psychotic

Avatar f tn This does not mean that all Bipolar I patients have psychotic episodes and that a Bipolar II personality cannot have a psychcotic episode. There are too many factors involved to accurately determine who will and will not have an episode. I'm diagnosised as Bipolar I with psychotic features but I'm not in a constant state of psychosis. Actually, most of the time I am not.
1360950 tn?1277656603 Antipsychotics are often used as mood stabilizers, and some of them are really very effective for that purpose. Many patients who have never had psychotic symptoms (patients with depression which has not responded to just an antidepressant, for instance) are finding that the addition of an "atypical" or newer antipsychotic can be helpful. This is an example of the problem with names in pharmacology.
Avatar m tn I was up and down for a while after the birth of my fourth beautiful baby. Then one night I stayed awake all night and that was it, I plunged into a very severe depression. I could not hold down water, struggled with an antidepressant for one month also with zanax. It was not getting any better, really it was very severe and I became like a skeleton and very irrational.
1256303 tn?1291752568 My second question is how do I (and of course, my psychiatrist) differentiate between whether I am bipolar with psychotic features or schizo-affective? I definitely have the cycles of mania and depression, starting about three years ago, would have auditory and visual hallucinations when severely depressed. Recently with this batch of mania, I have begun to have the auditory hallucinations too, as well as visual. I also am having some problems with disorganized thoughts and speech and delusions.
Avatar f tn “Bath Salts” is an awful drug, they are so addicting that users crave the drug even after experiencing a trip to the Emergency Room with psychotic episodes brought on by hallucinations and delusions of super-human strength. Unlike Meth and Cocaine, however, standard Emergency Room procedures for treating Meth and Cocaine overdose do not work well with “Bath Salts.

Avatar f tn Arachnoid cysts are a collection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF, the fluid that covers the brain and spinal cord) between two layers of tissue called the arachnoid. They are thought to be present from birth in the large majority of patients. They can occur in any location within the brain. They are often incidental findings with no symptoms and with no consequences. However, when they do cause symptoms, that could include headaches, seizures, and in some rare instances psychiatric problems.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...

Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?

915369 tn?1355314810 I've been questioning my diagnosis for the past couple of months so I figured I'd ask on this forum and see what a doctor thinks about it. I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features.
919239 tn?1269394658 Seroquel is an anti-psychotic and should not be prescribed for depression since it's basically a serotonin antagonist. I know it is sometimes prescribed off-label for depression but it is very rare and i don't understand why would one prescribe Seroquel for depression. Have you tried SSRI or SNRIs? A reuptake inhibition of a neurotransmitter is way better, in my humble opionion, than the inhibition of the receptors implied with serotonin neurotransmitter.
Avatar m tn I did a quick check on the use of Ritalin on depressed patients. This is a quote from their package insert: "Ritalin should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients, such as those with a history of drug dependence or alcoholism, because such patients may increase dosage on their own initiative. Chronically abusive use can lead to marked tolerance and psychic dependence with varying degrees of abnormal behavior.

Avatar f tn Schizophrenia and some forms of bipolar have psychosis as part of this which does need an antipsychotic (for example I have schizoaffective disorder, there is also bipolar with psychotic features} to treat the psychosis. However only a psychiatrist can make a full decision about this within their clinical discretion. But it would be worthwhile to ask them specifically why they believe psychosis or any related concerns might not be occurring and why lithium alone will be able to help.
Avatar f tn She is 42 years old and keeps landing back in the hospital with psychotic symptoms. There have been times in her life where she has functioned quite well and even worked part-time. She is currently on 2mg of Risperdol b.i.d. 400 mg. Serequel at night, .05 kolonopin b.i.
Avatar n tn A person from my family went undiagnosed for many years despite strange behavior, only when she had a psychotic episode did she allow us to take her to a doctor and was diagnosed with paranoid disorder. The symptoms fit her "usual" symptoms (i.e. those she's had for years) - relatively coherent delusions of being disliked, plotted against, of her flat being bugged, someone stealing things when she's out.
