Avatar f tn Do all people with bipolar or any other mental illnesses suffer from a breakdown? I for one never had one. I was speaking to a social worker and he told me in my case it may because I have the support or maybe I have some sort of control that enables me to make it pass the days. He also seem surprise because I am not on meds. I told him they bring on any attacks and make them worst. So I just been going on a day to day basis.
1351968 tn?1278205300 No bipolar disorder will not turn into schizophrenia if not treated, the two are totally different illnesses. However, the two can sometimes be mixed up when a doctor is initially trying to diagnose someone. Bipolar disorder is an illness where the chemical inbalance in someone's brain causes their moods to be more extreme than those without the disorder. It also causes the moods to shift between the extremes (that's the difference between bipolar disorder and unipolar depression).
Avatar m tn I have just read the success of a medical investigative team using vitamin B3 (niacin) to treat general anxiety disorder instead of the now widely criticised ansiolotics especially diazepams like Xanax. My doctors have been dismissive of B3 even for redution of cholesterol. I haven't tried them yet on this new finding.
Avatar m tn Abilify is an anti-psychotic med commonly used to treat psychotic illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schitzophrenia, etc. It is sometimes used as an adjunct treatment (in addition to another antidepressant) to treat clinical depression, alrthough I've honestly never heard of it being Rx'ed alone for depression. That doesn't mean it isn't done or that it won't help, I'm just telling you the common uses.
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
Avatar f tn My bipolar husband has become extremely controlling. I read others' posts and it's like he's being described to a T, so I guess I'm not alone.
Avatar f tn I have had only 1 mild paranoid event during mania that came years after my first recognized mania, so I obviously DO NOT understand psychotic features of BP at all. But my ex-husband has had many psychotic events. He has Bipolar Disorder w/ psychotic features. He has gone into psychosis many times, and is extremely paranoid. After reading the Bipolar Child I see that he has been bipolar his whole life, and has only been diagnosed 3 months ago.
Avatar n tn fatigue (extreme tiredness, very easily fatigued upon exertion), hair thinning, memory/concentration issues, low extremely sensitive to cold (my body temperature averages around 96.6), often have very cold hands to the point my fingers get stiff, etc. Recently I got off birth control pills and discovered I did not get a period for several months, and didn't get one until I got back on the pill.
937868 tn?1570328281 The best hope you have is that the diagnoses aren't correct. ADD is often misdiagnosed, so make sure you get more than one opinion. Different people also perform different with this, so one would assume a high-performer who can adapt better to it will have a better chance of not needing medication.
717440 tn?1292743742 That's complex because it depends on what specific type of bipolar a person's psychiatrist diagnosed. A person with bipolar with psychotic features usually requires an antipsychotic in addition to a mood stabilizer for example. For some people anti-depressents can worsen mania but if there is treatment refractory depression as an aspect of bipolar then a psychiatrist might use one.
Avatar n tn A person from my family went undiagnosed for many years despite strange behavior, only when she had a psychotic episode did she allow us to take her to a doctor and was diagnosed with paranoid disorder. The symptoms fit her "usual" symptoms (i.e. those she's had for years) - relatively coherent delusions of being disliked, plotted against, of her flat being bugged, someone stealing things when she's out.
Avatar f tn It sounds as though your Mom is having psychotic episodes. That doesn't mean she is "crazy", or will be diagnosed with schizophrenia, or other psychotic illness. Sometimes, certain medications can cause psychotic symptoms, or even effects of certain diseases (when a diabetic's sugar gets VERY high or very low, this can happen). What I am saying is this is definitely something she needs evaluated for.
765769 tn?1343534291 There could be a lot of different mental illnesses your friend suffers from. It's obvious she is having psychotic episodes, and may be dangerous to herself or others. Does she have any close family you could talk to? It really sounds like she needs intensive inpatient psychiatric care. She really needs to be thoroughly assessed. If you could help her to make that happen, that wouild be great.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from OCD since 9 years and I had taken various types of SSRIs (prescribed by psychiatrists) during last four years I was on a high dose of Lavox with some psychotic drugs and and Clomaphranil. These drugs cause me to have a lot of sleep , I usually sleep about 12-14 hours a day. During these four years I had done nothing, I had not watched any movie,TV show not any game, sports and even had not participate in any type of social activity.
Avatar f tn She prescribed me a anti-psychotic. I heard so many horrible things about this type of medication, like developing permanent neurological problems. I read these horrible stories about doctors prescibing it to infants, why would a baby need a anti-psychotic? I feel like they just give these medications to anyone without a proper diagnoses. I feel like the presription was inappropriate. This is the only doctor I can see because I have no insurance and she is the only state doctor available.
Avatar m tn ve been tested for all STDs except for HIV as i was nervous, all negative. I was tested for all other types of illnesses, all negative... I know this forum says no risk from Oral, but i cannot shake these illnesses and they all started 2-4 weeks after my encounter.
Avatar f tn Could someone please list out any diseases/illnesses related to chiari malformations. Since I haven't been able to get any helpful answers from my doctors, I am looking into what might be causing my symptoms myself. My main two problems that I still have even after my surgery in 2007, are a horrible daze feeling 24/7 plus I see a kaleidoscope of colors in front of my vision field 24/7, even with my eyes closed. Thank you so much I greatly appreciate your time!
Avatar f tn The poster also states they suffer from bipolar, and cutting out dairy is highly unlikely to affect psychotic illnesses. I guess anything is possible, but highly unlikely. I'm also not sure there is no test for the common food allergens such as dairy and modern wheat and soy. As you say, if you do an elimination diet that is a way of testing for it.
Avatar n tn The DSM-4 is another used specifically by psychiatrists. That might have the more familiar terms for types of bipolar. Most importantly is what they have found that is of specific concern and what medications they might prescribe.
1524669 tn?1291423170 Are you asking what types of food are good to help nausea, or what types of food are good with the medicine, or what types of food are good to help xxx? The question is not clear to me. Also, you are asking other patients like yourself - have you asked the guidance of your doctor?
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been getting this strange sensation that someone is holding a cold cloth on my lower back. It comes and goes and it's happened before but that was a few years ago. Lasted a month or so then and it's been a week or so now. I've never had any back injuries and don't have any chronic illnesses. I have had 2 epidurals and 2 spinals in my lifetime. I'm not sure if it could be related. I have read some info on MS causing these types of symptoms. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Tell her to wash her hands more often because proper hygiene helps prevent the spread of those types of illnesses.
Avatar m tn ve been taking paxill and lithium for a while now and the both seem to be wearing off. Also take an anti-psychotic medication called perphenazine that was helping me for a while but that also wore off too. The clonezepam still seems to help with my anxiety and I still use the trazadone for my sleep problems. I know it all seems like alot of medication but for a little while it seemed to work.
Avatar f tn I know because that was me for five years I was diagnosed with it as a form of bi-polar disorder. I have been off all anti-psychotic meds now since 1997 and take nothing but something for insomnia and am sober as well. But besides multiple medications related to bipolar disease I was on Thorazine for the hallucinations from 1991 through 1996. It is not BOTH. Schizophrenia doesn't just appear one day. here is some information: https://www.mind.org.
4629663 tn?1357698594 Hi and welcome. Yes, illnesses, including the garden variety colds and flu, are definitely not good for MSers. They stimulate the immune system, and may also stimulate what's wrong with our central nervous systems in the process. That can mean worse ongoing symptoms or a new relapse. The big majority of MS doctors urge their patients to get flu shots because of this, though a few discourage it. We can't always help what we catch, but we can do our best to stay out of harm's way.
