1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar f tn Well I heard classically this happens in schizophrenia but I think it also can happen in bipolar disorder where you stay in a deteriorated state as mentioned although a doctor mentioned that people with psychosis in other mental disorders generally recover back to baseline classically after the psychotic break is over. I guess it all depends on the severity of the psychotic break and other such factors.
1256303 tn?1291752568 I do know that for schizoaffective disorder delusions and psychosis occur at all times whereas in bipolar with psychotic features they occur only during moodswings. You can speak to your psychiatrist about this but also keep a mood tracker and print out the results for your psychiatrist as that can be markedly helpful as well.
12268405 tn?1427853361 That is not unheard of. Hallucinations can happen in other conditions besides schizophrenia. I also had paranoia. It can happen with depression, especially when you aren't sleepig very much. I have had psychotic breaks with the depression cycle of my bipolar disorder. However, I do know people with major depression and situational depression who had episodes of visual hallucination. The hallucinations were short lived as well as their depression, meaning it only lasted for a year or 2.
202665 tn?1248806733 Yes, bipolar can gradually turn into schizophrenia. The people saying this is not possible are wrong. I used to be primarily bipolar and had manic and depressive mood swings. Now (after about 6 years being primarily bipolar) I experience little to no mood swings, but hear voices daily and take high doses of niacin and antipsychotic to control schizophrenic symptoms. I have been primarily schizophrenic (though not "paranoid" schizophrenia) for about 3 years now.
Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar n tn Yes this is an anti-psychotic, i take it in very low doses for my anxiety which is severe as an when i need it, in larger doses and taken everyday it's used for bi-polar and other ilnesses such as schizophrenia. How are you finding it?
Avatar n tn If so, he could be going through severe withdrawal and suffering a psychotic break from it. It might be worth mentioning to the docs at the facility, just so that they're aware of the possibility.
728313 tn?1260459629 My daughter was diagnosed with MS in 2009 @ 33 years old and also was displaying psychotic symptoms. She is now in a wheelchair taking a MS med and psychotic med. If you are for real please respond back.
Avatar f tn It can also be a part of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, shared psychotic disorder, brief psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, substance-induced psychotic disorder. Hence it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have been treated for psychotic depression. My Dad has schizophrenia. You sound like me before I got treatment. It is just a severe form of depression. if you had schizophrenia and were not on medication, you wouldn't have been able to write that post so it is not schizophrenia. But very treatable, so get help and do not suffer on as it will hardly get better on its own.
Avatar n tn I strongly recommend that you try not to get lost in the jungle of the jargon of our profession. the person you described had a paranoid psychotic episode, and is now in remission, with a paranoid personality. You don't have to invoke the schizophrenic idea to fit the facts of this case.....
774805 tn?1235948571 what is the rang between bipolarism and schizophrenia. Usually bipolarism 15 and schizophrenia is 45mg.
Avatar m tn It kind of confuses me especially now that you say that because I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the end. At one point they had me taking the entire highest recommended daily dose of Geodon all at once and I hear you're only supposed to take the highest recommended daily dose in two doses and not one.
Avatar m tn intentions, then I understood it wasnt and I only suffered from social phobia.. And paranoia is genetic and a psychosis.. In my family we dont have any case of schizophrenia nor paranoia.. Now during the CBT I understood that my fear of unexplained thoughts and schizophrenia is due to movies I watched Horror movies mostly.. Now I tend to really analyze alot for instance I tend to say what if Im in my first episodes of developing anything?
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar m tn ve had a constant dull pain in my head in addition to frequent and consistent migraines (classic without aura) my entire life (including childhood). I also hallucinate frequently (not due to a psychotic break or Schizophrenia etc according to a variety of psychiatrists).
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
1138687 tn?1548643978 t do anything about it and I feel like it really ruined me after I had my first full psychotic break. I think I'm also frustrated and angry because a lot of people have no comprehension of what my illness is like at all, nor do they even want to begin to understand, and I feel somewhat isolated and alone in my suffering. Although most of these people have no understanding of mental illness at all and go off of stereotypical ideas and beliefs on mental illness.
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
987762 tn?1671273328 d been involuntarily admitted to a state hospital for treatment in his mid teens, he told me he wanted to get away from his controlling mother and faked a break down. He also said the experience was great because he enjoys playing mind games with psychs, he had them all fooled and when he'd had enough he just said what they needed to hear so he could get out etc.
Avatar f tn I can certainly understand your fear, being that mental illnesses have a genetic component to them. First of all...let me try to reassure you...anxiety disorders and schizophrenia are two totally different conditions, with unique diagnostic criteria. I believe that you are experiencing "intrusive thoughts" as a result of your anxiety disorder. That is a fairly common component of an AD. Also...you seem to also have some obsessive thoughts going on as well....
