to treat symptoms. Therapy is always a plus.
Avatar f tn I am not sure whether I am actually bipolar or was just suffering from abuse and menopause symptoms. I tried to wean myself off medications at one point but as I understand it, if you are not weaned off properly, stopping medications can "cause" a psychotic episode. I was definitely very jittery and couldn't focus very well but that could have been from stopping the medication too quickly.
Avatar f tn Jaquta - I'm not sure what I'll do if I don't like the results from the psych consult. I suppose I could just continue treatment with my primary physician, as I think he could manage my complaints. I have looked up the dsm-iv for bipolar disorder, and it definitely doesn't match my complaints.

The psych kept doubling the anti-psychotic (seroquil) until he was eventually on 900 as well as other medications and he was unrecognisable, deffinetely a danger to himself because of his total disconnection to reality.
