I would talk to her about her mental health issues with no judgement. You can decide if it is too much for you to stick with since you are dating and not married but she will likely really appreciate being able to be honest with you and your listening.

Thats a freaking anti-psychotic medication..... better figure out the pharmocology before you take something blind.............benadryl is much better for sleep...but then again thorazine puts you down pretty well if you like that kind of thing.

I am a firm believer and active caregiver for one who was given interferon for HCV and subsequently had psychotic/depressive episodes (severe) for a 3 year period. My spouse was diagnosed in 2002 with HCV.....prior to that was working, actively engaged in life....after attempting the HCV trmt interferon with Ribaviran for less than 2 wks had a psychotic break and then was but on an antidepressant.

Last week we received some devastating news about a close family member. Since the news, she has become... Delusional as best I can tell. Conversation with her is disjointed, her responses are invariably unrelated to the topic of conversation and she stares blankly at whomever or whatever has caught her attention. I am confused though as she has never exhibited this type of behaviour as a symptom of mania. In my humble opinion, she is having some kind of psychotic episode.

On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. Not every breakdown is psychotic. I had a complete mental breakdown about 16 years ago or so which lead to 3 years of crushing depression - my illness course leaves me prone to this type of breakdown. However not being on meds? Dont know - i went nearly 15 years not on meds and i thought i was fine until I wasnt and went psychotic manic, so you might be fine for a long time as well. And I wasnt fine, I was hypomanic and looking back had at least 3 mini breakdowns and burnouts in that time.

My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? I now know I always had behavior that was unusual and somewhat abnormal since I was a child, first started having psychotic thoughts when I was 13 and then at the age of 18 had a full psychotic break. I never really felt like myself until I started that treatment in clinical study but once I did could look back and see that I always had behavior patterns and obsessions that were markedly abnormal.

Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?

I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.

Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.

Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.

My second question is how do I (and of course, my psychiatrist) differentiate between whether I am bipolar with psychotic features or schizo-affective? I definitely have the cycles of mania and depression, starting about three years ago, would have auditory and visual hallucinations when severely depressed. Recently with this batch of mania, I have begun to have the auditory hallucinations too, as well as visual. I also am having some problems with disorganized thoughts and speech and delusions.

How long does this psychotic behavior last? And is the psychotic behavior as a result of withdrawal. I have been using Cranberry Juice to flush it out of my son's system. He is not bipolar for he does not get sad. Bipolars get sad, not angry. My son never gets sad. He gets psychotic from good mood to psychotic mood in a split second within a conversation. I, the mother, is always on eggshells with him.

t know whether i am cycloth... or BP2 or BP1 but sure i had psychotic symptoms so may be BP1. But again my 1st mania occurred only under AD's as well as all the other 3 manias. But the latter weren't true mania just hypomanias for a few days but still due to AD's which I rushed in time to kill. Now this time my 2nd full blown mania stayed for 7 months now which is nonsense and my AP's are greater in dose than before. Can a mania stay that long or perhaps i changed from cycloth...
