psychotic

Avatar m tn Its also worth mentioning here that sometimes during this Non-Psychotic state I also do a lot of household work ( both outside and inside ) with enthusiasm although there is depression in my subconscious mind.
1256303 tn?1291752568 For schizoaffective, you have to have the psychosis part (the part A criterion for schizophrenia) for at least 2 weeks without being in the middle of a mood episode. If you only ever have psychosis while in a mood episode, then it's probably bipolar with psychotic features. But it doesn't really matter from a treatment standpoint; you'll need an antipsychotic and maybe lithium/an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer as well to control the bipolar and the psychosis either way.
1439426 tn?1283970705 Is it possible to hallucinate while having a mixed episode? I believe I have.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with dissociative disorder and ptsd before i had a major psychotic episode where i felt everything was repeating itself war, protests from the native people blocking major highways, noise of airplanes, it was canada day. I am a survivor of a war, my city was under siege for two months i lost friends at 14, I've seen a lot of sadness in my younger years but i don't understand why this hit me at 41. I am scared to be in that mental state again.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar n tn The medications seem appropriate for the diagnosis. There is some debate how long someone should take meds after an episode of major depression. Has he had previous episodes of depression?
Avatar f tn 1st, having an initial psychotic episode at 38 is unusual, so it is probably not something squarely in the "psychotic family" of conditions. It is possible (although unlikely) to have an initial manic episode after having previous depressive episodes. There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD).
933174 tn?1375792553 Do you think the psychotic breakdown I described was a mixed state gone over the edge? You know luckily I haven't had a psychotic episode like that since I've been taking effexor. The effexor really helped a lot. I thank God for it because I was ready to commit suicide. I basically was in psychosis for the whole summer.

Avatar f tn What is the difference between hypomania and a fully manic episode? I am thinking that a fullt manic episode includes symptoms of psychosis?
Avatar f tn My bipolar husband has become extremely controlling. I read others' posts and it's like he's being described to a T, so I guess I'm not alone.
Avatar n tn When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features.
5051252 tn?1362970368 What you are experiencing is in the class of neurological events called (loosely) a psychotic episode. I have them, too, but mine are very mild... I just see some shadows that aren't there sometimes. Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible, to rule out things like your brain not receiving enough oxygen, blood work to rule out any danger of diabetes or low blood counts, things of that sort.
Avatar m tn Hi there, it sounds like a psychotic episode, it could have been to do with the drugs or it might have happened anyway if you are bipolar.. sometimes people have psychotic episodes and then never have them again, it sounds like your pdoc thinks that you have a long term illness, the only other illness I can think of that would match your symptoms is schizophrenia, but I am not a doctor. Were you depressive at the time of this episode?
Avatar f tn Hey, I'm 18 and currently pregnant. When I was maybe 12-13 years old, a psychiatrist said that he believed that I was border-line bipolar but he couldn't make a diagnosis because I was young and I saw him once. Honestly, I feel as I am way past border-line bipolar. I do believe that I am bipolar and not mildly. Especially being pregnant. So, to answer your question, I believe that if you are not helped or medicated, that bipolar disorder can become a lot worse.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Well the psychiatrist she is seeing could explain her diagnosis to the family but that could be bipolar with psychotic features. That like all psychiatric disabilities is treatable but it takes some time for the medication to build up to a working dose. After that things should begin to stabilize with her and of course the family should follow up to see that she recieves proper outpatient services.
Avatar f tn I have had only 1 mild paranoid event during mania that came years after my first recognized mania, so I obviously DO NOT understand psychotic features of BP at all. But my ex-husband has had many psychotic events. He has Bipolar Disorder w/ psychotic features. He has gone into psychosis many times, and is extremely paranoid. After reading the Bipolar Child I see that he has been bipolar his whole life, and has only been diagnosed 3 months ago.
Avatar m tn Usually for the diagnosis to change from II to I, you have to have had a severe manic episode and/or hallucinations (auditory or visual). Other than that, it matters little.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
