Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
728480 tn?1312059930 Could a personality disorder answer many queries about someones mental state saying the personality covers everything ? etc depressed (someones experiences repressed in memory) seeing things (imagination developed through isolation) not connecting with others (personality non human compatable) ?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
Avatar f tn This does not mean that all Bipolar I patients have psychotic episodes and that a Bipolar II personality cannot have a psychcotic episode. There are too many factors involved to accurately determine who will and will not have an episode. I'm diagnosised as Bipolar I with psychotic features but I'm not in a constant state of psychosis. Actually, most of the time I am not.
Avatar n tn I strongly recommend that you try not to get lost in the jungle of the jargon of our profession. the person you described had a paranoid psychotic episode, and is now in remission, with a paranoid personality. You don't have to invoke the schizophrenic idea to fit the facts of this case.....
Avatar m tn ever since I had my psychotic episode my personality has changed. I used to be bubbly and outgoing and now im always depressed and never interact with others. Will my old personality ever come back?
Avatar m tn schizophrenoform disorder, r/o psychotic disorder NOS, r/o MDD chronic with psychotic features, r/o alcohol abuse, partner relation problem Axis 2: no diagnosis with paranoid traits Axis 3 deferred Several months after discharge diagnosis (not by doctor who gave second opinion) amended to Axsis 1: MDD, in remission, r/o depression due to general medical condition (vestibular injury), adjustment disorder with depression/anxiety, partner relation problems, alcohol abuse.
Avatar f tn 14 years old is indeed young but it might be psychotic episodes or something somehow leading to bi-polarity as it could be and it is very likely, that is is schizo but at this age who knows if she's just shizotypal or schizoid, well you wanna know if it's a personality disorder or a psychotic disorder. In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood.
Avatar n tn Can depression change someone's personality? I can't recognise my mother and I don't know what to do and how to take it. She is now 63 years old and she was diagnosed with a depression about to 10 years ago. She was extremly down at the time, used to cry a lot and it was clear that hse was very unhappy wiith her life. She started on a medication and things were more or less stable till 5 years ago when her own mother died.
Avatar n tn I am posting this in the Eating Disorders forum, mainly because it has to do with vomiting. But my main condition is a personality disorder diagnosed in March 2013. After 3 weeks in a mental health hospital, period in which, without being checked or asked about how I am coping, they upped the anti-psychotic to a schizophrenia dosage. The doctor wrote me the diagnosis of schizotypal personality disorder and sent me home to continue to take Solian(Amisulpride)600mg in two dosages.
Avatar f tn I have a sister who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, another who is hypochondriac who has hidden her diagnosis from everyone but I know for a fact that she is both paranoid delusional and psychotic, a son who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, an aunt who has some kind of mental disorder and takes the same meds as the first three ... Olanzapine. My grandmother died of encephalitus of the brain. My father suffered from depression.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar f tn The reality is most of this behaviour does not on the face of it sound bipolar - it does sound like a personality disorder or sociopathic personality. Marijuana use long term can cause mental illness and latent mental illnesses such as schzophrenia to come out - its a dangerous drug despite the efforts of many to promote it as a toy.
Avatar n tn Yes from what you describe he probably does have ocd but compulsive lying to the point where a person believes it themselves is much more than that. It can be part of a personality disorder and is potentially psychotic. Someone can have ocd as well. If he has a family history of depression and bipolar he could have that. Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis.
Avatar m tn ve been diagnosed with -social personality disorder, -Paranoid anxiety disorder, - bipolar. Im always depressed or agressive. Im on meds, zolaf, risperdol, valproic acid, and ativans?
Avatar m tn It triggered severe confusion, very poor memory, difficulty concentrating, change in personality, and also it made me unable to sleep, It also triggered mood changes. I wanted to ask my doctor this but i wont be seeing her for a while so I decided to ask here before I ask my doctor. Also whats weird is that I've been having this for 2 years now, and while i am severely confused I'm not to the point that I would talk to a tree, also I've been off stelazine.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
784558 tn?1276007829 What's the difference?I've been diagnosed as Major Aggitated/Depressive. I do seem to have manic phases to my personality, but never been told I'm Bipolar. I'm pleased not to have anything more than I've currently got in way of meds. Coping well at present & think I'm learning to control my moods better. Several breakdowns/hospital stays & different drugs have not 'cured' me.
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
Avatar f tn The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Office of Diversion Control lists kratom as a "Drug and Chemical of Concern" and says there's no legitimate medical use for kratom in the United States.
899491 tn?1243773627 My behavior was odd and people were treating me kind of weird. I guess I was acting psychotic and started to have suspicions about people. I hate gossipers. They're not your friends. One time I put out a "decoy of information about myself" to only that person and she blabbed it to other co-workers. Since she was not concerned about my feelings; I dumped her as a friend. I guess I have this trust thing. People should accept you during bad times and good without the gossip.
