Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic features hearing voices

psychotic

Avatar n tn When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features.

1965148 tn?1354978634 can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.
719785 tn?1232901518 If a person has schizoaffective disorder or bipolar with psychotic features they need a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic as I take. The links page has cogent information on mood stabilizers and anti-depressents.
Avatar n tn She is seeing help and is being treated, and was diagnosed with bipolar 2 and mania. She recently has begun hearing voices telling her to kill one of her friends, and telling her that someone wants to hurt her. I'm only fourteen, her parents dont care - they wont pay attention if anyone says something. If we tell the school shell be sent away immidiately, does she really need that? she is convinced the voices are magic. what do i do? i cant let her hurt herself or anyone else...
Avatar n tn Depression with psychotic features is when a person has psychotic thoughts only during mood fluctuations. With schizoaffective disorder psychotic thoughts or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) can occur at any time. But as to how to look at it I'd say look at it as I do, I am a person with a psychiatric disability and I need treatment as part of my recovery. See it as a positive step up in life and keep going from there.
Avatar m tn ILADVOCATE - I was wondering out of curiosity since you brought it up, did the psychiatrist say exactly how people who hear the thought coming as if from an external source commenting on them don't respond well to treatment? Does the medicine just not work as good or does it work physically like it should but just the symptoms still present themselves anyway?
12268405 tn?1427853361 You did not create the hallucination of fleas all over, you did not make your symptoms of feeling worthless, paranoid, or hearing voices. These things happened because of the schizophrenia disorder. The newer drug Minocyline, since it is used as an antibiotic, it also reduces inflammation. Lately, the drug treatment world is beginning to think one of the causes of many neuro-type disorders is inflammation! So, you take a drug for it, and there you go!
Avatar n tn Hearing voices is not a symptom of ADHD or ADD. It is a symptom of some other mental problems, however. The fact that he hears voices, can see people who are not there, and that his brother has the same symptoms means that you should have both children evaluated by a psychiatrist as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn I had a very close relative who has been experiencing thoughts of people conspiring against her,(she has been an extreme alcoholic for years now) she's hearing them speak about her in a matter where she thinks they are plotting against her or want to kill her. She's fine around people as long as they are directly speaking to her and not at a distance on the phone or talking to someone else in a different room.
Avatar f tn Depression, dementia, alcohol abuse, migraines, diabetes, abuse of certain drugs etc can also cause auditory hallucinations or hearing voices. It can also be a part of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, shared psychotic disorder, brief psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, substance-induced psychotic disorder. Hence it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. Take care!
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar f tn ve made a good recovery from schizoaffective which clinically is a step further than bipolar with psychotic features as in bipolar with psychotic features a person has delusions and hears voices during moodswings and in schizoaffective disorder its all the time. Even with current treatment the symptoms can be mitigated. He should have his psychiatrist follow up as to an exact diagnosis and when the onset of it was.
603015 tn?1329862973 Well "hearing voices" (auditory hallucinations) and paranoia are more psychosis than bipolar so perhaps its bipolar with psychotic features. As per myself I know well what hypomanic is. I experienced that before recovery and in the brief period in between Clonidine and Zofran. On a hypomanic day I would go to the city and buy a lot of cd's and chat with the record store clerks I hardly knew and everything appeared like it was rushing at me and like it was the best day I ever had.
Avatar f tn m wondering is can it be possible to suffer with paranoid schizophrenia without hearing voices/more common psychosis? I don't want to have been misdiagnosed or start to hear voices later in life!
3058980 tn?1340515938 I know a lot of bipolar people on seroquel and lamotrigine and have never heard of one breast story from them for example. Although if he is hearing voices without mood swings, sounds a bit more like schizophrenia, or schizo-affective (bipolar + some of the aspects of schizophrenia).
Avatar f tn I hate to admit this, but i feel this is a safe place to admit that i was hearing voices. Now, fortunately, i am on a new antidepressant and an anti-psych, so i am picking back up! Thanks again.
11570509 tn?1422387166 But when I get a headache, the back of my neck/head swells and when it gets bad, I start hearing voices, screeching and loud knocking noises. It also feels as if there are people touching me, pulling at me, my skin crawls like there are ants inside of me. Also I see flashing lights, floaters, my vision gets blurry and distorted as if I am looking into those trick mirrors at carnivals. I am scared of being labeled depressed and psychotic by doctors so I don't say anything.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am interested in receiving detailed information about those who hear voices inside their heads or with their ears. I have recorded the voice I hear on a recorder so I know it's not a medical condition, but yet I have to deal with it. I know of many who do hear voices in their heads and I believe it would be beneficial for myself and others to know the specifics as to how a voice not recognized by a person could possibly be heard inside their head.
1564087 tn?1308947518 d have to find out the specifics of your diagnosis as hallucinations can occur in bipolar with psychotic features (and schizoaffective disorder such as I have) and there are many subtypes of bipolar and hallucinations and psychosis can occur in some. If you have concerns about the side effects of Seroquel it would be essential to speak to your psychiatrist and discuss what other medication might not be unsafe to take as regards heart disease.
Avatar m tn Remember each person and the specific auditory or other hallucinations they have is different. Bipolar with psychotic features or schizoaffective may be a very specific criteria but like with anything no one experiences it exactly the same way. They are learning more about this.
Avatar n tn me and my siblings and now my 4 children have heard these voices in times of fever. for us and others it features high jabbering.

603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
629641 tn?1368569578 Sometimes I hear voices, but what I hear doesn't seem to be talking to me; it's more of a boring lecture going on in the background. Often it sounds like my mother. The sound of the voice always causes bored annoyance. I have not tried to tune in and understand what the words are; I believe it's lectures that I've heard in the past or other uninteresting information.
