335728 tn?1331414412 Volumetric measures of the hippocampus and the amygdala combined with measures of cannabis use. Subthreshold psychotic symptoms and verbal learning ability were also measured. Results: Cannabis users had bilaterally reduced hippocampal and amygdala volumes (P=.001), with a relatively (and significantly [P=.02]) greater magnitude of reduction in the former (12.0% vs 7.1%).
Avatar m tn i have td myself so i would like to try that if it works.
Avatar f tn I posted it on the bipolar forum as well. I thought it would be good to ask different kinds of people and get more responses. I was doing really well before I smoked and really well a few days after and still continue to do well. I had the reaction right after my mom was taken to the ER (she has lupus). I thought that stress was what triggered the depression and the pot just allowed me to act on my depressive thoughts.
Avatar n tn This can be dangerous to the body, causing extra lung damage, unwanted drug affects, Addiction, restlessness, psychotic episodes, over emotional. You should also consider that you are still inhaling smoke (and/or if "spun" with tobacco) it still damages the lungs and enters the body systems (blood stream, urinary) it may take 3 months for the cannabis to be completely gone from your body so if you are working in a strict, dangerous (contruction etc.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
614508 tn?1265281722 What is the impact of using cannabis when diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder? What is the interaction with the common meds: Lithium, SSRI's. Canada has an ever relaxing policy with respect to cannabis and it may be decriminilized/legalized in the near future. Have their been studies done? (Given the illegality, all I have heard is anecdotal information). Your opinions please.
5051252 tn?1362970368 What you are experiencing is in the class of neurological events called (loosely) a psychotic episode. I have them, too, but mine are very mild... I just see some shadows that aren't there sometimes. Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible, to rule out things like your brain not receiving enough oxygen, blood work to rule out any danger of diabetes or low blood counts, things of that sort.
1256303 tn?1291752568 For schizoaffective, you have to have the psychosis part (the part A criterion for schizophrenia) for at least 2 weeks without being in the middle of a mood episode. If you only ever have psychosis while in a mood episode, then it's probably bipolar with psychotic features. But it doesn't really matter from a treatment standpoint; you'll need an antipsychotic and maybe lithium/an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer as well to control the bipolar and the psychosis either way.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
Avatar n tn I have had this affliction for 38 years and ice packs were the only thing that helped. I tried cannabis infused coconut oil (1 teaspoon at night) and have been itch free for over 8 months. My neurologist tried 21 different medications on me, some were heavy anti-psychotic crossover meds that really made me feel horrible. I never thought in a million years that cannabis would help eliminate my itching. There is also another product that will give you temporary relief.
728313 tn?1260459629 Hello, i am interested in medical evidence I need a source for your info, Quixotic1, especially on MS showing up as psychotic episode. The doctor does not believe this to be possible and is treating a patient with Seroquel when each episode is actually a MS attack, I think. MRI shows multiple lesions which extended after another psychotic episode.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1360950 tn?1277656603 I am not in an episode and have had hallucinations very rarely, I do not understand why I must take a mood stabilizer and an antiphyscotic? How do they differ?
1439426 tn?1283970705 Is it possible to hallucinate while having a mixed episode? I believe I have.
Avatar f tn Hello. What is a better exam of the brain to see if a psychotic episode history is caused by something in the brain, ex. tumor etc.? MRI or CT scan? And why? Thank you.
230948 tn?1235844329 Hi, I had a psychotic episode after being on fentanol pain patches for just a few weeks. I was hallucinating, having vivid dreams and felt really sedated. I use Lidoderm patches instead and don't have any side effects from it. I LOVE Lyrica and wouldn't give it up for nothing or anyone -- I would certainly challenge my dr before giving it up. I'm sorry your hubby left you and your children. Concentrate on getting better and if you and he work it out later then it was meant to be.
933174 tn?1375792553 Do you think the psychotic breakdown I described was a mixed state gone over the edge? You know luckily I haven't had a psychotic episode like that since I've been taking effexor. The effexor really helped a lot. I thank God for it because I was ready to commit suicide. I basically was in psychosis for the whole summer.
Avatar m tn A few weeks ago, I had eaten some edibles with cannabis in them. During the trip, I was having strong palpitations, no doubt from the cannabis, but also because I was anxious at the time and have been suffering from nearly persistent anxiety for a couple years now. I went to lay face down on my bed, when my heart rate suddenly became extremely fast and erratic for about 4 or 5 seconds before it slowed down somewhat into very, very forceful palpitations.
Avatar m tn My wife smoked off and on for years, but this started happening to her, so she stopped. It took awhile after that episode for her to get back to feeling healthy again. She was never a regular user or an addict, she used it like people use 2 beers to relax every so often. It scared here, when she had an anxiety attack. We didn't take her to the ER, but we thought about it.
Avatar f tn 1st, having an initial psychotic episode at 38 is unusual, so it is probably not something squarely in the "psychotic family" of conditions. It is possible (although unlikely) to have an initial manic episode after having previous depressive episodes. There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD).
