1546631 tn?1321643204 ll start with our story, my 8yo little boy has current diagnoses of psychotic disorder NOS, mood disorder NOS, and ADHD, combined type. We are pending diagnoses of Schizoaffective disorder, Bipolar disorder with psychosis. It's been a rough road, and still is. His meds are constantly being changed, and we just had another hospitalization. I have hope for the future, and believe we can all find support here. What is your story?
3579868 tn?1348739509 I know of four bipolar 1 with or without psychotic features, bipolar 2, bipolar nos, and cyclothimia. With bipolar 1 you get full blown mania and major depression, with bipolar 2 you get hypomania and major depression. cyclothimia fluctuates between minor depression and hypomania. Bipolar nos is where they put you when you obviously show some symptoms of bipolar disorder but they do not know which classification to put you in.
Avatar f tn Conversion disorder is a condition in which a person has blindness, paralysis, or other nervous system (neurologic) symptoms that cannot be explained. Some doctors falsely believe that conversion disorder and similar disorders are not real conditions, and may tell patients that the problem is "all in your head." However, these conditions are real. They cause distress and cannot be turned on and off at will.
1546631 tn?1321643204 My son is 8 1/2. He has multiple psych issues (psychotic disorder nos r/o schizoaffective bipolar type, mood disorder nos, r/o bipolar with psychosis; and ADHD), and has been on different meds throughout the last year, with two hospitalizations. He's been on the current ones for the past two months, with no big side effects (seroquel, latuda, Tenex, benadryl). He had something new happen today. Normally if he is sleepwalking, his eyes glaze over and I can tell he's not awake.
915369 tn?1355314810 I've been questioning my diagnosis for the past couple of months so I figured I'd ask on this forum and see what a doctor thinks about it. I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features.
Avatar n tn i was diagnosed with eating disorder NOS.. not otherwise specified. it is an actual diagnosis in the DSM. eating disorders vary in many aspects. some pple are afraid of food. some people dont like the texture. some ppl have been starved as a child and are tormented with issues regarding food. eating disorder NOS means that you meet the criteria for having an eating disorder but you do not meet the criteria for anorexia or bulimia. i had no issues with body image whatsoever.
Avatar m tn When they were telling me I had psychotic disorder NOS they had me take my antipsychotics twice a day, once when I woke up and once when I went to sleep. I think it might be just to break up the dose more evenly than just taking it once a day.
Avatar n tn Regardless if a person has thoughts or ideas that show a strong departure from reality or reality testing that is generally considered psychotic. Mania and depression are easier to explain. If a person only has psychotic thoughts during moodswings that is generally classified as bipolar with psychotic features. That is of course treatable. See a psychiatrist you trust more and ask them why they see what they are diagnosing in you and how it can be treated.
Avatar m tn If I found some medical condition with my son that there was a possibility was causing his autistic behaviours I would want 100% guarantee from his consultant that the other condition was not responsible for it. Is the only treatment plan an operation? Do these cysts go of their own accord, remain the same, or can they grow?
Avatar f tn Most SSRIs and other anti-depressants did nothing. The ones that worked made me hypomanic. So I have bipolar disorder, but NOS because it doesn't fit I or II because I don't have "normal" mood (baseline) periods. Just varying degrees of bad depression and hypomania. I have to be on a mood stabilizer (Tegretol) to prevent me from getting hypomanic, although I've gotten hypomanic while on it before. I had bad side effects from Lithium.
Avatar f tn They can be primary psychiatric diagnoses, such as schizophrenia, or they may be associated with another neurological disorder such as a movement disorder like that seen in Huntington’s disease. Furthermore, psychotic episodes may be an acute change like that seen in delirium, stroke, or seizure. Depending on the complete history, including family history, associated symptoms, and clinical examination, imaging findings will likely be in different anatomical locations.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn I agree. If he has bipolar or schizophrenia he may not be eligible for the army, and if he needs that medication for psychotic symptoms or mood stabilizing going off will be a very bad idea. What is his diagnosis? And is he eligible to join the army? I just read that disorders with psychotic features is a disqualifying disorder. Please don't think about him going off the med and not revealing his complete health information. It could be dangerous to not just him but those serving with him.
Avatar n tn I give him meds every day. He has high cholesterol also, so I am giving him meds every morning and night. I have Hashimoto's which can cause all kinds of mental problems and was wondering if maybe there is some physical reason for this. His aunt (father's sis) died of a brain tumor 4 years ago, but he says he doesn't have head aches. His mother was adopted so there is no medical history past hers.
Avatar m tn However, they are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders and particularly in schizophrenia, paraphrenia and mania in episodes of bipolar disorder.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Autistic kids will possibly have an overlapping condition of sensory integration disorder but sensory integration disorder can be a diagnosis by itself. I've been where you are at and offer you hope and encouragement. they do wonderful things to help our kids! Can't say enough about that. Read the sites that sandman listed and let me know what you think. Happy to help in any way I can.
Avatar m tn Hm, not sure if there is an actual disorder out there by psychiatrists. I guess I'd think about this. Is she psychotic where she really believes the child is hers and dangerous? OR, is she just loving the child and wishing the child was hers? Ha, this is true that I have an older sister that had kids before me. I adored her kids. I call them my first children (still do). I wanted to be with them all the time.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
Avatar m tn Last August I was diagnosed with Bipolar Spectrum Disorder, which is very close to BP NOS. I have more of the BP markers, but not as severe as BP2. I think far too many people aren't having their specialists take the time to ask many of the questions. I lived a miserable life pretty much since 25 suffereing from cyclical depression and I'm 40 now! What has changed is my meds and a diffferent way of therapy.
Avatar f tn My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Here is a great article from a well known autism web site that talks about how sensory integration disorder and autism are two separate disorders but that those with autism often have the overlapping condition of sensory. But that there are many who suffer sensory integration disorder that do not have autism. It is easy to understand and makes clear that sensory integration issues that a child or adult can't cope with is a condition on its own and does not mean they are autistic.
