Psychotic disorder therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic disorder therapy

psychotic

Avatar f tn I had seen a post by ILADVOCATE about a study he participated in and recovered from schizoafffective disorder. I did read that psychotic symptoms in SD may persist and felt maybe this is what my daughter is.Maybe ILADVOCATE can tell me more about this and the antipsychotic he was on. I have read that glycine helps the MNDR(I may have these letters mixed up) receptors function better and may help psychosis. Where can I get more information about glycine therapy and will medicaid pay for it?
Avatar n tn You could have depression with psychotic features or schizoaffective disorder. I have schizoaffective disorder and the mood disorder aspect is bipolar. I am recovered now with an antipsychotic in Phase II FDA study glycine as I've said on other posts but I know what the experience is like. But there are other forms of schizoaffective disorder that have depression instead of bipolar as the mood phase. And if you have suicidal urges you need to see a psychiatrist right away.
728480 tn?1312059930 Could a personality disorder answer many queries about someones mental state saying the personality covers everything ? etc depressed (someones experiences repressed in memory) seeing things (imagination developed through isolation) not connecting with others (personality non human compatable) ?
1076391 tn?1258412241 First of all don't worry about psychosis, it is just a warning i give you that someone can develop this illness and one of the ways do develop this illness is by using using drugs and LSD is prone to induce a psychosis in person vulnerable to psychosis. You are not psychotic i swear.
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
Avatar f tn I have a family member who has cyclothymia (mild bipolar) anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. I have schizoaffective disorder which is schizophrenia with a mood disorder but was told by my psychiatrist the obsessive thoughts I had and still have to some extent were to mask psychotic thoughts. The best way I found to approach treatment was to underestand how it works and why its being prescribed.
Avatar f tn I don't think you truly "recover" from BP - you become stable and that's a sliding slope that is helped with meds and therapy. It's an incurable disorder and yes, we are disabled, but I don't think we can really recover (if you are meaning cure), but we can, like you said, learn to live with it. Tres1965 - I am sorry for your issues you are dealing with. Cut your Mom a little slack maybe??? What did she do?
Avatar n tn That's not true. When I first developed schizoaffective disorder I knew I was psychotic. I just didn't know how much and why. And yes I needed treatment and because I got the wrong treatment (I was misdiagnosed with ocd and given Anafranil) I ended up in the psychiatric hospital in 1991 (now I am recovered, that was then). If someone is extremely psychotic they may not perceive reality at all but let's hope people get treatment before it approaches that point.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...

Avatar f tn I have had only 1 mild paranoid event during mania that came years after my first recognized mania, so I obviously DO NOT understand psychotic features of BP at all. But my ex-husband has had many psychotic events. He has Bipolar Disorder w/ psychotic features. He has gone into psychosis many times, and is extremely paranoid. After reading the Bipolar Child I see that he has been bipolar his whole life, and has only been diagnosed 3 months ago.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
Avatar f tn ILADVOCATE is right about the blood work. Before I was diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, they tested me for all kinds of crap like with MRIs and tests for syphilis and blood deficiencies and such.
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar m tn put me on Wellbutrin 75mg first which was THE WINNING NUMBER TWICE A DAY. But then he switched me to 300mg ER within a 9 day period so after 9 days I was psychotic got worse the entire situation that is and I was attacked by one truck...Anyhow I just came out after going in again EVERYONE SAID I LEFT TOO SOON..AT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH IN NYC UPSTATE..
Avatar f tn All psychiatrists everywhere know that medication combined with talk therapy is what works to treat schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Of course if someone is psychotic its harder for talk therapy to benefit them. Talk therapy can be beneficial for anyone though even someone without any diagnosed psychiatric disability. And you must remember there are two areas of understanding.
Avatar n tn Offhand these symptoms of paranoia and constantly hearing voices sounds like a psychotic disorder. Whether or not is sz only a psychiatrist can tell. These symptoms can be part of hypermania and schizoaffective disorder too.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar n tn Yes from what you describe he probably does have ocd but compulsive lying to the point where a person believes it themselves is much more than that. It can be part of a personality disorder and is potentially psychotic. Someone can have ocd as well. If he has a family history of depression and bipolar he could have that. Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis.
