Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic symptoms medications

psychotic

Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar f tn i am taking anti-psychotic medications which seem to exacerbate my symptoms (they have neurological side effects). However, when i was a small child i had problems with pacing, sitting on the ground and pushing and rocking back and forth, and sitting on my butt and bouncing on the bed to the point that i broke beds and couches until recently. i have also had a habit of hand-clenching and have hurt my wrists several times from doing it.

Avatar n tn These medications have the potential to cause those reactions as an adverse side effect It would be essential to speak to the psychiatrist of whomever is being treated to inform them about this. Then they can make an appropriate decision as to what the next step is within their clinical discretion. Also keep track of when this concern started at what specific time frame and also dosage of medication and let the psychiatrist know.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic. Psychosis from bipolar disorder can possibly be recovered from fully with the right medication unlike let's say schizophrenia for example where classically the patient usually doesn't recover to baseline fully after their first full psychotic break with the current medications out there.
Avatar f tn I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors. I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. But after I had it I have never got back up to baseline yet since and I seem to relapse easily to varying extents.
1039200 tn?1314912008 I have a history of recurrent depression for the last 20 years and a very strong family history of psychotic illness. Last year I after the longest stable stretch I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This was based on a period of 6 months where family and friends witnessed personality change caused by recklessness, elation and lack of sleep. I walked out of my job, finished a relationship of 11 years spent lots of money amongst other things.
Avatar m tn I am a 31 year old married guy and I have been suffering from the following psychiatric symptoms since last 10 years.I have an underlying cause of depression bcoz of failing in the career front , actually being an engineering dropout with seeing no hope for the future and also being a stammerer / stutterer resulting in tremendous anxiety lasting since last 14 years or so.
Avatar f tn When I stopped medication (years ago before my current recovery) I became psychotic so that's never a good idea. When I was transferred from Seroquel to Risperdal with my psychiatrist's exact titration schedule (the only way it should be done) I got some typical flu like withdrawal symptoms for a few days and then it passed over. If your psychiatrist has authorized you to change medications, ask them exactly how it should be done and what to expect.
Avatar f tn Evening primrose oil may lower the seizure threshold and use is contraindicated in patients with seizure disorders, schizophrenia, or individuals receiving anti-seizure or anti-psychotic medications. Therefore, before using this herbal supplement for hair loss I would consult your doctor to see if it is appropriate or if they can recommend something else due to you taking Seroquel (which is classified as an anti-psychotic agent).
Avatar f tn I have had only 1 mild paranoid event during mania that came years after my first recognized mania, so I obviously DO NOT understand psychotic features of BP at all. But my ex-husband has had many psychotic events. He has Bipolar Disorder w/ psychotic features. He has gone into psychosis many times, and is extremely paranoid. After reading the Bipolar Child I see that he has been bipolar his whole life, and has only been diagnosed 3 months ago.
605458 tn?1539228808 And/or just an Other, because some people take medications like the antipsychotic Seroquel for inducing sleep when a person has a mood disorder.
Avatar n tn Also is it possible to ever feel happy without these medications or do I need something that potent (the antidepressants) to get back to normal? I have been having some neurological disorder like symptoms that I need to get seen for and I believe the invega medication is causing this. This scares me into thinking that adding more medication might make whatever this disorder is to become that much worse. Any advice guys?

Avatar f tn Within FEP patients, decreases in cortisol and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio over time were directly related to the improvement in depression . . . negative . . . and psychotic symptoms . . . . Perceived stress significantly correlated with DHEAS . . . and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio . . . in controls, but not patients, possibly reflecting an impaired hormonal response to stress in FEP patients. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn I read these horrible stories about doctors prescibing it to infants, why would a baby need a anti-psychotic? I feel like they just give these medications to anyone without a proper diagnoses. I feel like the presription was inappropriate. This is the only doctor I can see because I have no insurance and she is the only state doctor available.
1037594 tn?1258562179 Anhedonia and lack of interest are two key negative symptoms of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
933174 tn?1375792553 Hypomania can turn into mania if not treated. If you stopped the medications all at once you may have gotten withdrawal symptoms and when I did that (against all good judgment would never do it again) I had hallucinations of having rabies (horrific) as well but then again I have schizoaffective disorder and before my recent recovery (read through my posts) I had psychotic thoughts as well.
1510258 tn?1290468781 iIs this still a symptom of depression or Am I already paranoid?i'm seeing things and hear things...like someone calling my name, there was even a time when it was noon I was washing dishes when a woman in white crawled under our dinning table..i went to follow,to prove to myself that there was nothing there...and I was correct!
Avatar f tn m scared that I will get antipsychotic-withdrawal-induced tardive dyskenisia. What are the symptoms of withdrawal and how would withdrawal TD manifest itself? Can anyone who has tapered-off antipsychotics tell me about their experience? I am also afraid that I might not be stable enough with only lithium, which would make my psychiatrist want to put me back on Seroquel, which I DO NOT want.
1965148 tn?1354978634 Hey Elinah, I have experienced two psychotic manic episodes after being put on antidepressants. They both lasted at least a week. It started out as a feeling of increased euphoria, racing thoughts, confidence boost, insomnia and impulsiveness. These symptoms progressed and got more intense as time went on, and after a few days my thoughts began to turn sinister. I started having hallucinations and hearing voices telling me to kill myself and others.
Avatar m tn Risperdal is an anti-psychotic but that's a subclinical dose so perhaps your psychiatrist prescribed it for panic attacks but I haven't heard of it for that use though it may have some effects. There is no particular interaction between the two medications. If it helps then see what happens. At that small dose there shouldn't be many problems and at any dose those two medications can be used together safely.
Avatar m tn put me on Wellbutrin 75mg first which was THE WINNING NUMBER TWICE A DAY. But then he switched me to 300mg ER within a 9 day period so after 9 days I was psychotic got worse the entire situation that is and I was attacked by one truck...Anyhow I just came out after going in again EVERYONE SAID I LEFT TOO SOON..AT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH IN NYC UPSTATE..
