915369 tn?1355314810 I've been questioning my diagnosis for the past couple of months so I figured I'd ask on this forum and see what a doctor thinks about it. I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features.
1546631 tn?1321643204 ll start with our story, my 8yo little boy has current diagnoses of psychotic disorder NOS, mood disorder NOS, and ADHD, combined type. We are pending diagnoses of Schizoaffective disorder, Bipolar disorder with psychosis. It's been a rough road, and still is. His meds are constantly being changed, and we just had another hospitalization. I have hope for the future, and believe we can all find support here. What is your story?
3579868 tn?1348739509 I know of four bipolar 1 with or without psychotic features, bipolar 2, bipolar nos, and cyclothimia. With bipolar 1 you get full blown mania and major depression, with bipolar 2 you get hypomania and major depression. cyclothimia fluctuates between minor depression and hypomania. Bipolar nos is where they put you when you obviously show some symptoms of bipolar disorder but they do not know which classification to put you in.
Avatar f tn Jaquta - Yes, I have read through the DSM-IV criteria. That's how I came up with an Anxiety disorder self diagnosis, and why I'm rejecting the Psychosis/Schizophrenia diagnosis, and rejecting the depression diagnosis. Churnman - You're right, after getting a second (different) diagnosis there sure is a heavy decision to make. Good luck in getting healthy! Mickey88 - Yes, I identify most with an Anxiety disorder.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.

Avatar f tn Actually, ILADVOCATE, Depresonalization and Derealization ARE NOT due to psychosis or a psychotic illness. They are symptoms of dissociation. Check it out in the "DSM". It clearly classifies Depersonalization and Derealization as dissociative states. I have had this illness my whole life and it causes me great fear. It is dissociation. I was misdiagnosed as being psychotic and three doctors overturned that diagnosis.
Avatar n tn i was diagnosed with eating disorder NOS.. not otherwise specified. it is an actual diagnosis in the DSM. eating disorders vary in many aspects. some pple are afraid of food. some people dont like the texture. some ppl have been starved as a child and are tormented with issues regarding food. eating disorder NOS means that you meet the criteria for having an eating disorder but you do not meet the criteria for anorexia or bulimia. i had no issues with body image whatsoever.
1546631 tn?1321643204 My son is 8 1/2. He has multiple psych issues (psychotic disorder nos r/o schizoaffective bipolar type, mood disorder nos, r/o bipolar with psychosis; and ADHD), and has been on different meds throughout the last year, with two hospitalizations. He's been on the current ones for the past two months, with no big side effects (seroquel, latuda, Tenex, benadryl). He had something new happen today. Normally if he is sleepwalking, his eyes glaze over and I can tell he's not awake.
Avatar m tn First of all, there is no clear consensus as to how many types of bipolar disorder exist. In DSM-IV-TR and ICD-10, bipolar disorder is conceptualized as a spectrum of disorders occurring on a continuum. The DSM-IV-TR lists four types of mood disorders which fit into the bipolar categories: Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymia, and Bipolar Disorder NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) like I said, so I was in fact numerating the aknowledged types only, yet articles tell you there are even more than 5.
202665 tn?1248806733 Yes schizophrenia doesnt have any mood changes but there are a whole spectrum of conditions in between such as bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective disorder which involve both psychosis and mood changes. Sometimes certain concerns such as psychosis can increase over time become more apparent or are more in need of treatment. Bipolar with psychotic features is generally defined by psychotic thoughts or auditory or other hallucinations occuring only during mood swings..
Avatar m tn When they were telling me I had psychotic disorder NOS they had me take my antipsychotics twice a day, once when I woke up and once when I went to sleep. I think it might be just to break up the dose more evenly than just taking it once a day.
709940 tn?1231900307 I would go back to your GP/Paediatrician and tell them you want referring to a multi-disciplinary team that has experience of diagnosing autism and aspergers. Have you googled DSM IV Aspergers/Autism/PDD NOS to get the clinical criteria the professionals are looking for? As you will see any child only has to get some of the behaviours in the areas mentioned. I would then begin making a daily diary of behaviours he shows that meets the criteria.
Avatar n tn The dellusion can not be cured but the occurence sure as heck can! I am Bi Polar with psychotic features and was experiencecing someithing very similar to what your son goes through but it was more a rage/angel and demons thing - SEROQUEL! Total life saver. I take it daily. The PDR and DSM IV doesn't recommend it but the FDA jsut approved it for longer use in the treatment of BiPolar Disorder for mania and depression.
915369 tn?1355314810 Of course the disorder is complicated. There is still much to learn. However, according to the DSM IV, it is pretty clear that 7 days is the cut-off. If your fiancee says they last more than a week, even if rarely, your manic symptoms bump you to bipolar disorder I. But, hey, we're not pdocs. Why aren't you asking yours? I know mine uses the DSM as a guideline and would not arbitrarily let one day of symptoms make all the difference.
408795 tn?1324935675 , a bipolar disorder) or if the depressed mood is better accounted for by schizoaffective disorder and is not superimposed on schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, delusional disorder or psychotic disorder." Avatar f tn If you click on the Health Page icon on the top right hand corner of this forum page, go into The Behavioural Charteristics behind a Diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I have posted the DSM IV Clinical Criteria and parents have posted examples of their child's behaviour that meets the criteria. This should give you some ideas of what the professionals are looking for.
5757880 tn?1395578022 The DSM-V has now converted Aspergers, PDD-NOS, and Autistic Disorder, into one diagnosis called ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder) with three levels (3-severe 2-moderate 1-mild).
Avatar f tn All psychiatrists everywhere know that medication combined with talk therapy is what works to treat schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Of course if someone is psychotic its harder for talk therapy to benefit them. Talk therapy can be beneficial for anyone though even someone without any diagnosed psychiatric disability. And you must remember there are two areas of understanding.
Avatar f tn The intrapsychic stress imposed by trying convert one's desire to throttle one's neurologist into more constructive, and legal, impulses. Often resulting in bouts of twitching, hypertension and other signs of CNS sympathetic arousal, elevated temperature, weeping, pleading, begging and in advanced stages, complete despondency. Conversion disorder is a diagnosis of exclusion; the exclusion of the offending neurologist from the consulting room often results in complete remission.
Avatar f tn There is something important about the bipolar diagnosis and the borderline personality disorder diagnosis. These are 2 separate issues. The diagnostic tool used in psychiatry, the DSM-IV or what ever number of revision it is at, is based on 5 axis system. Axis I includes acute issues like biploar disorder, major depression, generalized anxiety, substance abuse, ADHD, schizophrenia.
