Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar f tn t say I know what specifically causes it in the brain (nor can ANYONE or it would be CURED), but I do know how it is classified and I also know the unfortunate kind of misdiagnosing that goes on with unskilled psychiatrists and doctors whom have never seen this illness before. Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder because reality testing is lost, however, reality testing remains during DP/DR episodes.
Avatar f tn i am taking anti-psychotic medications which seem to exacerbate my symptoms (they have neurological side effects). However, when i was a small child i had problems with pacing, sitting on the ground and pushing and rocking back and forth, and sitting on my butt and bouncing on the bed to the point that i broke beds and couches until recently. i have also had a habit of hand-clenching and have hurt my wrists several times from doing it.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Depression with psychotic features, not any Bipolar disorder Anyway I was on Prozac with Wellbutrin, then had a relapse and they took me off both and started me on Abilfy only. Is this a normal procedure or should I also be on some low dose antidepressant in your opinion ? Thank you very much for your time.
Avatar f tn I too am bipolar and on seroquel. Seroquel is an anti-psychotic. Please don't let that word "psychotic" make you upset all though I admit it does kind of stink. I also take Lamtrogine or Lamictal. I've been on tegretal and it worked for a long time for me. There are so many out there. I personally take Lamicatl Welbutrin Trazodone Seroquel These are my bipolar meds all though I do have physical health problems that I also take meds for.
Avatar f tn Could my husband have bi polar disorder. He has been diagnosed with clinical depression years ago, and just recently was given a medicine that treats the symptoms of bipolar disorder. he said the side effects were not good and he quit taking the medication. Two days ago he got angry over something trivial and again today slamming doors and yelling at me and our kids.
Avatar f tn ILADVOCATE is right about the blood work. Before I was diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, they tested me for all kinds of crap like with MRIs and tests for syphilis and blood deficiencies and such.
Avatar m tn Hi Tammy, seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic and is often prescribed for bipolar disorder to address psychotic symptoms and for it's mood stabilising properties mainly antimanic, although it also has some anti-depressant effects. It is also prescribed for other things such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, GAD or severe insomnia (because of the sedation, and in smaller doses). It can be sedating at first, but usually this lessens as you get use to it.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out. Thanks for your help.
1052851 tn?1307741160 And I will add that schizoaffective disorder is schizophrenia with a mood disorder which in my case is bipolar. In schizoaffective disorder a person experiences psychosis all the time whereas in bipolar with psychotic features it is only during moodswings. You could ask your psychiatrist more about it and we have some websites linked up for information. One that's not linked up that you could find some clinically accurate information on in addition to Medhelp is Schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn I discontinued risperidon two months ago. I have not had any psychotic symptoms. I believe my schizoaffective disorder is in remission. However can risperidon continue to have an effect two months after taking it? Anybody know? I took it for 4 years.
Avatar m tn schizophrenoform disorder, r/o psychotic disorder NOS, r/o MDD chronic with psychotic features, r/o alcohol abuse, partner relation problem Axis 2: no diagnosis with paranoid traits Axis 3 deferred Several months after discharge diagnosis (not by doctor who gave second opinion) amended to Axsis 1: MDD, in remission, r/o depression due to general medical condition (vestibular injury), adjustment disorder with depression/anxiety, partner relation problems, alcohol abuse.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I have been experiencing worsening Tardive Dyskinesia from many years of antipsychotics. I have chewing and other mouth motions, plus torso rocking, sometimes grimacing, and it hurts my mouth; it seems to be getting worse and worse lately. It's worse when I'm tired or stressed.
Avatar n tn Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic. Otherwise there are a wide variety of mood stabilizers although only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics.
Avatar f tn I would get off the Latuda. Like I said, I have Bipolar (NOS) - depression with hypomania without "normal" periods (before I got on the Lamital anyway). Only been on that for a few months. I do not expect a relapse, but anything could happen. I'm on max doses of Wellbutrin and Lexapro, I believe. 800 mg Tegretol. Without that, I have a greater chance of getting hypomanic, although before the Lamictal was added, I had been depressed for years without relief.
Avatar f tn However, with both you would be prescribed an anti-psychotic. The one least likely to create the long term side effects of diabetes and tardive dyskinesia is Abilify. As for the treatment I am on glycine, in official studies its used as an adjunct (additional) antipsychotic but I am the first person to recover with it out of study as a primary (stand alone) antipsychotic. My psychopharmocologist will be publishing the document where it can be easily accessed in PubMd according to him.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar n tn This is not ordinarily the first drug a doctor will try for psychotic problems. I, too have bad memory, and I know it is from these drugs, after having been on them plenty long enough. I have developed a habit of writing EVERYTHING down, no matter how insignificant, so I never have to worry about not remembering something. Personally, I would rather write stuff down than not take the meds and be miserable every day. NOTE: NEVER DISCONTINUE ANY DRUG WITHOUT YOUR DOCTOR'S SUPERVISION!!
