Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar n tn i agree, mine to, but maby thats cuz i, like many pepole here are probably really badly addicted to drugs,
5051252 tn?1362970368 What you are experiencing is in the class of neurological events called (loosely) a psychotic episode. I have them, too, but mine are very mild... I just see some shadows that aren't there sometimes. Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible, to rule out things like your brain not receiving enough oxygen, blood work to rule out any danger of diabetes or low blood counts, things of that sort.
1256303 tn?1291752568 For schizoaffective, you have to have the psychosis part (the part A criterion for schizophrenia) for at least 2 weeks without being in the middle of a mood episode. If you only ever have psychosis while in a mood episode, then it's probably bipolar with psychotic features. But it doesn't really matter from a treatment standpoint; you'll need an antipsychotic and maybe lithium/an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer as well to control the bipolar and the psychosis either way.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn psychotherapy is crucial for real change. it can be painful, but just remember, it takes courage to cry. it is also important to go often. some suggest two days a week minimum. this is because defenses tend to turn up their volume when we enter therapy and it is important to keep the flood of feelings that are coming out near the surface. psychotherapy once a month for example can be useless as it just creates an illusion of wellness for the patient.
728480 tn?1312059930 t experience normal feelings that need psychotherapy. And there are complex issues. The dissociation I experience is neurological in origin but the way it expresses itself is because of the traumatic experinces I have experienced as a child (being that my primary disability, schizoaffective disorder is in recovery and I don't experience standard psychosis). For a person with borderline personality disorder, however, part of the cause of it is a traumatic childhood experience.
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1360950 tn?1277656603 I am not in an episode and have had hallucinations very rarely, I do not understand why I must take a mood stabilizer and an antiphyscotic? How do they differ?
Avatar n tn If it were me I would probably continue taking the klonopin (for a short period) and get myself into some good psychotherapy to help address underlying issues. (Unless the anxiety is a result of a medication issue which one could perhaps expect to resolve itself with good treatment planning and management.) I personally wouldn't consider taking any other psychiatric med (unless it was indicated for another psych disorder, like bipolar for example). Headaches can be a challenge.
1439426 tn?1283970705 Is it possible to hallucinate while having a mixed episode? I believe I have.
Avatar f tn Hello. What is a better exam of the brain to see if a psychotic episode history is caused by something in the brain, ex. tumor etc.? MRI or CT scan? And why? Thank you.
230948 tn?1235844329 Hi, I had a psychotic episode after being on fentanol pain patches for just a few weeks. I was hallucinating, having vivid dreams and felt really sedated. I use Lidoderm patches instead and don't have any side effects from it. I LOVE Lyrica and wouldn't give it up for nothing or anyone -- I would certainly challenge my dr before giving it up. I'm sorry your hubby left you and your children. Concentrate on getting better and if you and he work it out later then it was meant to be.
1818882 tn?1317071318 It sounds like he possibly has severe depression. Some people with severe depression also have psychotic features (depression with psychotic features). It could be worth considering what happened a month ago to trigger this current state. I think encourage him to see a psychiatrist and perhaps look to follow that up with psychotherapy. You could ask him if he would like you to attend his appointment with him as a support person, etc.
933174 tn?1375792553 Do you think the psychotic breakdown I described was a mixed state gone over the edge? You know luckily I haven't had a psychotic episode like that since I've been taking effexor. The effexor really helped a lot. I thank God for it because I was ready to commit suicide. I basically was in psychosis for the whole summer.
Avatar m tn Well, I have had bad anxiety the last month. It all started after I tried to ween off klonopin so that I could get approved by the FAA for a physical. When I was almost done with the weening I started to have bad anxiety. I went back on to my klonopin and it didn't help much. I didn't feel normal anymore, and after a month got depressed. I asked my psychiatrist if I was going crazy and he said I just had GAD.
Avatar f tn 1st, having an initial psychotic episode at 38 is unusual, so it is probably not something squarely in the "psychotic family" of conditions. It is possible (although unlikely) to have an initial manic episode after having previous depressive episodes. There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD).
