1255505 tn?1272819115 substance abuse is the only thing that gives me episodes. I wonder how much of the drugs and alcohol actually starts the process of these disorders. Everyone says I am a patient and kind person and i usually just keep my mouth shut about things. Throw some alcohol into it and i am out of control and telling people what i really think. I may be depressed afterward but i have no remorse for my actions afterward. Sometimes i wonder if it really is a bipolar issue like everyone says it is.
Avatar m tn You may want to consider seeking treatment for your substance abuse issues. I have mental health issues stemming from significant substance abuse. Your life will not get better until you make a change. I am not teetotal, but I have given up drugs, and when I drink I find it creates negative feelings now that I am in a state of recovery so I am moving towards abstinence. When you find something new to live for, aside from drugs and alcohol, they seem less important and life gets better.
Avatar m tn Schizoaffective is schizophrenia with a mood disorder, in my case bipolar but as you are describing depression. I would speak to a psychiatrist. Schizoaffective disorder is actually more common than schizophrenia and more easily treated. You could also have depression with psychotic features. I could explain the difference between the two but a psychiatrist could explain it. That is probably what is going on.
Avatar f tn Adderall is an amphetamine with high potential for abuse, controlled substance, may lead to drug dependence, may exacerbate behavior disturbances and thought disorders, and psychotic episodes. It is true with misuse or abuse may cause heart problems such as heart palpitations, arrhythmia, and even cardiac arrest. Most at risk are individuals that have a preexisting heart condition that the one wasnt aware. Hope this provides a perspective, it is not definitive but a very good question.
Avatar m tn Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, has nothing to do with anxiety. One CAN have an anxiety disorder and also be bipolar but the two conditions are not linked.
Avatar f tn My mom found out when I was admitted to the hospital after a psychotic break. I had symptoms for a long time, and developed substance abuse issues, never realizing I had underlying anxiety and mood issues. Consider yourself lucky that you are realizing this and seek professional help.
Avatar m tn The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., hypothyroidism). E. The symptoms are not better accounted for by bereavement, i.e., after the loss of a loved one, the symptoms persist for longer than 2 months or are characterized by marked functional impairment, morbid preoccupation with worthlessness, suicidal ideation, psychotic symptoms, or psychomotor retardation.

Avatar f tn Hey. First and foremost, thanks to those who make this forum possible. It’s such a valuable resource to so many and a jumping off point for informative dialogue with their PCPs and/or Specialists. A friend of mine is worried about her son and is conflicted on how to help him. Understandably, she doesn’t want to believe he still struggles with drug dependency. Of course, it doesn’t help that he would ferociously deny it, even if he we caught in the act.
970581 tn?1248407961 You ma also want to ask this question on the Substance Abuse Forum. You will find knowledgeable members there also and they may have other suggestions or information. Please know that you are always welcome here. Best of luck to you and your Mom. She is lucky to have a son that is caring and interested in her health.

696997 tn?1232315913 If you want to come off - its got to be slow and steady with xanax. Its dangerous to just stop. Talk to your doctor about a long slow taper. Anything is possible and you can certainly come off of it if you want to, just make sure to do a proper long and slow taper. Good luck.
Avatar n tn withdrawals are always worst in our heads then they actually turn out to be....you have to get to the point of embracing them as the beginning to the end in about 4 days your no longer going to be chained to a pill bottle....there really no worst then a bad case of the flu with some added anxiety....
Avatar f tn Send a private message to "snakejones" and ask her for help, she may not see this message. Hopefully a member will be along who can help, this is why I suggested putting a really relevant subject line to your message like "Can RN have license revoked for substance treatment?" this way the nurses would quickly see your question rather than "substance abuse". Hang in there and hopefully someone will respond.
Avatar m tn but eventually you will be able to be off them...talk to your Dr, about it...good luck to you..this can be done..

Avatar f tn There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD). It is also possible for people to develop psychotic-like symptoms amidst a severe depressive episode ("psychotic depression"), as a reaction to medication, and substance abuse.
Avatar f tn s adopted by the way) and they have changed her diagnosis recently from schizoaffective disorder to borderline personality disorder....that scares me. Does this seem more like BPD? So confused! Oh, one more thing, he is now having delusions of grandeur...no doubt abou that one! He thinks a few words from him can change someone's life. Avatar f tn Hi, The Substance Abuse Addiction community is still there. When we changed the forum page, it dropped to the "S" area. I just changed it so it's back at the top of the list in "A" as Addiction: Substance Abuse so it's right next to the Social community as well. Or, you can use the related communities box on the right.
1331083 tn?1285912354 Are you referring to an addiction related to peer pressure as a "social" ? Anyway one looks at it though, addiction due to substance abuse rules the definition. Mental attachment to the substance is what ultimitely is the end result that cause's the disfunction.
1351968 tn?1278205300 Schizophrenia mainly involves the thought processes being messed up while bipolar disorder mainly involves the emotions being messed up. That's an easy way to remember it. Schizophrenia however can mimic bipolar disorder when it first affects the emotions if it even does to begin with but then generally the emotions dull out and become blunted as if it were a knife being over used that has dulled out.
Avatar f tn He has c/o forgetfulness, h/a, and had a severe manic episode with auditory hallucinations and paranoia. Could all this be related to his cyst? No family history of bipolar disorder. Also, what would treatment be? Surgery? Expected recovery time? What are chances mania will recurr?
