I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?

I am Bipolar 1 w/psychotic features. I had it mostly when I was having euphoric mania, and alot of racing thoughts. They should have tapered you as it should not be stopped suddenly. I would takes Sara's advice and speak with your Dr. about meds covered. As others here have commented, a real psychotic episode, which is a very serious event, must occur in order for their to be a true 'bipolar I' diagnosis. The diagnostic 'bar' for labling someone as 'manic depressive' must be high, because of the risks of the medications that are needed to control this illness, among other factors.

I am having lots of sleep problems while tapering from Risperdal but I am not even thinking about taking help of any anti psychotic to sleep. Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.

When I was younger, my hypomanic symptoms went completely unnoticed, at least to my knowledge.

I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. One more thing, the two disorders can kind of be put together for one diagnosis. If the person has the symptoms of bipolar disorder but they have the disconects from reality of a person with schizophrenia then they can be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.

It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.

It can also be a part of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, shared psychotic disorder, brief psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, substance-induced psychotic disorder. Hence it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. Take care!
