Avatar f tn There are several reported cases of arachnoid cyst causing psychosis and other psychiatric problems due to compression of surrounding brain tissue by the cyst, with resolution of the psychiatric symptoms following surgery. In your son's case, review of his case by a qualified and well experienced neurologist and neurosurgeon is essential.
12268405 tn?1427853361 You did not create the hallucination of fleas all over, you did not make your symptoms of feeling worthless, paranoid, or hearing voices. These things happened because of the schizophrenia disorder. The newer drug Minocyline, since it is used as an antibiotic, it also reduces inflammation. Lately, the drug treatment world is beginning to think one of the causes of many neuro-type disorders is inflammation! So, you take a drug for it, and there you go!
Avatar m tn BACKGROUND INFO: I was previously diagnosed with OCD, and I've had bouts of it all my life but nothing this intense. I saw my psychiatrist recently and he thinks that this is OCD, but mentioned offhandedly that it could be the onset of psychosis but that its VERY unlikely. Alright, be prepared for an essay. I spent this last summer living with my best friend in a different city. It was a blast for the most part.
918275 tn?1254068752 I am on 10mg of Abilify. It has helped me with my manic episodes and psychotic symptoms but doesn't seem to work with my depressive lows. I have to say we seem to be in the same boat.
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.

Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
1965148 tn?1354978634 As others here have commented, a real psychotic episode, which is a very serious event, must occur in order for their to be a true 'bipolar I' diagnosis. The diagnostic 'bar' for labling someone as 'manic depressive' must be high, because of the risks of the medications that are needed to control this illness, among other factors.
Avatar n tn I am having lots of sleep problems while tapering from Risperdal but I am not even thinking about taking help of any anti psychotic to sleep. Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
723341 tn?1232338253 Is it generally accepted, or your experience, that (hypo)mania increases in intensity and/or discomfort over ones lifetime. Is the prognosis that the symptoms of (hypo)mania will get "worse" over time. I've read that having a (hypo)manic episode increases the chances for additional episodes in the future, but what about their intensity? When I was younger, my hypomanic symptoms went completely unnoticed, at least to my knowledge.
Avatar f tn I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors. I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. But after I had it I have never got back up to baseline yet since and I seem to relapse easily to varying extents.
1037594 tn?1258562179 Anhedonia and lack of interest are two key negative symptoms of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
Avatar f tn The glutamate hypothesis is still under research but clearly effects the specific parts of the brain and their functioning that can be shown to be the origin of the cluster of symptoms of schizophrenia that also would be noted in a Pet scan. Monoamine neurotransmitters are also involved in how MAO inhibitors work a class of anti-depressents that would be used more if it were not for enzyme interactions.
Avatar f tn I know that nobody can diagnose over the internet but a list of symptoms may help give others a picture of what may or may not be going on. Regarding diagnosis, it may be that the first doctor wants to treat the depression before assessing other symptoms. I went for a psych review recently and the doctor said that other diagnoses shouldn't be made until the depression is treated. It makes sense. It really depends on the primary diagnose though. Diagnosing can be tough.

1351968 tn?1278205300 One more thing, the two disorders can kind of be put together for one diagnosis. If the person has the symptoms of bipolar disorder but they have the disconects from reality of a person with schizophrenia then they can be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.

1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
