Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar f tn Of course stressors may worsen the onset of any disability. And childhood trauma may be one of the root causes of borderline personality disorder although there may be some genetic factors. And post traumatic stress disorder is of course a reaction to something horrific and traumatic in nature.
7850965 tn?1524403764 I have been diagnosed with PTSD and Schizophrenia - I have been having flashbacks of my childhood since I was about 30 years old my therapist wants me on medication so she can have me stable when we have our sessions. Why do I need to remember what happened? Is recovering all these suppressed memories really going to help me heal. I feel the damage has been done.
1546631 tn?1321643204 I wanted to welcome everyone who joins this group. Thank you for joining, and I look forward to sharing the ups and downs of raising our little ones affected by childhood mental illness. I'll start with our story, my 8yo little boy has current diagnoses of psychotic disorder NOS, mood disorder NOS, and ADHD, combined type. We are pending diagnoses of Schizoaffective disorder, Bipolar disorder with psychosis. It's been a rough road, and still is.
Avatar f tn My daughter has arachnoid cyst ~4cm (MRI) in her left temporal lobe, diagnosed with bipolar at age 18, now she is 20, - several maniac episods and hospitalizations. No bipolar in a family. She had headaches in childhood , some confusion in her thinking process (?). Lithium is not as effective as depakot ( that is unti-convolution medication) for mood stabilizing.
1965148 tn?1354978634 Hey Elinah, I have experienced two psychotic manic episodes after being put on antidepressants. They both lasted at least a week. It started out as a feeling of increased euphoria, racing thoughts, confidence boost, insomnia and impulsiveness. These symptoms progressed and got more intense as time went on, and after a few days my thoughts began to turn sinister. I started having hallucinations and hearing voices telling me to kill myself and others.
Avatar f tn I was also put on Phenobarbital for around 9 months when the Ritalin did not appear to be working. The Phenobarbital made me psychotic and prone to violent meltdowns. It was several months before anyone made the connection. I was then returned to Ritalin and remained on it until I reached puberty. When I was in my mid-20's I spontaneously developed complex-partial temporal lobe seizures. I had about 4 or 5 a year until my mid-30's when they went away and haven't been back.
Avatar f tn Drug abuse and use can present some Bipolar like symptoms - Meta amphetamine can present manic and psychotic symptoms very easily and in bipolars it can lead to complete psychotic mania. The reality is most of this behaviour does not on the face of it sound bipolar - it does sound like a personality disorder or sociopathic personality.
Avatar m tn ve had a constant dull pain in my head in addition to frequent and consistent migraines (classic without aura) my entire life (including childhood). I also hallucinate frequently (not due to a psychotic break or Schizophrenia etc according to a variety of psychiatrists).
Avatar f tn Yes you can have PTSD and any mental illness for that matter for years and not know it. It's not like you're immediately informed of your condition when you develop any disorder. PTSD can also have some psychotic symptoms, they aren't just exclusive to things like schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar f tn There is growing interest, but little consensus, regarding the behavioral and affective symptoms in childhood and adolescence preceding the first onset of a clearly diagnosable Bipolar Disorder. Early onset is generally considered to be anything under the age of 25 and it appears that the earlier the age of onset, the more likely there is a significant family history of Bipolar Disorder.
728480 tn?1312059930 For a person with borderline personality disorder, however, part of the cause of it is a traumatic childhood experience. And for ptsd, a person would not have acquired it otherwise but the traumatic experiences caused brain changes. And people would say psychiatry isn't up on the exact chemical mechanisms of the brain but the experimental treatment for schizoaffective I am on targets the receptors in an exact manner and the genetic studies of schizophrenia proved this.
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
Avatar f tn should my son have a biopsy to check for lymphoma?
585414 tn?1288941302 at my expense and continuing efforts to try to control me which are part of her symptoms. Her therapist agrees with this and at times of rationality my mother can. She is approaching the idea of seeing a psychiatrist. However, I would just remain apart from her at these times but I have severe tardive dyskinesia and need physical assistance which she sometimes provides. I have applied for every benefit I'm eligible for and other family members help but can't always.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
Avatar n tn My 11 yr old son has been experiencing palpitations and difficulty breathing with exercise. He has been seeing a pediatric cardiologist. He has had a 30 day event monitor which just showed SVPB's and occasional tachycardia. The cardiologist said that was normal. He had a stress test and it showed frequent PVC's and bigeminy. Again, the cardiologist said that was normal. I asked why these symptoms are worse when he exercises, he said he is not sure because all of his teats were normal.
Avatar n tn While it is true that your daughter has a slightly higher risk of developing MS because of her daddy, I would not assume that this is the cause of your daughter's symptoms. I hope that you will get her to the doctor, post haste and please, get back in touch with us and let us know what has happened. We are so glad that you posted and look forwarding to hearing from you again. Big ((((HUGS))))) from all of us on the forum.
918457 tn?1244645682 I got diagnosed in my twenties as childhood psychotic, then came schizophrenia, then Schizo-affective, then manic depression, now hypomanic. Question: I have been having all my symptoms since 2nd grade. Could not sit still, shut up, constant thoughts racing, daydreaming, no focus or concentration, but I like the constant movement. Others don't. Been on over 30-40 psych meds. I only have felt calmer when on Strattera.

603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar f tn I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors. I like ILADVOCATE had symptoms since I was a small child and had my first full blown psychotic break about a year and a half ago or longer, I'm not sure I can't keep track of this crap like this. But after I had it I have never got back up to baseline yet since and I seem to relapse easily to varying extents.
