Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with dissociative disorder and ptsd before i had a major psychotic episode where i felt everything was repeating itself war, protests from the native people blocking major highways, noise of airplanes, it was canada day. I am a survivor of a war, my city was under siege for two months i lost friends at 14, I've seen a lot of sadness in my younger years but i don't understand why this hit me at 41. I am scared to be in that mental state again.
585414 tn?1288941302 My psychiatrist just told me I have paranoid schizophrenia and PTSD and I never thought to ask the difference because I thought the two were quite different. I was told the reason they probably didn't diagnose me with schizoaffective disorder and PTSD instead was because the PTSD can cause you to get sad for no reason (which I overcame that without the help of medication and I get AWSUM now instead of getting sad) and now I know I mistook my anxiety for depression.

Avatar f tn Yes you can have PTSD and any mental illness for that matter for years and not know it. It's not like you're immediately informed of your condition when you develop any disorder. PTSD can also have some psychotic symptoms, they aren't just exclusive to things like schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood. In psychotic disorder medication is a very good way to treat symptoms. Therapy is always a plus.

144586 tn?1284666164 s amazing how they feel a veteran should not be allowed to get a firearm when they have proven in WAR THAT THEY ARE THE MOST RESPONSIBLE PERSON IN THE US TO CARRY ONE AND ARE BEYOND CAREFUL! PTSD IS SEEING SOMETHING THAT IS EXTREMELY SHOCKING TO A SOLDIER AND ANYONE GOING THRU A SHOCKING EXPERIENCE. LESS THEN 3% OF THE US POPULATION CAN LIVE WITH THE FACT OF HAVING TO KILL SOMEONE, EVEN IN WAR THIS IS WHY MOST SOLDIERS HAVE PTSD.
Avatar n tn I had a school counselor who would try to diagnose me with everything (maybe you have bpd, maybe you have OCD, maybe you have ADHD) and then when I told her the diagnosis I had from my doctor (PTSD, psychosis) then she would try to dismiss it and re-diagnose me. She would also tell other students my very specific problems and then get angry / yell at me when I told her I don't want medication. This has stopped a year ago, but I found out she does the exact same thing to other students.
Avatar n tn I'm a teenage female diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression with psychotic symptoms, and PTSD. Today at school I was walking to another class, then I have a gap in my memory except for some vague images of a bathroom, and then I found myself walking around outside the school. I had my coat & bags like I was ready to leave, but it wasn't the end of the day. I got upset since I had no idea how I had gotten there or what was going on.

Avatar n tn Are you saying that you have symptoms of PTSD, and you believe it was triggered, or caused by adrenal insufficiency that is the result of head trauma? I do believe that traumatic stress can be a result of existing adrenal insufficiency. My son had a lot of stress, prior to being diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency ( as a result of a pituitary cyst ). He has been on hydrocortisone for almost 2 years, and rarely feels the type of stress he had before the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Hello there! The logical side of you KNOWS that this is anxiety and is to be expected after stressful events in your life (ie your break up), but the anxiety fueled side of you runs with the "what if" thoughts. The fear of "going crazy" is a very common one among anxiety sufferers, I've been there myself. Anxiety disorders are totally different from psychotic disorders.
