Avatar n tn If temporal lobe is affected, then a person suffers from temporal lobe epilepsy. Usually the focus is in one temporal lobe. The epilepsy is partial in nature and one does not get the typical seizures. It could just be a stare, a twitch, a startle reflex, any neurological symptom. If there are two foci—one is each temporal lobe, then you may either have a neutralizing effect or a pronounced effect.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm wondering if anyone know's of a link between Aspergers (Autism), Prosopagnosia (face blindness) and Epilepsy? - I believe I have AS (my GP also thinks this) though I'm unable to attain a diagnosis due to lack of diagnostic funding for adults (in my area). - I am however currently being assessed for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.
643983 tn?1242175018 I wish I could get an answer to that as well. I was dx with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) a few months ago and taking Trileptal (450 mg per day), it seems to be working pretty well for me (I was having simple partial seizures and still have some aura on occasion, I will be talking to my neurologist about this on the next appointment). My neurologist was not able to tell me what caused it, I don't think I ever had a head injury.
Avatar n tn I have been told that I have temporal lobe epilepsy. My symptoms are severe mood swings (highs & lows) hallucinations (snakes, things flying & crawling) ,emotional, memory problems. I have never had a blackout or any other strange things....when i read other stories about tle its nothing like like what i experience...
7659759 tn?1394402943 Do you have temporal lobe epilepsy? Usually when you have complex partial seizures from the temporal lobe on one side the pupil in the eye on the opposite side will be larger. I had refractory complex partial seizures for years coming from my left temporal lobe, and my right pupil was often a lot larger than my left, especially when I felt "seizure prone.
Avatar n tn Bipolar is often confused with temporal lobe epilepsy, because TLE has ALL the psichosis if it isn't well controlled, since they are mostly part of the temporal lobe.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 54 years old, female. From around 1964 to 1969 I was put on Ritalin to control what they called a perceptual disorder/hyperactivity. I was also put on Phenobarbital for around 9 months when the Ritalin did not appear to be working. The Phenobarbital made me psychotic and prone to violent meltdowns. It was several months before anyone made the connection. I was then returned to Ritalin and remained on it until I reached puberty.
Avatar f tn My 5 year old son has been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. He has a severe case of meningitis at 16 months and his doctor believes that this caused the damage to his brain. On the MRI scan you can clearly see the damage to the front part of the left temporal lobe. He is on Epilim at the moment but not seizure free yet, although the seizures are much less. We are considering surgery.
Avatar f tn -Being drunk or high, or coming down from such drugs as marijuana, LSD, cocaine (including crack), PCP, amphetamines, heroin, ketamine, and alcohol -Delirium or dementia (visual hallucinations are most common) -Epilepsy that involves a part of the brain called the temporal lobe (odor hallucinations are most common) -Fever, especially in children and the elderly -Narcolepsy -Psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and psychotic depression -Sensory problem, such as blindness or deafness -Se
Avatar n tn I had refractory complex partial temporal lobe epilepsy for 13 years, and had a temporal lobectomy in August 2007 at Mayo to help me get better control over my epilepsy. My pre operative MRI also revealed an abnormality in my left temporal lobe, described as also had a periventricular white matter in the anterior-medial section of my left temporal lobe, considered some type of demyelination or cortical dysplasia. I was told this for many years.
Avatar n tn Piercing injury to my temporal lobe. I have post traumatic epilepsy coming from the injury area of the temporal lobe. It defin must be something in the temporal area.. I have many of the same issues.
Avatar n tn but did not have the unsettling symptoms I have now. My doctor said my complex partial seizures are in the left temporal lobe...On the slight chance there is a lesion, would it also be in the left temporal lobe? Wouldn't an EEG have picked up a lesion? And are my other symptoms, including headache, compatible with a lesion of some kind? Thanks for your kindness and expertise.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry if this doesn't belong here, I think it may be epilepsy because there is a history of temporal lobe epilepsy in my family. Hi, the other day after I had lunch, I was sitting at my computer working and I got a weird sensation in my chest, it moved to my back, up my neck, through my head, made my vision go blurry to a kind of tunnel vision, the left side of my face was twitching, and then at the end it felt like someone punched me in the nose.
Avatar f tn They did an eeg which came back abnormal, they said i had spikes and told me i had temporal lobe epilepsy. I stopped taking the medicine because it made me feel drugged and I feel liek I dont need it, I dont feel like i am having seizures because to me, im just passing out! I am worried something could be really wrong. It happens at random times. Ive even woke up from a sound sleep sweating extremely bad and passed out. PLease help!
Avatar f tn Greetings! A neurologist believes I have temporal lobe epilepsy. He prescribed Keppra and ordered an EEG and a MRI. I received the MRI results in the mail. Its' impression states, "subtle medial temporal asymmetry with mild prominence of the right temporal horn". Will someone please explain how those findings correlate with temporal lobe epilepsy if any? Thank you, kindly.

Avatar f tn A temporal lobe abnormality on EEG indicates seizure activity which can be due to temporal lobe epilepsy. The symptoms felt by the patient include abnormal sensations like a feeling of déjà vu, loss of short term memory or amnesia. Other sensations could be abnormal taste sensations, abnormal sounds and smell, feelings of fear, nervousness and anger. These symptoms last for few minutes to an hr. I would suggest you to see a neurologist as early as possible.
Avatar m tn I am a 37 year old female with temporal lobe epilepsy and lately I have been havong alot of symptoms that don't seem to add up to anything when I go see the doctor. I have been having numbness in my feet and hands. My feet feel like I am beung stung by a bee over and over when I am trying to sleep at night and all of my muscles seem to be tensed up all the time and they hurt alot. I have been so tired I almost fall asleep at work.
Avatar f tn Knut wester from norway that showed 80% headache resolution with arachnoid cyst removal. The temporal lobe does control memory/mood and corresponds to both the symptoms she is having and the location of the cyst. Look up the skull base institute in los angeles or Dr. Lazareff a neurosurgeon associated with UCLA.
Avatar f tn In December 2014 I was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. In February 2015 I had both a CT Scan and MRI scan to check for scars and tumours on my brain/temporal lobe - both came back clear. Which meant that wasn't what was causing my seizures. I'm a 26 yo female - and I went from having a period every 35 days - to having 3 full periods in 41 days (one 5 days, one 10 days and one 7 days long). I went to my GP and she said it wasn't normal and arranged bloods.
1926571 tn?1323206689 Though I was never diagnosed with epilepsy, I had a brain tumor removed from my right temporal lobe two years ago in a procedure that is similar to what some epileptics have the option to undergo. Since my surgery in June of 2010, I have had consistent, but not completely constant pains and aches in my temporal muscle and have had nerve burning and pain near my incision site.
699912 tn?1235667950 If you have partial complex seizers on only one side of your temporal lobe, surgery is the best bet.You will be 80% chance of becoming seizer free. You will have an MRI and they will notice if you have swollen scar tissue on the side of the brain that is causing you to have seizers, my fiance had his surgery on the left side of the brain and hadn't had one seizer afterword. He used to have partial complex seizers every other day, once or twice a day. The surgery was a miracle.
