Avatar f tn From around 1964 to 1969 I was put on Ritalin to control what they called a perceptual disorder/hyperactivity. I was also put on Phenobarbital for around 9 months when the Ritalin did not appear to be working. The Phenobarbital made me psychotic and prone to violent meltdowns. It was several months before anyone made the connection. I was then returned to Ritalin and remained on it until I reached puberty.
Avatar f tn There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD). It is also possible for people to develop psychotic-like symptoms amidst a severe depressive episode ("psychotic depression"), as a reaction to medication, and substance abuse.
Avatar f tn s impact on you? Or does your mother have bipolar disorder? I have recovered from schizoaffective disorder but I do have difficulties coping with my mother's bipolar disorder as she is not under treatment yet but will be. So I understand both aspects. But perhaps you could be more prescise for us as to what really went wrong.

12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar n tn Please see a neurologist and or psychiatrist for help in further finding out the root of this problem. Do you have epilepsy, or any brain disorders? This is something to look into. I really hope you can find out what is going on.
1052703 tn?1266279337 of the epilepsy all those years ago. Is there a link between my having epilepsy and my subsequent bouts of anxiety? I have had many good years without any panic attacks but have had trouble within the last six months with severe anxiety and panic. I am taking buspar 10mg three times daily and Xanax 10mg as needed within an eight hour period. Should I request an eeg from my doc just to see if there is anything abnormal? Would antiseizure medication be applicable?
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar f tn Hello again, sorry if this is a really stupid question, but what is the difference between a Seizure Disorder and Epilepsy? My neuro had diagnosed me with a seizure disorder (having daily occurences) and I just wanted to know what the difference was.. of course, I forgot to ask him at the time!
222267 tn?1253302210 But shooting down your theory just because people with bipolar can have psychotic symptoms is kind of stupid. Some people with epilepsy will experience psychotic symptoms during seizures (my girlfriend used to see and hear a man when she has seizures). On the other hand I have to disagree with the fuse thing. A lot of people, me included, experience on and off depression a long time before their first episode of mania, which is part of the illness.
Avatar n tn Yes Epilepsy is hereditary.
Avatar f tn ILADVOCATE is right about the blood work. Before I was diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, they tested me for all kinds of crap like with MRIs and tests for syphilis and blood deficiencies and such.
Avatar n tn t think you can get epilepsy from medicine, I think it is a genetic disorder but I am not 100% sure of that. However, I think on Lamictal I read seizure is one of the side effects, but not sure. If you are concerned I would ask your doctor about it since they are the only ones who can answer this for sure.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar f tn 14 years old is indeed young but it might be psychotic episodes or something somehow leading to bi-polarity as it could be and it is very likely, that is is schizo but at this age who knows if she's just shizotypal or schizoid, well you wanna know if it's a personality disorder or a psychotic disorder. In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood.
Avatar f tn So if they deem me with movement disorder, I would continue to see a movement specialist. But if they suspect frontal lobe epilepsy, it's back to the general neurologist? They put me on clonazepam, which if nothing else, ensures I get a full night's sleep. Maybe the extra sleep will be help all this anyway!!
Avatar m tn I have suffered Anxiety/Panic Disorder for just over 4 yrs now, and even though I've been reasured, I still believe there is something wrong with me. I get most physical symtoms, palps, lightheaded, dizzy, nausea, shakey, jerks, vision problems like flashing white lights, numb hands and feet, headaches, burning eyes, face twitching. I am an epileptic but my symtoms are very well controlled, Ihad 2 fits 16yrs ago and I've had nothing since.
Avatar f tn I have suffered with epilepsy for 37 years, but my friend suffers moreso when periods were due and took Clobazam (Frizium) just around that time, so it helped her seizures.
Avatar f tn What you are describing does sound like psychosis, it is a sharp break from reality but not just a change in mood or affect but in thinking but it only occurs during mood changes so that would more be bipolar with psychotic features than schizoaffective disorder. However, if it occurs most often after waking up from nightmares I might think of getting a sleep study. Maybe something occurs during sleeping or dreaming that sets this off that could be treated as well.
Avatar m tn epilepsy, psychotic problems and extreme severe depression can cause phantom scents, anxiety is a big cause, also neurological problems such as a tumour or an over active prolactin gland, maybe a cct. scan would be a good idea to rule out the latters then go down the other avenues listed if c.ct scan is clear,go to see your doctor first an foremost to discuss the possible causes..
