Avatar n tn Is there a syndrome/symptom of depression showing up in Vietnam War era military personnel who did not participate in the War directly? I served in the Air Force from 1964-1985 and had strong feelings about the war while it was happening and some of them continue to this day. I cannot seem to hear, see, or read anything about the war-time experiences of my fellow vetereans without having tears well up.
148588 tn?1465778809 It’s scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era,” Trump said in a video that resurfaced Tuesday on Buzzfeed, “It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.” It wasn’t the only time the Republican frontrunner for president would liken his personal life to wartime service: Trump has claimed that his military-themed boarding school education was essentially equivalent to having being trained in the military.
Avatar f tn I have done research on agent orange exposure and a whole list of health problems in children and grandchildren of vietnam vets. My dad was in vietnam and was exposed to it, and i wonder if my lifetime of anxiety and bouts of depression could be linked to agent orange. Does anyone have links or info, or who suspect their health issues may be linked too?

Avatar m tn It is no longer a topic of debate that the fighting during the Vietnam War was demonstrably more intense than was ever experienced in previous American conflicts. As the war progressed and the public began to question its legitimacy, instances of psychological breakdown increased. The American Psychiatric Association first codified post-traumatic stress disorder and included it in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders III in 1980.
Avatar n tn I am a Vietnam Veteran having serving 17 Months in that Country from Sept.1968 through December 1969.. In 2001 I was diagnosed with polymyositis. I am looking for evidence that this disease could have an underlying cause due to the extreme use of Agent Orange in the Republic of Vietnam. Is there literature supporting this theory ?? If so can you direct me to this literature or give me your Medical opinion.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with dissociative disorder and ptsd before i had a major psychotic episode where i felt everything was repeating itself war, protests from the native people blocking major highways, noise of airplanes, it was canada day. I am a survivor of a war, my city was under siege for two months i lost friends at 14, I've seen a lot of sadness in my younger years but i don't understand why this hit me at 41. I am scared to be in that mental state again.
Avatar f tn It was very hard times during the Vietnam War. So much hate and protesting. I remember the protestors by the base and comments even made to us kids on our way to school. They thought they were doing the right thing but they didnt understand that they could protest cuz of the ones who sacrificed their lives for our country. They didnt have a real grasp on freedom at that time. I remember when my best friends dad died. Her 2 brothers were in Vietnam.

17183 tn?1332094858 "Most Vets are humble and do not seek praise." So very true, so I will speak for my husband, who served. USMC, Vietnam, 1968-1970, Bravo Company. He was Gunnery Sargeant in the field; his platoon of almost 50 ended up being left with 8 men his first time out (Tet offensive '69); he spent 13 months in the bush. The second tour he spent mostly as an MP but got in trouble for having a penchant for constantly whistle-blowing COs. :) A belated Happy Veteran's Day to you.

Avatar f tn it is without doubt that the soldiers sailors airmen and marines that fought in desert storm were without doubt the finest troops our military has ever assembled. We restored pride and confidence in our military that was absent since the Vietnam war. I still vividly recall when I came back to Bragg a Vietnam vet was there and he approached me and gave me a salute which I promptly returned.
Avatar f tn As a combat veteran of two tours in Vietnam with twenty-two years of service as a Republican member of the U.S. House and Senate, I endorse President Barack Obama for a second term as our Commander-in-Chief. Candidates publicly praise our service members, veterans and their families, but President Obama supports them in word and deed, anywhere and every time.
572651 tn?1530999357 They are also now taking Korean War vets and Vietnam vets who are at the end of their life, to DC. It is just one small way to repay these vets. My father was also adopted as a pen pal for a local 8th grade student and on Friday their school had a program/ceremony for their vets. There were about 70 WWII vets in attendance, and Dad got a big kick out of all the attention and the effort the school put into this program.
Avatar n tn I am veteran of Vietnam who was engaged in heavy combat in 1968 and 69. I have suffered from post traumatic stress syndrome since returning and have been treated in recent years. I have had the typical chronic symptoms of nightmares, anxiety, sleeplessness, restlesness and depression over the many years since I returned.
Avatar m tn • Review the Vietnam Medal of Honor Citation page which contains the names and citations of the 243 men who received the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War. If the man's name is not on the Vietnam Medal of Honor Citation page he is not a recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions during the Vietnam War. You have a judgement call to make if you identify a man who is falsely stating that he is a Medal of Honor recipient.

Avatar f tn Here's a quote from a government employee who witnessed recently between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester. There were protesters at the grocery store handing out pamphlets on the evils of America . I politely declined to take one. There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.
748902 tn?1286034758 They were all sobering! The Korean War Memorial is larger than life-size and is made with every detail from the worry on a soldier's face to the antenna on the radio he carried on his back. There was a memorial that stated these words, which I will never forget ... "Freedom is not Free" At the Vietnam Memorial the names on the stones went on and on and on ... and moved a person to silence and reverence realizing that all those people lost their lives ... fathers, sons ...
