Avatar f tn Conversion disorder is a condition in which a person has blindness, paralysis, or other nervous system (neurologic) symptoms that cannot be explained. Some doctors falsely believe that conversion disorder and similar disorders are not real conditions, and may tell patients that the problem is "all in your head." However, these conditions are real. They cause distress and cannot be turned on and off at will.
Avatar f tn They can be primary psychiatric diagnoses, such as schizophrenia, or they may be associated with another neurological disorder such as a movement disorder like that seen in Huntington’s disease. Furthermore, psychotic episodes may be an acute change like that seen in delirium, stroke, or seizure. Depending on the complete history, including family history, associated symptoms, and clinical examination, imaging findings will likely be in different anatomical locations.
Avatar n tn what is "A" Polar. Possibly I sisunderstood the term. Is there something called "A Bi-Polar"? It's supposed to mean ;never down, aways up...instead of "Bi-Polar"; severe up and down or high and low moods. I'd really like to know if this is a real diagnosis of a disorder or a doctor is not telling me the whole story. I do have a geat way of not letting things get me down.
Avatar m tn A delusion is commonly defined as a fixed false belief and is used in everyday language to describe a belief that is either false, fanciful or derived from deception. In psychiatry, the definition is necessarily more precise and implies that the belief is pathological (the result of an illness or illness process).

Avatar m tn Hm, not sure if there is an actual disorder out there by psychiatrists. I guess I'd think about this. Is she psychotic where she really believes the child is hers and dangerous? OR, is she just loving the child and wishing the child was hers? Ha, this is true that I have an older sister that had kids before me. I adored her kids. I call them my first children (still do). I wanted to be with them all the time.
Avatar f tn I just started back on Abilify and ambien (temporarily for sleep) after being off meds for 10 days. I am taking 10mg which is an increase from the 5mg that i was on. I was experiencing psychosis, paranoia, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. I'm not sure how my mood was at the time. When i went to my psychiatrist he mentioned Schizoaffective disorder but did not diagnose me with it.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar f tn In general an episode is seen as a kind of explosion of feelings and thoughts that are tied to real life problems that have been suppressed or avoided. The tendency to this kind of episode is based on some combination of genetic and environmental factors. An episode may be a single episode and not require anything after it is completed, or part of another complex that does need to be treated.
Avatar f tn Both Lamictal and Topomax are mood stablizers, usually used in the treatment of bipolar disorder and finally, Klonopin is a benzodiazepine, usually used to treat anxiety and panic attacks. After six years of being diagnoised with bipolar I disorder, SAD, GAD, panic attacks and PTSD, I realized that it was a long and tedious process to find the right combination of medications to stabilize my conditions.
Avatar f tn If someone has a headache and an arachnoid cyst, just given the statistical probabilities, they are more likely to have a headache unrelated to the cyst than to have headaches caused by the cyst. Similarly, in a patient with bipolar disorder and an arachnoid cyst, the likelihood is that the cyst is NOT causing the psychiatric disorder. Having said this, it depends on several factors, including the location and size of the cyst, and more importantly its effect on surrounding brain structures.
Avatar n tn Regardless if a person has thoughts or ideas that show a strong departure from reality or reality testing that is generally considered psychotic. Mania and depression are easier to explain. If a person only has psychotic thoughts during moodswings that is generally classified as bipolar with psychotic features. That is of course treatable. See a psychiatrist you trust more and ask them why they see what they are diagnosing in you and how it can be treated.
Avatar f tn I suffer from sever GAD, I fear taking any sort of medications no matter how sever my medical condition is. I freak out from general anasethia. I fear of staying alone unaccompanied by any person. I fear driving not because I fear of loosing control over the car, but because I have this feeling that I will NEVER reach my final destination. I feel that this is the wrong road despite I used this road 1000 of times. I fear of flying.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
1039200 tn?1314912008 m not sure what to think. A medication issue? Forgetfulness due to seizure activity? Lack of concentration due to mood issues? ADHD?? I would try your own doctor. Wait for a response from this forum expert and maybe even try the undiagnosed symptoms community forum (people there offer lots of misc. advice re: symptoms). Good luck!

Avatar n tn t stop or start taking any medication without first talking to your medical provider. Some meds require a taper to stop and that needs to be medically supervised. Some medications are absolutely necessary for people. It is a personal decision people make with their medical providers, and we support those decisions.
Avatar n tn I would make sure it was not neurological in origin as well because psychosis and dementia can occur in elderly people from conditions that are not psychiatric. "Impaired executive functioning" sounds more neurological in origin to me.
Avatar m tn I am baffled as to how your son thinks he is going to get into the army - he will need to pass a full medical and they are going pick it up - god hopes they do because I personally would not want to be within a mile of a psychotic manic soldier with an automatic rifle.
Avatar f tn You are not crazy even though OCD behavior itself in not rational. We have a tendency to become obsessive about a variety of things and we are compeled to act in a way that is not productive. You will learn to live with it. Try to catch yourself when you are compelled to commit an irrational behavior due to an obsession. Better than medicine, if I had to do it over again, I would seek the help of a behavioral psychologist.
Avatar n tn Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic. Otherwise there are a wide variety of mood stabilizers although only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics.
Avatar m tn The general medical consensus seems to be that it is a self-limiting condition most often occurring after vigorous sexual activity, which almost always heals itself with time: by far, the most frequent advice I have read is for one to abstain from sexual activity to allow for healing.
